General Banter / Re: Jeff City Open - 10/19/13

Great course!  I recommend anybody traveling through Jeff City, stop and play Joseph C Miller.

However if you are a competitive Pro player and see $1000 added cash on the flier for this tournament next year. Do not be fooled (like the rest of us) into thinking this tournament will have a great payout.

19 Open, 12 masters.  You'd think 31 pros is $1000/31=$32.25 per player added cash.  So $612.75 added to Open, and $387.25 added to masters.

Not the case in Jeff City...They say split it evenly between all fields, so $200 for each division(Open, Masters, Adv, Intermediate, Rec)  Never heard of this in my life.  Ams get paid out in plastic, so if you add $200 cash, to their payout, with the price of at-cost discs, they pocket somewhere between $75-$100 per division.  I'm just  guessing on the amount there.

So anyway, when it is all said and done.
The Open payout adds up to $941.  19 entry fees=$855
Masters = $577.  12 entry fees=$540
So where did the extra $200 added cash go?  hmmm.  A total of $123 extra added to both Open and Masters combined.  BullS$^t!

Point being-Do not put $1000 added cash on your flier, and pull this.  75% of the pros that came were from KC or St. Louis, and we were all coming for that added cash.

I will say the course was in excellent condition and was very challenging and fun.  BUT finishing at 6:30, and then holding a raffle for 2 hours, while some of us traveling with Ams (waiting on their plastic), have to wait until 8:30 for them to give out merch.  I won't be back, except to play the course again.

Oh, Also, don't say Lunch on the flier, and then have food for sale.  When I see Lunch, I think Lunch provided.  That is like putting Lunch on everyday of my calendar, so I know I should eat lunch everyday.  That is a given.

Losing $10 or losing $5.  Not much difference there.  But winning $40 instead of $20, I'll take that gamble.

I'm not comparing leagues, comparing $$$. And there sure are a lot of under 900 rated people that show up for down under, wanting a good partner and some of those dollar bills. I doubt there is much differece between playing in the dark vs playing in a million trees.

It's never been $10, you can't compare yet.  Let's see what happens.  If numbers drop, you can always go back. Out of the 10 or so people we brought this idea up to, not one was against it.

Of course, you are the first. But nobody asked you :o

$10! Yes!  More money in the pot=more players, in my opinion.  Down under gets crazy numbers all winter on $10.  And with it being dubs, any player that shows up(no matter what rating they have) and pays $10, has a chance to win $30-$80.

Dick, just bring some lights out to sell, and you will have your entry fee.

Can we start embedding microchip gps's inside the baskets, so we can catch these wankers?

Sorry Steve. Going to cancel this weekend.  Too many people with other commitments.  When I get enough people interested in for sure playing a certain date, I will post when and where we will play.

I have a plan for Super-class this Sunday the 13th.  I would like to play the proposed course at Austin Harmon Park in Prairie Village.  Was out there walking my dogs and throwing the frisbee this last weekend, and decided I don't want to wait til it's built to play it.

We will play the proposed 9 hole layout, and I would like to add 3 killer holes to go along with it.  2 rounds for 24 holes. I need some help with some more portable baskets though(I have 2), and I need some up-front commitments, so we can make this happen.  A good 5-6 more baskets and I can make it work.

I haven't heard any more news on this course anyway, so you never know if they are changing their plans on building it.  So maybe we can get a good showing out there and get some good photos as proof of the actual Interest in a disc golf course.

Please respond if you can bring a basket and/or you are interested in playing.

Sunday at 8:30, Austin Harmon Park, 79th & Delmar, PV-KS  Superclass discs only - but I will try to bring some extras out as well.  Probably play dubs.

I walked off some holes to check distances.  Not precise but pretty close.
1-230ft
2-300ft
3-288ft
4-207ft
5-219ft
6-216ft
7-270ft
8-180ft
9-182ft
10-162ft(Island)
11-102ft
12-282ft

Talking with Fred last night, he is waiting until actual time change(Nov 3rd) to do anything official.

In the meantime, Old Pike had 18 out last night.  So go there for fun Tuesdays through October.

I vote all courses(whichever we play) need to be in Championship Layout(aka- hardest pin settings).  Shooting even should be killing it.

I can make SMP set up so that 54 is almost 1000 rated. Just say the word.

Word.
