General Banter / Re: Best 3 courses in town?

The complex in Smithville (about 20 min north of downtown on 169) at Smithville Lake is a MUST play.  Three courses (par 56, 58, and 61)  It costs $5 to get in, but is well worth it.  All three have a great mix of woods and open holes.  If you miss the fairway, be warned----the grass is tall (they bail it in the late summer).  Blackthorn (the middle course) is one of the best courses in the area.  Other than those, I'd recommend Birdland (Lakeside Hills) in Olathe and Legacy in Lees Summit.  If you want 3 close, Blackthorn and Woodhenge in Smithville and Jesse James Park in Kearney would all be a great combination of open holes and wooded on the same course.

Circle C, East Metro, and Austin Bible were three of my favorites when I was there last year.  If you play Austin Bible, make sure you have your most sturdy hiking boots available....it makes Water Works look like a smooth piece of glass.  What ever you do, make sure you keep it in the fairway cause it is a wall of thorns if you miss it.

Found a disc across the road by the rocks across from the basket / just before the island for 15 long.  No phone number on it.  Describe it (color, type, weight, identifying marks) and it will be returned.

Great tourney, DD...as usual.  Lakeside was much better than I expected being as new as it is.  Some of those holes are crazy...but in a challenging, good way.  PC was a lot more cleared out than last year... looked really good.  I still think 12 should be a par 4 tho :P  And a great shout out to G$ for hearing my phone/picking it up....much appreciated.

So is Lakeside still the home of uncontrolled and untamed ticks and poison ivy?

Hey Dale,

Ive played both courses quite a bit in the last month and havent had many  ticks at all(and I often throw in the deep stuff).  The few I have pulled off have been tiny ones.  The last 2 leagues at birdland have yielded 0 of them.  Plenty of burrs but with the rough getting mowed down, your socks should be salvagable.  I dont get poison ivy so I cant comment on that. ;)

Cool.  Thanks, Jeff.  I had heard the ticks and poison ivy were crazy thick there and was just wondering if they were a little more under control than in the beginning.

The only ones who should have to pay to play the courses are the lazy pieces of sh1t who don't show up for work days.

And the Holier than thou azzholes that think they are better than you cause they put in a few hours helping out once in a while.

on the grand scale of the usa, we need to lower taxes by decreasing our military by 90% and focus on peace, health care, and fine arts, like disc golf which happens to fall into all 3 of those categories.

Good luck with that....you wont have the last three without the first one.  Just look at history.

I actually like the concept.....leave some (many?) courses for those that don't want to play a nice, trash free course, but have some that charge a REASONABLE fee ($35 for a year on 3 or 4 or more courses is very reasonable) and has good signage, trash free, mowed on a regular basis, and taken care of.  A small percentage of club members do a lot for our courses, but the vast majority of the non club member playing public trash the work of those few....plus the courses get mowed when ever P & R decide to do it....not necessarily when they need to be mowed.

I agree with Dick....let the lower level players start with the tougher course and the pros finish with it.  A pro that throws 400+ feet has a better chance to make a move on the longer course than 300' throwing rec player.

I like the towel idea.  I have tons of shirts, but keep losing towels.  The tourney at Belle Park (a DD tourney) a couple years ago gave out towels with our name on it and we (wife, son and I ) thought that was awesome.

Another notable was Andrew Walters improving 90 positions from 124th last year to 34th this year.  He was just out of the cash, but that was a heck of an improvement over a year.
