1st 7 spots on Team West have filled(due to a tie for 6th spot, if all the players that qualified can play on June 6-7 and want to be a part of the team.

In the past, I think some captains have passed down the spots to the next best scores, if a qualified person could not play or elected not to.  I will not be doing that.  If any of these 7 qualifiers chooses to pass on the spot, I will then add an extra spot to the last chance qualifier.

So here they are, based on lowest scores from Rosedale Cup.

Arturo Villarreal - 98  (Congratulations on his Cup Win!! Taking it in a 4-way playoff!!)
Heberto Villarreal - 100  (Congratulations on his Master's Cup Win!!)
Cooper Arnold - 100  (Your Wyco champion by 5 strokes this weekend!!)
Justin Starks - 102  (Your Rosedale Cup Advanced Champion!!)
Isaac Heinen - 103
Joe Hesting - 104
Kelly Babbit - 104

I will get a date up soon for the next qualifier.

I would love for there to be a disc golf course there! Super close to where I live. I don't think I'll be able to attend the meetings however.  Is there any other way for me to show my support?

Hmmm, I am sort of on the fence about this.  From the event organizing side, I want the starting hole to be near parking, facilities (if available) and such.  Most courses have a few places that would fit fine.  I just don't want to have everyone wandering off to say, hole #5 at Cliff Drive as the starting hole. On the other hand, I continue to want to give Captains flexibility.  That actually outweighs my event organizer preference.  If Steve and Joe agree that captains should be allowed to designate "Hole 1,"  I'll amend the rule, as such. With an unofficial caveat that when doing so the captain considers convenience and location relative to facilities when making their "Hole 1" choice.

Agreed, I would not want to start at an inconvenient location...but we have a lot of courses that offer up several starting holes close to the main parking area.

I actually agree with joe in that I believe we should be able to designate hole 1

Thanks Steve

Only 1 rule I have a problem with, and Steve and anybody else can weigh in.

"All matches in each format will begin on hole #1 and will play in the order created by the draft selection process"

I think this should read " All matches in each format will begin on the same hole in the order created by the draft selection process"

Yes, all players have to play the same set of holes with a rolling start, but I DO NOT believe that you have to choose HOLE #1.  Some courses have their best holes at 16, 17, and 18.  And in Match play, most matches are won or lost before getting to those last 2-3 holes, or more.

So Captains should have the freedom to start on whichever hole they prefer in order to put the best holes on the course in play.  As long as every match starts on the same hole, it would stay fair for both sides.

Never mind.  Answered here.

I do believe there should be a rule in place though. The course to be played must be announced at least 1 week from date of challenge.  Some team members can slip away for a round at one course, but may not have time to play at another.  A captain would need to know this.  Unless you pansies don't want to play against us, and would rather cheat to win by forfeit.  Scared of the actual challenge.

I will also have a qualifier at swope to keep the west side team on their heels in not knowing exactly which course we will use until the official announcement is made on the Sunday course for the challenge.

Are you saying you will not announce the course we are playing until that day? I don't really think you can do that. We should be able to plan where we have to go on Sunday. While I'm all for gamesmanship, we should know where the F we are playing. Don't be that guy.

I don't think he meant it that way, Dick.  Though I suppose it could be read that way.  It's another item that doesn't have any "rules" around it.  But I may have to make a rule, in the future, for codifying the event so others can take it over.   Or I can leave it alone (no codifying) and simply expect the captains will be respectful of their competitors by providing the course selection well ahead of time.

Am I right in thinking that the course does have to be a KCFDC course, right?

If not, I will announce on the morning of gameday Saturday that we are playing at 7:00am on Dick Parker's mini course.  Good luck getting to Oklahoma in time F$%^&ers!! Ha!!

Once we start filling in a roster, I will let the team decide whether we play Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon.  The past 2 years have played alternate shot around 1:30 to 3:00 in the afternoon.  But if it would be better to play this year's round at 9:00am, I'm ok with that.

Rosedale Cup, this Sunday, Top 6 scores on the Kansas side earn a coveted spot on the team.  Shoot well!!!

What course(s) will be used for the KC Team Challenge/E vs.W?

