I'm in on Saturday.  Closest course to my apartment and it's the longest course in the US?  Booyaaa!

I've been there but don't know about courses.  Sorry.

Smithville isn't proof enough of how that worked? The only way to really test the theory is charge parking at every park. Then you'll see the casual players no longer playing along with several others who may not like extra fees.

You know what I love about Smithville and other pay-to-play courses?  They are clean. You don't see a lot of trash under every bush and the tee signs aren't vandalized. Some have security as is the case with Smithville Park. I like knowing my car will very probably not get broken into.

Pay-to-play courses keep the trash and the riff-raff out.  Who are trash and riff-raff?  People who litter and vandalize.  They will not make the sport grow, so I couldn't care less how many of them take up disc golf.

There will still be free courses to play in.  The increase of pay-to-play courses will not completely eliminate free courses.

I'd like everyone to know that I don't know what tag I have.  It's one hundred something.

I stopped the full reach back from a Hemme suggestion.  I lost some distance, but I gained more command.  I am not as accurate or consistent with a full reach back.  Heck, I am not accurate or consistent.  I would love to incorporate more reach back into my game.  I would love to incorporate more consistency  and accuracy.  I would love...  Suggestions on how the heck Will throws with full reach back and accuracy is appreciated.

It's not a black an white thing, Quinnie.   Hemme is right, but his advice must be taken in context with what you were doing at moment he advised you. For example, was it a wide open 200 ft upshot?

I recently went to the full reach back not to gain power -I could already throw it 500+ ft- but to gain straight line accuracy.  Before learning the full reach back I used a bent elbow technique.  Bent elbow afforded me great distance control.  The drawback with bent elbow is "rounding".  During rounding the disc is not traveling in a straight line as you pull it from the reach back to the release.  The disc is actually traveling in a curve.  Looking at "rounding" from above, you can easily see that if your release point is not perfect, you will release early and throw the disc left of your intended target (if you are right handed) or release the disc late and have it travel right of where you want it to go.  Rounding can spell trouble when you need to hit a gap.  Full reach eliminates rounding.

I still use bent elbow when I need to hit a certain distance, but if I need to hit a line I use full reach back.

As for accuracy, you can only gain that with a lot of practice.  Field practice.  Don't play rounds.  Only playing rounds is one of the worst things you can do for your game if what you want is to get better fast.  You just won't improve much.

Yes, I agree, Cooper.  The first thing I noticed is that you don't have a full reach back.

I've gone with Will's method -tought to me personally by Will *cough, cough* :)- and I find it provides increased straight line accuracy and power.

See, I like the PDGA for the competition and the rules. That's fun to me. When I travel to a place I like knowing that a certain standard is upheld b/c the tourney is a PDGA event..

Greg, we follow all the rules in the PDGA hand book in Southern Nationals tournaments.  We just don't charge the same exorbitant entry fees or memberships.

I agree with Tank, it's total BS.  That's akin to cashing and spending all the cash on prizes after the event.

Complete and utter weak sauce.

You want to play with the big dogs, move up and donate for a while like most of us have.

Matt, IMO if you receive any prizes while playing Open, then you have cashed in Open and lose Am status.  If you plan on retaining Am status while playing in the Open field, you should be doing it for the experience and not for the recompense.

This is the start of something big, y'all.   I'm very happy to have participated in watering the seed.   Everyone should remember this event next year and come out.  It won't be a conflict with Joplin in the future.

Excellent event and thanks Scott for running it.  I had a blast!
