6 brave souls raced out to beat the rain and play a very wet first few holes but 18 holes were played in a muggy 70 degree night with humidity at 75% we felt it.  Slight winds from the south~8MPH saw Derrick Holt shooting a -3, 53 on the night taking home $8, and JT shooting -1, 55 taking home $4, with Jack shooting a 57, and Zeke shooting a 58 to finish out the pro field on the night.  Bill Shinoski shot a 59 to win $7 in KC Kash and Steve Meyer shot a 65 to complete the am side of the league night.

There will be no league next week at the NE due to the holiday, but I believe that tradition has it out at Olathe.

Will return on June 6th at Blue Valley with the ace fund now sitting at $585

Ratings and results so far can be seen here:

Cliff Drive PDGA League--Ace Fund @$579

If it's raining when we get out there then we may not play, but if it's not, this is what I am thinking the format will look like.

Altered format to stay out of the woods..... Will play like this....
1-Start-hole #7
2-Hole #8 to hangar
3-Hole #8 to trees
4-hole #9
5-hole #10
6-Tee from road to alt/practice long 18
7-Short#11
8-Long #11
9-#12
10-#13
11-#14
12-#15
13-#16
14-from #17 pad to top of hill #18
15-#17
16-#18 by road
17-#1 to practice basket
18-#1 from the road

All cards would start on #7 or #8 and rotate through the three holes there, with short #8 teeing off first and then going to #7 then playing #8 long, this will be ok if we have 12 or less people, if we go to 16 people then we will have 2 cards start on #7.

UNcertain about league.  I will go out there and see what the first 4 holes look like around 5:30.

I will be needing someone to complete league though if it were to happen as we have a BOD meeting at 6:30.

Something like a hospitality manager sounds about right.  I just think if there was a focal point where someone could refer to, from a distance and not having to go to say swope and ask, and get a fairly quick response.  So say I end up with a with 3 hours on Saturday out of the blue I can hop online and find out what is needed.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.....You are thinking even beyond that, but more like a portal that gets updated electronically, I see now what you mean.  I also can see the added benefit of that information as well....good thought most certainly.  So as I am sitting there at Swope wondering how to go get water bottles or food, I type it and see if someone can do it, or refer them to the person you are talking about and they being able to reference someone....

I think that something along those lines could work, but it would be getting people thinking about spectating to think of looking there first.  I like the notion and the idea though.

I think the one thing missing and I believe would help with volunteers is communication during the tournament.  I know you guys are busy, but to have a method to communicate needs during the rounds may help.  Perhaps it would be helpful for those that have time at the last minute.

Can you elaborate on this?  I am curious what you mean.  The one thing that Tee times does, and part of the problem in my own eyes, is extend the day drastically for staff.  We start at 6:30-7:00 and go until 6 or so.  With ShotGuns, you typically have some time between rounds, or when people are on the course no one is coming in, with Tee Times, people are leaving or going almost, you know every 8-10 minutes.  So I am wondering the thought pattern on this for the comment.

The one thing that Scott mentioned that makes sense is to have a Hospitality Manager for the Staff, ensuring food and their needs is met.  This could be a better system to make sure that nothing slipped through the cracks (like me forgetting Kevin's food on Saturday), but with multiple courses, this person would more than likely need to assign 2-3 people as well to help solely with this, which again becomes a #'s of volunteers game, is that what you were leaning towards?

I always like to hear what people liked and hated....

For me.....

Need more spotters/helpers.  This is about #1 on the list.  For an event to have as many people as we do, our local support isn't as strong as it could/should be.  The people that did help in almost every instance are EXTREMELY GREAT, translation, those that help seem to get better every year, but we still need more #'s.  I honestly believe that we have some of the best help imaginable, but it is quite simply to thin.  We must have more volunteers to make this event run better.  I know that this is a HOT issue with Scott and Dick as well, and they have some ideas on what to do to help with raising this, but this was about the #1 thing that I felt we needed more of.

Better distribution of prizes/checks.  This one is SOLELY on my shoulders.  I dropped the ball and I should have been more prepared for it.  I know that Tammie, Kelly and Nate did a great job with it, but I didn't prepare them for success, and I realized that this morning how simple I should have made it for them.  This I will be able to be better prepped for next year in most scenarios.  The problem is always waiting until that last putt goes in......afterall who would think that someone from the leader card would finish 22?

Stronger and better contingent plans for the awards.  The rain killed a lot of what we wanted to have happen, and the backup plan wasn't available.  But I believe thanks to a few ideas we had that we can moving forward ensure even in inclement weather a good plan to help finish that off.

Host hotel wasnt up to the expectations of our needs, and we will be exploring more options for the future of that decision.

The +....
Courses were in pretty darn great shape, except possibly WW.  I say except WW, because it didn't get the attention it needs, and also I believe that personally we have just lost so many trees out there that it doesn't represent to me what WW should be like.  This sort of ties in to volunteerism and the advantages of the courses getting all pretty for the Wide Open so we can enjoy it afterwards.

The Performance Flight and players packs and Trophies.  Those compliment the event, and I think that Dick and Scott did a FANTASTIC job of looking out for each player.  I am confident that each package they created, they took great care in...(except John Chapman....someone took Chapman's package at the opening night ceremonies...I am hopeful it shows up)

Our staff and our volunteers leading up to and continuing through the weekend.  We have GREAT people, we just need more....we have some of the best volunteers in the world, and the world comes to see us because of that.  We are blessed locally.

The hospitality of the non playing folks.  You know the names and the people, and it is part of the charm of playing in KC that brings people here.  We have a great community of disc golfers and this is your family, our family, my family.  We get mad at each other, we want to yell and shout, but ultimately we all agree when times are needed to help most of us do what we can (we again just need more on the courses to help)

Caddy Book the attention to detail needed by Swope Gold was spot on.  It helps having the book out in advance so that we can do the courses EXACTLY like the book.

Opening night seemed to be a good hit with many, and I really enjoyed not having to think about anything else during the week.  This lines up nicely with tee time starts for folks...yes it makes for a MUCH longer day with the staff, but it also is slightly easier to move through people and not get slammed....

Some ~
Jack missing deadline on the grant money hurt (I forgot to submit one form and lost a grant that I work hard to get every year...aggravating is an understated word for me on this topic)

More volunteers....just HAVE to figure out how to spread the workload to others, it is to me the #1 problem we had....

Again I am looking for feedback positive, negative, or curiosity from the event, either as a player, a volunteer, a staff member, spectator, or watching online what you feel was done right, wrong, or why did we do it that way.  I appreciate everyone's opinion even if I don't agree with it.....those I don't agree with I may think harder about..... :-)
