General Banter / Re: Frisbee / Golf Disc History and Manufacture
« on: August 31, 2011, 06:36:46 PM »
Thanks Rick. The first link on e-notes is very informative.

One thing that drives me crazy about fonts is this: "Under the Bemoulli Principle, there is then a lower air pressure on top of the frisbee than beneath it. "

So what is the principle? BEMOULLI or BERNOULLI? The latter is correct, but this is exactly why I prefer my students use Times New Roman. Yeah, I am a nerd for words, even their fonts. Also that sentence is a grammarian's nightmare. It reads such that because of the Bernoulli Principle lower air pressure exists. A kind of if so, then  logic is implied here. " According to the Bernoulli Principle"  and lose the "then" would have been a better choice of words. Oh, and air air pressure is not countable so lose the article before lower. Quality of editing is often an indicator or quality of content.

Okay, I am done ranting and nerding out.

Rosedale / Re: Big thanks to Steve Engleman
« on: August 01, 2011, 01:16:48 PM »
Yes, we should all thank Steve Engleman for emptying Down Under. What ton of work! He did it for the reason we all should: because we love the courses.
As a matter of fact, if you see any of the Englemans, say thank you. They have each hepled KC disc golf in their own unique ways.

Thanks to Rick and staff for running this event and doing it well. I love how Rick mixes up the first round cards so new and old players play together. Some other TDs might take a cue on this, or not. Thanks again,

Rosedale / Re: New Players League

The other great thing about Tuesday at Swope is the non-sanctioned doubles there every Tuesday! Join the double league on that Tuesday. It'd be fun for all, not just the new players.

I am interested in trading or selling these discs. If you are looking to trade, I am very interested in all Flex plastic, Buzzes, Pro Wraiths, Surge SS, Nuke SS, and old Evolution and $$$ Wizards. If you would like to buy, make an offer. Good deals for multiple discs. Know an organization that can use used discs? I will donate. 816 510 0510.

From Jack
"The pools are starting to look along these lines for the event-

Pool A-Men's Open
Fri-WW am & Cliff pm-Sat Blue Valley Tee Times-Sun @ Swope Tee Times
Pool B-All other Pro Divisions
Fri-Cliff am & WW pm-Sat Blue Valley Tee Times-Sun @ Swope Tee Times
Pool 1-Advanced Men
Sat-WW am & Rosedale pm-Sun Cliff
Pool 2-All other Am divisions
Sat-Rosedale am & Cliff pm-Sun WW

If the am pool totals less than 95 players we will put all players in one pool, and that would look like the following then:
AM ONLY POOL
Sat-Rosedale am & Cliff pm-Sun WW"

As of today 6-4-11 there are 68 Pro players registered for the NT event, and 53 Am players registered for the A tier event. Does this mean all 53 Am players are playing for a total of three trophies? This is a trophy only event for the Am players as I understand. Is this correct? Please clarify.

@Andy aka Slant "That is a bunch of crap Coop....don't worry about it and stomp it again this year!!"

To be clear I was complimenting Cooper. SO no, not a bunch of crap.
I didn't want to seem rude by posting it on the forum. Cooper chose to share it w/ all y'all.

Smithville / Re: new walking trail through the course?
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:33:58 PM »
I am awaiting my five new courses. ;)

Yeah there are going to be some issues for sure. There are some great MTB trails at Smithville and as a rider and golfer, I am not going to stop my ride to allow a golfer to throw. And no I am not riding the paved paved trails.  ;D This a shared space and we must consider everyone involved. The phrase "oh I won't hit 'em" is gonna bite somebody in the arse for sure. So many times I have heard players say" I can't even throw it that far." Well, that is the moment you are most likely to throw it that far, possibly hit someone. Nobody wants to hit anybody with a disc. I think. Use discretion.

And I'd like to add publicly my props to Dan and all involved in this monumental project. Great job guys and gals!

If you're trying to start a fire under some rear ends, I think there are better ways. Really Rep vs Dem? Personally, I am under the impression the majority of disc golfers are, in fact, quite conservative. Sure we all disagree on some points, but not all that many. We seem to be a level headed and practical bunch in many ways. I guess my rant here is that all this politic shmolitics is intended not to focus on what is really important but instead to distract.

What really matters here is the economics of disc golf. Instead of playing political games here, why not challenge the young blood in our community to come out and put in some volunteer time. I see lots of new young players a lot on the courses and would like to see more involvement from these players.  Why did I say economics of disc golf? Because of the following: Who runs our disc golf "household"? What is involved in running this "household"? Our "household" is kept up through a few big actions by a few and a thousand little ones by the many. I am one of the many. Every chance I get I make disc golf better by picking up litter and trash, by moving fallen limbs to drainage areas to slow erosion, or just telling people about disc golf and all the great things our community does. So, I'd like to challenge more of the many previously mentioned to get out there and make a difference everyday.

I know being inflammatory is part of your modus operandi, yet I felt the need to offer a different challenge.

And no I can't make it on Saturday 'cause I am a working class Joe with a college education still working six days a week. How Liberal! :D
