Swope / Swope Dog Park
« on: April 02, 2008, 02:28:50 PM »
I heard a rumor about talk of a dog Park, and asked the Manager of the region for Swope if that is happening.

Response is as follows:

If the Dog Park Task Force considers Swope Park for a dog park, we would work
with them to identify a viable location. One location that has only briefly been
discussed is where the old gravel lot is north of the Maintenance Compound - at
the north end of Elmwood. Another possible location could be at 69th and
Cleveland. No real decisions. NO current programmed areas would ever be
displaced for a fenced off-leash area, if you are worried about the Disc Golf
Course!!!

The Disc Golf Course is not in jeopardy. We all see it as an incredible
asset in Swope Park.

Rosedale, #16&#17 come to mind, as does Pleasant Hill and the yard that states don't get your disc......this is all to common, and it comes from the actions of a few.  Please leave your favorite piece of plastic in the yard, and either go knock on the door after the round, or buy a replacement......hence why you should always carry 2 of your favorite discs.....

Club Archives / Committees Started
« on: March 19, 2008, 09:37:54 AM »
Thanks for  all of those in attendance last night.  One of the hot priorities is to start to form committees to help with the overall  components of the event.  I am going to start this thread here, and those people on the committees will also join the worlds discussion group that we will be starting.

As of today this is what we are looking at for the Committees so far:

Public Relations/Volunteers-Open

Sponsorship-Jack Lowe

Competition/Courses-John Chapman

Hospitality/Entertainment-Becky Stebbins

Medical-Vicki Keck

Communication/Media/Print-Open

Juniors/Bussing-Open

Merchandise/Art-Rick Rothstein

Webthings-Chris Timko

THe open slots are available to those people that we feel would do the job well.  If you feel as though one of these fields align with what you would like to do to help, I encourage you to get a hold of the person leading the charge.

We will be meeting at River Market on Monday April 21 @ 7:30 PM, and again on Monday May 19th @ 7:30.  Meetings are not to last longer than an hour if at all possible!!

Thanks,

Jack

Club Archives / Meeting 3/18 @ River Market Brewery
« on: March 07, 2008, 12:52:16 PM »
That's right, meeting at River Market Brewery on Tuesday March 18th at 8:00 pm.

This will be a meeting to start out with the planning of all World's related tasks.

We need to have over 100 volunteers, and will need them at all times, so if you can only manage to help for 4 hours during the event, guess what....you can be part of the "World's Staff"  that will also allow you to be a big shot in your neighborhood!  What else can you need?

I will be working on an Agenda, but we will limit these meetings to 1 hour initially.

River Market is located in the River Market area of Kansas City (North of Downtown, South of the River), at 5th and Walnut.

Please pass along this information to those that you feel appropriate.

Thanks,

Jack

Club Archives / Host Hotel
« on: February 26, 2008, 04:41:15 PM »
Westin Crown Center will be the Host hotel for the 2009 Pro/Am Worlds.

www.crowncenter.com

Located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, Crown Center is often called a city within a city. Three levels of great shopping and dining compliment two of the city’s most luxurious hotels, exquisite office buildings, a residential community and several entertainment attractions. It all surrounds the worldwide headquarters of Hallmark Cards, Inc. Bring your family and your imagination for an unforgettable visit to Crown Center.

You will need to ask for the Disc Golf Rate (Kansas City Flying Disc Club or Disc Golf World Championships should suffice), the dates that we have blocked for the Hotel are from Sunday July 26 to Sunday August 02, 2009.

The Host hotel will have the following plus many more items of fun and entertainment as we get it all together:

Check In and registration

Players Meeting

Fly Mart

Tournament Central

PDGA (Banquet?) Awards

It is an awesome property, there is a mall connected, there is the museum across the street, and many other amenities.  Ask for the Disc Golf Rate during this time, I believe that you will all enjoy a high class of standard that will truly create an experience of WOW!

