General Banter / Re: Gateway? Gateway!

SSS Wizards!!! Preferably black or pink (eraser pink). That is all I throw from Gateway.

The softness of the Super stupid Soft is unreliable though. I have to touch any disc before I buy it.

I am running the Midwest Doubles Championship and sorry to bother everyone.  I moved it to that date without realizing the conflict and just have not had time to move it from this thread until now.  I put it back to its original date in April.  I would never try to intentionally conflict with a club event.

I have updated the main page with most of the events i noticed in this thread

Thank you.

Tournaments / Re: Newcomer's first PDGA experience gone wrong.....

That sucks James. I know you were both so excited for this first tournament experience and then some d. bags ruin it. I can almost guarantee that wouldn't happen here, and I bet you'd agree. :) :) I have played in some out-of-town events and had some less than helpful folks on my card. Never to this extent, but when that happens, I don't return to that town or the event. Pretty simple. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Sorry to hear that bro.

BTW, this was so much better than any of Jack's rants  ;D

Old Pike / Re: course navigation
« on: January 31, 2015, 08:27:19 pm »
I play there a lot and see your point. However, Old Pike is a private club, so take it up with them. The KCFDC cannot make improvements there. Maybe the annual 50 bucks could go towards tee signs.

Having said that, there have been many problems with vandalism and theft after dark. There is foot traffic that goes through there other than disc golfers. Mike T. made aware of the lights that were stolen and just random destruction. It sucks.

DD and Old Pike worked together on the bridge and the donation box though. And since they are made of steel, I think they will stay put :)

"You can do as you see fit, but for me the knowledge that mountain bikers took the initiative to do what is right says more to me than the fact that gunfire happened again in the city......"

Agreed. My exact thoughts. Someone took the initiative.

A million thanks to all who made it out today. We'll get it posted but I think about 15 made it out all come to work.
Again, thanks to everyone for making KC golf the best around.

BTW, if anyone ended up w/ an extra Craftsman shovel, it's mine.  ;)

I'll be there and bringing some help! If you play Down Under league and can get away, come out and help. We can get this done in an hour and half - two hours. Congratulate ourselves for a job well done, get some lunch (on the club), and then play our favorite league at 12:30.

Water Works / Water Works Trash and Baskets
« on: January 12, 2015, 01:17:25 pm »
Thanks to Mark Mills, Kujo, Jamie Barry, Mike Fenton, Danny Rodriguez, and Ryan Keck for their help with WW this weekend and today. Mark and Kujo are moving some baskets today and all the trash cans have been emptied and bags carried to the street.

If you are out there playing, any help is appreciated and if you pack it out, pack it in. Also, we carried a lot of bottles out yesterday. Please no bottles, or take em with you.

Pete Cashen is working on signage, and we will spread the word.

Tournaments / Re: East Vs. West 2015
« on: December 24, 2014, 12:09:03 am »
Thanks Tracy. It'll be good for new members to get an idea of what this event is.

IMO, a good team captain can create match ups so that even a good casual player can help his/her team.

Why would a casual golfer be playing in it? Other than qualifying at an event or being picked by a captain to help the team win?

Because there are not 32 professional disc golfers in Kansas City. There are some good casual players in the mix as well. Maybe I am wrong, but I can only think of a few pro's in town.

My other point was a good captain recognizes opportunities and threats by knowing the players. Who can do that for the East? Meanwhile, Joe has shown us he is the best pick for the West.

General Banter / Re: Charitable Giving as a part of events
« on: December 23, 2014, 02:49:05 pm »
I'm gonna be crazy and address the original topic  ;)

I get the feeling that those of us who give on an annual basis already have the charities we want to support. I like to see my dollar go as far as possible and am quite picky about to whom I donate. Having said that, the KCFDC does state in its mission that it supports charity events such as Ice Bowl. It also states the desire for competition. For example, FLHW is great event, but I never went into it thinking about winning. I was there to play and give money to a cause.

Our mission:
To provide an exceptional disc golf experience in Kansas City while focusing on competition, conservation, education, partnerships, and philanthropy. We strive to make disc golf attractive to all local players, help our parks, and entice others to visit!

The KCFDC does this via:
Volunteers
Partnerships with Our Neighborhood Associations
Sponsoring Disc Golf Events
Course Maintenance
Relationships with City and County governments
Charity donations

So who's running this now? Not team captains, but the big picture. Serious question. Tracy? I'd love to see juniors and women added to the format. Great suggestion Joe! 20 player teams. I think this town can support that.

One bit of advice, don't follow the other guy's lead. Your strategy is up to you East Side.

Opinion, the year I played in this event I qualified at a club league. Not a sanctioned event. I had no chance last year as I didn't want to or couldn't play in the qualifiers. There's a lot to be said for having so many leagues at so many great courses.

I love the random draw match play format too! It adds just enough randomness in the context of  the event format. This will bring the wild card players. Very nice addition there.
