Tournaments / Re: 2014 Kan-U-Wyco PDGA B Tier - March 8th & 9th

They are all set

The pins were all set on Saturday, thanks to TravisD. Also per conversation with Scott, we won't be putting down extra OB this year.  Weather hasn't cooperated.

The weather hasn't played out as earlier expected. Many of the "ifs" I mentioned have resolved.  With one exception; volunteer help.  And that one may be resolving itself. Talked to Scott and he agreed that if we can get it done, to go for it. So it is quite possible the painted OB will be added this afternoon. I'll post again this evening with what gets done exactly.

I'll be out at 4:30 to help.

Although I will help, boo for OB's. This course is hard enough already.

It would not be Kan-U-Wyco without the OB's.  Hole 2 becomes stupid without OB, everybody would just short-cut it across the open valley.  Hole 10, same way, everybody could just play it wide and avoid all trees.   It's not about how far you can drive, it's about how far can you control a drive:)

I don't mind having a traveling league in the evening.  I actually really lilke the idea.  I'm concerned about attendance though.  I think it would have to be on a set night - like every Monday or every Wednesday (actually those are the only two I'm available.)

If I ran it, I would post the 10 week schedule ahead of time.  All 10 weeks.

This sounds great Rob.  I don't think you would have any problem with attendance.  Especially when putting out an early schedule.

You of course can do it how ever you want, the issue would be getting approval to exchange funds at a course that isn't KCFDC approved.  I know for example a few places have already indicated that without insurance they don't want any type of "organized" event at their park.

So by having the KCFDC courses, you have the insurance piece covered, and that alleviates many of the NIMBY types.

I know this is a KCFDC forum, and I don't mean to step on toes...but I am pretty sure that I can meet a group of guys at a course anywhere, anytime, and play golf, exchange funds, etc.  I don't need insurance or permission for that.  So why couldn't a week here or there be on a course outside the KCFDC realm?  Who has to know it was a league? And not just some random dudes throwing discs for few $

I think FTL would be a perfect PDGA league, but I can only commit to every other week - at best (and maybe not even that) - starting the second week of April when I go back to having Friday's off.  I think we could have more than one PDGA league, FTL being one of them, but that would have to be someone else.

I don't believe you should have a PDGA league that only privileged people who enjoy Friday's off can play.  Some of us want to play too, but don't have the 4-day work week, or unemployment.

I would be very interested in a PDGA league on the Kansas side.

Mondays are Olathe league nights, but a Wednesday night Kansas traveling league would be cool. Wyco, SMP,Lakeside, PC, Heritage, Little Kansas BV, Perry once or twice.

I like this idea.  Rob, you should run a Wednesday Kansas Traveling KCFDC PDGA League. I'd even venture to Lawrence, Perry, Baldwin, on Wednesday nights!!!

I also think it would be awesome to take a summer off from every Wednesday Rosedale League.  The course needs a break.   Just play it once a month or so on Wednesday Night Traveling league.

Just an opinion.

It's not Wyco, I cleaned all the pads yesterday and nobody had been on them.  :)

Thanks Joe!!

Yeah - unfortunately I'm betting those that do this are not on this board.  Last snow fall, I had the same problem at Centennial in Lawrence.  It sucked.

however, I suppose there may be one or two that do read this...

Pass it along, and when you see someone playing on a snowy teepad...hit them in the face with a snowball, and then explain why.

To all those idiots out there.

General Rules of Playing after it has recently snowed:

1.  Bring a shovel and clean the tees off.

2.  If you do not have a shovel or don't want to clean the tees,  DON'T TEE OFF FROM THE TEE, DIPS&!T.  Now you have caused an ice patch across the tee, so nobody else can throw from the tee.  Just Tee from the side moron, or make up some safari holes until the tees have melted or been cleaned.

Just a little Tuesday Rant

This would also help the Course coordinators/league directors have a break.  Only 2 leagues to run a month ;)

The only problem I see with this is the separation between courses. I would imagine some of the people here go from work to the course, so they might be limited on how much time they have to get there. Say I have 10 mins to get to swope before league starts but rosie is 10 mins farther away I then can only play league twice a month on tuesday.

You could solve that with
Johnson County Mondays - Birdland/Pc/SmP
Southeast Mo Tuesdays - Legacy/Blue Springs
Wacky Wyandotte Wednesdays - Wyco/Rosie
Thurs - WW
KCMO Fridays - Swope/Cliff

The whole point is to maybe help more people to show up to ONE league, rather than spreading the number of players to 2 different courses, leaving 2 small leagues.

I like it and would fully support it.  However, I'm not sure if the general population of league players will be able to remember or keep up with the schedule.

Maybe disc golfers could learn to pay attention a little better, and this might help them to work on their memory as well.  Plus we have this Snazzy forum and main KCFDC page that could put it directly into the calendar.

Or...we have enough courses now to use all courses for leagues, but rotate every other week between 2 courses.
                  1st/3rd of month----------2nd/4th of month
Monday -   Birdland/PC                        Legacy
Tuesday -  SMP                                   Blue Springs
Wed.   -    Rosedale                             Swope
Thurs  -    Waterworks - Full time
Friday  -    Wyco                                  Cliff Drive
Saturday  - Big Blue Valley                  Liberty-Stocksdale
Sunday   -  P-Hill                                 Smithville

Edit:  Forgot Old Pike...sorry.  OP can still do whatever day it wishes since it is its own club.

I will not get into calling Legacy lame, but Legacy is just as far out as Wyco for most of us.  Legacy move to Monday or Tuesday, and Cliff or Swope move to Fridays. That's my vote.

A couple of extras this week. If we have at least 10 in at $1 CTP - you could win a Limited edition FTL 2014 disc golf calendar. Each month has a picture of hole #14 from an different FTL course played.

Very cool :D

General Banter / Re: Roe Park
« on: January 29, 2014, 08:15:07 AM »
Went and walked Roe Park to see how much land was there, and if the area in the center of the park is useable for a disc golf course, it would be great for a 9-12 hole disc golf (down under style) course.  I found 9 great holes out there that wouldn't even require too much tree removal to get it started.  Not sure what is all available for use though, I'll be very interested to know what goes down at the meeting Thursday.

Map of area

I doubt area south of the river is owned by OP Parks, but if it was, there is enough room for 9 holes on each side of the river.

Just Bumping this up to the top...

Please, if you live in the Johnson County vicinity and would like to see more courses put in. Take time to go have your voice heard from 7-8:30 this Thursday @Matt Ross Community Center.  They want to put in a course, let's help them move forward.

Also on a side note, did hear back from Prairie Village Parks Dept., and 9-hole course at Harmon Park on 79th & Mission is still planned to begin construction this Spring/early Summer!

Joe Hesting, Scott Reek, Zeke Henry,Wayne Callicot, Matt   Hays, John   Thompson, Derrick   Holt = All played the final 9 on CD's card.  Little man got his score posted and tossed the rest of us away.  Nice :-[