It is usually kept secret or undecided up until about a month before the event.

I have a wizard and have never thrown it because I couldn't get used to it. You all are making me want to....

How did you know you couldn't get used to...if you have never thrown it?     ;)

Never played a 'real' tourney.  I am a bogey to par type player.  I have been playing super causal rounds for a few years......
Since i made this post i started writing down my score on every hole, every round.  It seems i am/was a bit disillusion.   Lets just go ahead and take Par out of that sentence.

Nothing wrong with that...just means lots of room to improve ;D  And playing in a tourney will get you hooked fast.

I like it to be a little stiff with just a bit of give and nice grip/feel.

Whoa, keep it PG.  Are we still talking about Wizards?!?  Or are we now on to Magic....Mike.

Want to get some dates set-up early, so there is not so much last minute hustling.

The Team Challenge will be the weekend of June 6/7.  So if you can't play that weekend, don't worry about reading anything else.

16 players + 4 alternates on the team.

First 6 spots will be given to the Lowest 6 scores at the Rosedale Cup, March 14th/15th.

Next 6 spots will be given to Lowest scores at one chosen Kansas league in April

Last 4 spots given at a last chance Qualifier, open to all west side participants.  But will be played in Match-play format.  Names drawn from hat and put into Bracket.  9-hole Matches.  Winners move on until there remain only 4.  Course TBD.  I would like to do this in May, but most of the weekends are taken up.

So I need some feedback....We can either do this match-play qualifier on Sunday the 17th of May, a day after Paradise Diamond.  Or, I think we could pull it off on a weeknight.  As long as everybody that wanted in got signed up early, I could have the bracket made up, and we could tee off at 6 and finish before dark.

Last 4 Spots are Captain's picks, including myself if I do not qualify beforehand.  And yes Lee, I do believe some delicious lunch just may buy your way in  ;)  But play your way in first!

If anyone on this great side of the border has any ideas or comments on anything, please speak up!  The rest of you LEast-siders,  p!ss off.

Let us get this 3-peat Championship Train rolling!!!

I don't want any more excuses from the losing side, and I believe we need to try our best to have the best players possible competing.

Here is an idea?

What if we had the Alternate shot round around 5 pm during the mid week (Wed,Thurs, Fri), and then we would only require players to have to commit to one weekend day?

Or we could have all 3 rounds on consecutive weekday nights and not even use a weekend.

Agree, I think the Midwest Doubles Championship could really pull away talent from the team challenge.  I know I would choose Kansas first, but some people really love their doubles.

Joe, were you still considering using Lakeside Hills for the Saturday, alt shot round?  If so, perhaps we could work with the MDC organizer to have them start early (like 8:00 am tee). Then take a 3 hour or so lunch to allow the Team Challenge to use the course.  When the Team Challenge is done, then they start their afternoon round. Plenty of daylight early June to pull it off. Doing this makes it so neither event has to change dates, in addition to allowing players to participate in both, if they choose.

It's a fine solution for one year, but Team Challenge has foothold on claim for first weekend in June.  I don't think the Team Challenge should have to accommodate the new event every year.  So making an exception this year may only set precedence for continued conflict on this weekend.

Lakeside was #1 on my list for Alternate-shot Saturday.  I think the team challenge is turning into a pretty awesome event for KC, and I would really like to see the first weekend in June locked down for years to come...with the exception of KCWO needing that weekend.  DDKC? Chime in, and let us know what we can work out.

I think there could be a lot of people from surrounding areas that would be interested in playing the Midwest Doubles Championships...

How about the Midwest Team Championships!?!?!

Could be an idea for the future.

Not listed on the PDGA site.

Completely agree with Tracy on this, especially since the MO KAN BEAT KANSAS event is something that we all want to see.....

June 6th - Midwest Doubles Championship - B Tier - (Lakeside Hills, Olathe, KS)

That doubles event is in conflict, locally, with the Club's Team Challenge Event.  It wasn't on the BoD's calendar when I attended the board meeting, in January, to finalize the date for the Team Challenge.  I don't think it is fair to make locals choose between the two events.  As such, one of them should be rescheduled.  Who is organizing the Midwest doubles event?