The room rate is $134 night for single or doubles, and suites are $350 and up.  The normal room rate right now for the property is $289/night, you will not be dissapointed.

Sign up now, and do not miss the chance to be a part of the best worlds ever.

More information will be provided as we move forward, I just wanted to get this information out for those that have asked.  Yes I have received about 10 calls already asking me about this information.

Dates are set, hotel is set.

PDGA Online Tournament
Registration

By: Jason Allind , TD IDGC Monthly

The PDGA is now offering
online tournament registration services free of charge to all tournament
directors in 2008! PDGA Signup www.pdgasignup.com
[http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001ldRpxlODNmz5CR24C-wbxw9xFHKtZVZbmAU8U7BsR1QJsGi5VNsE

is designed to
alleviate the hassles of the old stamp and envelope days and make it more
convenient for players to register for PDGA sanctioned events. I am using the
service
for the IDGC monthly
series here at the International
Disc Golf
Center, and it has proved
to be a great resource, not only for the players but also for myself as a TD. On
 the 2008 tournament sanctioning agreement,
TD's are given the option of signing up for this service. A great perk is that
the service also includes a free web space to advertise your event at
www.discgolfseries.com
pGW0c-q1uXlsEaaIbgjIThA3dFFMycQNrmr7IeUG0RskB6HfuT_IRq3vHxQ0K_lpY4BhKXEcgivP].
This is a
great amenity for smaller clubs and tournaments, who do not have or cannot
afford their own website. The TD is able to easily post text and stats on the
website without having to know HTML, and it integrates very well with the
registration page. You are even able to
post your tournament flyer, just like a virtual course message board. One thing
that I found difficult when running
events was receiving 75 checks in the mail, now the TD can set up the date to
close the online registration, and will receive one payment in time for the
event. Check out the new service by
clicking on the links above and consider offering online registration for your
event.

General Banter / New Officers for the Club
« on: January 30, 2008, 09:55:56 AM »
I am sure that our incoming President will chime in here, but I wanted to thank everyone that came out last night to voice opinions and show support for the KCFDC.  I wanted to get a list of the new officers, and we will update the pages over the next few weeks to reflect these changes.

Thanks to all of you for allowing me the honor of being President since 2001.

Here is your new 2008 EC Board

President-Rick Rothstein (2 Year term)

VP of MO-Jack Lowe (2 Year term)

VP of KS-Tom Butler (Interim term 1 year)

Secretary-Chris Timko (Interim term 1 yr)

Treasurer-John Chapman (2yrs)

Sgt @ Arms-Tavish Sanders (1 yr remaining)

Course Coordinators(1 yr positions)

Swope-Matt Hays

Rosedale Up top-Dennis Freeman

Rosedale Down Under-Jay Rivard

Olathe-Bob Hyatt

Water Works-Bill Neenan

WyCo-Tracy Walker

Cliff Drive-Mike Penney

Blue Valley-Mark Morales

Yates Elementary-John Theiss

Pleasant Hill-Dan Coffman

Shawnee Mission Park-Dirk Hacker

Now we have 17 people total on the EC board.  This club is growing, and we need more people to help out.  When we had 5 courses, back in 2000 it was a little easier, now that we have 11, and plans for 3-4 more over the next year, we need more support, locally at each course.  Take pride and ownership for your course.  You make the difference, and we all need to make the difference when it comes to our courses.  Teach someone how important it is to spend even 1 hour a month at the course to help its beauty.  We are the people that can make the difference, each one of us owe that to our sport.

Thanks again , and I look forward to continuing to make KC the best place in america to play disc golf!!

Jack

General Banter / EC Agenda 1/10/08
« on: January 09, 2008, 04:08:00 PM »
All are encouraged to attend, we will be meeting at TMS 701 SW Blvd KCK.  I would encourage all those that want to run for a position to be in attendance, at this point, I would say that we will probably be having the elections after the Ice Bowl, where we can let the other 260+ people that should be playing know about the event as well.  If you have any questions, please call me.

