General Banter / Re: New match play format suggestion.

This city was barely able to operate a team style event. This idea is awesome but nigh impossible without incredible leadership and a group of players really committed to it.

Barely? We have had 3 years of team challenge and it has been a hit so far. I look forward to it every year now. It's the best non payout tournament in town.

Yeah, but how many people playing understood the points format? How many of the players really had a grasp on what was going on?

I've loved the event like many others, but for some reason, many people simply don't any formats other than normal scoring.

An event like this would have to be run by someone who really knows what's going on (thankfully we have plenty of great TDs) and the players would have to fully understand the format.

Also bummed but I'll be missing all 4 rounds as well, my new job is killing my golf time.

That said, I've got $5 on Tank vs the Field, who wants some? (One person only)

Shawnee Mission / Re: league schedule

I meant to post a thread earlier, sorry guys.

The official SMP League is done for the year, as we always end after September. There's been some interest in a glow league, either official or casual, but I have nothing to do with that.

Thanks everyone for a great year! No aces this year, so we end with a $566 pot!

I actually didn't win advanced last year. Tied with Toby Prince and lost in the playoff.

I will be playing again this year though, Open this time!

EKolk and all the rest of the staff helping out made this event great again. That guy really knows how to run an event!

Ugh, I meant 9/23. Tonight.

Anyway, here is a rough map of what we're doing-

So after normal Hole #3, players will go across the road (towards Renner Rd.), for the new #4 Teepad.

#4 Teepad is between a couple of trees, and plays long down the hill towards the bottom-left corner. Wooden fence line is OB. #4 is about 515 feet.

#5 Teepad is back up the hill a ways, right along the fence line. Plays through/around a handful of big trees, and basket is on the right side of the fairway. Fence line still OB. #5 is a par 4 and plays about 575 feet, although up hill the hole way.

Players will then go back across the road and play-

- Normal Hole #4 (Now #6)
- Normal Hole #5 (Now #7)
- Skip Normal Holes #6 and #7, directly to Hole #8.
- Finish the course as normal.

I will have a handful of printed maps out to give each card. See you guys out there!

I think we'll be good with 530 start.

Shawnee Mission / SMP League 9/24 - 5:30 Start - Come try some new holes!
« on: September 23, 2014, 12:42:55 AM »
Hey guys! My good buddy Steve Thimmesch has been running league these last few weeks as I've been busy working, but I should be back tonight, with the intention of trying out a couple of new holes!

We'll still be playing 18 holes, but I'm going to have a couple of temporary pads and basket locations set-up for testing (they'll replace a couple of existing holes for league). Myself, Steve, and our friends in Parks and Rec have considered a number of different things for new holes and potential re-design work, but haven't actually tested any of them. I think today is a perfect chance to try a couple of things, and get some feedback on how they work.

I'll probably be out there early in the afternoon to set them up. I'll also probably come to the park around 4pm to hang around, so I can direct any early birds towards the new temp holes if you want to try them out before league.

PS: ACE FUND STARTS AT $557

So I lost the scorecards for last week, woops! All I know is that I played very badly, and everyone else didn't. Pretty sure Jon Thomas won open.

I do know that the Ace Fund is up to $528! Come get it this week and I won't lose the scores!
