So there is that. I hope the board or whoever take this into consideration in the meetings for arranging the purchase of new baskets.

General Banter / Re: Pay to play in KC
« on: July 07, 2013, 07:32:28 PM »
As a KC born and raised member, I believe KC has continued to falter time and time again by following "what every other similar city does" attitude. This can go back to the revitalization of downtown while sacrificing the city's schools, including Power and Light, gentrification of Northeast, Strawberry Hill, the Crossroads, trolley car plan (?) and the current plan to follow other mid-size hubs and airports in fly-over-country and reduce our excellent airport to one hub instead of three.

Perry, I appreciate your perspective, and I too have been around and seen a bit of the world and how others do it. I don't think it is just to discredit your limited disc golf experience in KC either. I do, however, disagree with your opinion on pay-to-play. Our courses are among the top in the country, and hence the world, due to the PEOPLE and cooperation with local governments. The people are what make this place great. The need for the dolla-dolla-bill-y'all is not what makes disc golf here. It is the abundance of the dollars that made the parks and green space possible. Now it is on us to make something of it, and in my opinion, we are getting better not worse.

Privatization has done nothing good for government services in recent history, and I fear that ultimately pay-to-play leads to private, not public and the consumer, free or not, gets screwed. We have got a great thing going here. Let's make it better. Who says we want to be like other cities? We are already doing a great job. I am no elitist and that is where pay-to-play takes us.

Thoughts on Old Pike as a pay-to-play course?

Thanks Jake, but me and my air bounce are out-of-town this weekend. I def want to try this though. Maybe I'll work an aspect into Roc v Buzzz as Jamie has suggested.

First world problems people! Get the hell out of KC for a disc golf weekend and you'll quickly realize you are all spoiled.

Seriously, one man's opinion is just that, an opinion. I am happy to throw at any basket, even the one's that spit out solid putts because it is free to play and I enjoy it regardless.

I wish I had time to argue about baskets, create polls, and work against the efforts of the few.

Okay, now everyone prove me wrong, or contradict, since that seems to be the flavor of this forum lately.

Personal Leadership here peeps!

Bring your dollar bills y'all.  Got some birdie poker in mind.  Longest putts, Ctp's, etc.  Or is this getting way too EVENT-like?

Now, knock it off already! BTW, setting up a shorter layout for league tonight, so y'all should have some fun with your Super Classy discs!

Yours truly is running Swope league tonight. I am pulling the course in shorter for tonight, so come out and shoot some low scores and maybe hit an ace (if I don't get one first  ;) ). This will be the opposite of GOLD layout, so maybe it is the ZINC or nickel layout.

The short layout is also for the Super Class wonkiness happening on the Fourth.

Tournaments / Re: ROC vs BUZZ 2013

The tournament proposal needs to go to the Bod or apporval. But yes, I have a date, Sep. 21, already secured and will have the details posted afer the next BoD meeting after approval.

I like your energy there Danger! The plan for the 1st annual Roc v Buzzz will be similar to last year including a player's pack, lunch, drinks, and games. We had a great ring-of-fire last year and lots-o-winners. This year there will be no stipulations for which buzzz or roc you can throw. Looking like a team event again this year. Details to follow next meeting.

I moved a few pins shorter yesterday so league should be quicker than usual tonight. The course still looks great too.

Caddy Shack has great pizza and a good tenderloin sandwich, I suggest tater tots with that. Cool place to grab a beer too. The Vietnamese place is pretty good on Independence Ave., but the Vietnam Cafe in Columbus park, 5th and Campbell, rocks it. Call them ahead and get it to go. It's always busy for lunch. On the Water Works side, there is In-a-Tub at 400O N. Oak. It's a not healthy but still great.