Thanks,

Jack

KCFDC E/C Meeting 1/10/2008

6:30-Call to order
6:32-See if we have Meeting Minutes from September Meeting (No Quorum)
6:35- Election location ideas, date  before or after Ice Bowl? , nominations to date

(Shiners lodge-$130, +$50 for a bartender)

(Possible Westin for free)
6:55- Ice Bowl-Rick, have New Belgium on board, where we need other help with, Chili, power, more foods….
7:10-’09 Worlds-Jack-Hotel, is $129-$139 @ Westin too much for our players to pay, does it make more sense to have the event in OP for $109 instead, and should we push downtown with all new amenities towards our players, I think we should, what do others think?  Courses need to get list of what every CC wants done to make their course an A++ ready place to play.

7:25 Newsletter Information-Rick What do we want, and how to get it all online, and available for print to those that need it?  Do we send only the online note with a link and basic advertisement on postcards, or do we continue to make an actual dead tree version?

7:35- Upcoming events, lets plan out the entire year, or at least through the Summer, how many KCFDC events need to be PDGA with the Worlds fast approaching, many events will fill at max levels with the interest.

7:45-Wide Open-Dan, last year for Team Cashen, who will step and take over as the running man for this event, last year for NT probably as well, next year A or B tier to defray from Worlds activity, possibly April or Early May time frame….Where are we at for 2008 KCWO

7:55-Open Discussion

General Banter / Call for you to HELP-Do you want to make a difference?
« on: October 17, 2007, 10:11:27 AM »
It is that time again for the fall elections.  I would like to know if you are interested in making a difference in the way that disc golf is formulated around Kansas City.

The positions that are up for election are as follows:

President

Vice President of MO

Treasurer

Secretary (Former resigned)

All Course Coordinators:
Swope
Rosedale
Olathe
Down Under
Water Works
WyCo
Cliff Drive
Blue Valley
Shawnee Mission Park

In addition to these offices, we would also like to start to work with people that want to help with the 2009 Pro/Am Worlds and start to set up committees to make this event run smooth.  The Committees will vary, and will want to use your expertise in many areas to help us out.  The location for the meeting is to be determined, but with the by-laws, we need to have 30 days notice.  We are looking at the 13-15th of November to make this happen.  The Club Championships will be November 3-4

If you are interested in this position please contact Tavish Sanders our Sgt/Arms (913) 449-8381 or Dirk Hacker Vp of KS (816) 678-4468.

Here are the by-laws for the election process.

6. Nomination and elections of EC members. An election committee, consisting of two members of the EC who are not up for re-election, shall ensure that the elections are held according to the bylaws, including ensuring that the nominated members are active and are willing to accept their nominations. A call of nominations will be announced to all active (dues-paid) members via postal mail and/or email notification 30 days before the fall general membership meeting. An active member may nominate any other active member, including him or herself. The election committee shall announce the nominees for each office, and then ask for further nominations from the floor. Nominees from the floor must be present and agree to run before their nominations are accepted. All nominees (or their proxies) will have the opportunity to speak to the membership and answer questions. Ballots will be distributed as needed. All ballots will be collected and counted by the Election Committee, who will announce the winner before moving to the next officer to be elected. Each office will be voted on separately in this order: President, VP of MO, Treasurer, and the CCs in alphabetical order or VP of KS, Secretary, Sgt-At-Arms, and the CCs in alphabetical order. All at-large officers will serve two-year terms, with the President, VP of MO, and the Treasurer elected in odd-numbered years, and VP of KS, Secretary, and Sergeant-at-Arms elected in even-numbered years. Course Coordinators will serve one-year terms. Newly elected officers will assume office at the first Executive Committee meeting following their elections.

I would encourage you to use this forum to post why you feel qualified to handle the role you are requesting, and will create another forum to discuss the candidates.
