That is a bit disheartening that the course isn't even mentioned in a passing. Doesn't sound like much is on the immediate (less than 5 years) horizon, though.

Is the same format for final nine from this year still in consideration? Because that was the coolest thing to watch!  ;D

This is literally the only thing I care about. I wonder how the pros feel about Final 9s (especially since holes were used that were different than the normal Swope Gold).

But it was by far the highlight of my weekend.

So we agree then. We don't need every course to be super hard, we just need one or two or three to be super hard.

I think, in the end, it comes down to variety. The base SMP course fits within the variety of KC disc golf for having multiple pin positions and being moderately challenging but yet maintaining that air of beginner friendliness. If the park would give us more land, I think we need to swing for the fences and put something out of character for KC there. At least two par 5's, 4-8 par 4's, and the rest can be varying degrees of par 3's. Then, if it needs to be adapted from there, there can be a goal to have two tees on each hole, with one being shorter and much easier, just like at Young Park.

That's my dream, essentially. Along with a potential sanctioned event next year that I mentioned, I'll do my best to plug the idea of a championship level course at the park.  I don't know how far we're likely to get with that, especially in the immediate future, but that's why we're talking about it. We can't implement any amazing ideas without dreaming about it first.

Why not put in another 18 pin course altogether?

Lord knows the park is big enough. Big enough for 10 full courses, easily.

Like I said, we have good contacts in the Parks Department, hopefully something like that could be a possibility in the future.

Some people have thrown out the idea of using an area already near the course, and adding 9 holes. So that someone could still play the course as usual, or one could play an extended version of 27 holes if they wanted to.

This guy is a joke. Throws 50 discs off the tee until he gets an ace, counts them all.

I've talked to the Parks Director and he seems interested in working with DD in running a Sanctioned Event out there early next year, and DD seems to share the same interest.

As for the rest of the park and a temporary course, I'm pretty sure I could, within a week, set up very long very technical course with Par well over 60. I've spent so much time driving/wandering the course, imagining huge sloping fairways, giant oak trees, pins near the lake. Like, a slightly scaled down Winthrop Gold.

How much of that is pipe dream and how much is realistic? I'm not sure. I think there is a lot of potential for temporary holes in the park (which is enormous), but I don't know how much of that land would be available to us in the immediate future. The Parks Director is a disc golfer, and definitely on our side, so I think we could potentially get some extra land to use for a tournament. And depending on how an event like that does, I think there is possibility in the future to expand further and further into the park, even if only temporary events.

It's just such a nice park with perfect Disc Golf landscape, it'd be a shame to never get to use any of it.

My thought would be one of Rosedale's long Pins on #9.

The new pin on hole #4 at SMP is a very tough 3, as are several of the new pins. But #4 (and maybe #3 Long) are the best candidates we've got for the Gold Course.

played it tonight, I like the stretching out of a bunch of the holes... hard to tell how they will throw with playing it in 30 mph winds tonight

I think this will be most people's first look at the new pins, and I tried to include as many as I could.

So I hope people like what they see.

Tentative Shawnee Mission Park set up-

1. Middle
2. Middle
3. Short
4. Long
5. Long
6. Short
7. Middle (original)
8. Middle
9. Middle (still very long)
10. Long Right
11. Middle
12. Long
13. Short right
14. Long
15. Short
16. Long
17. Middle
18. Original Short

Of those, 3-4 are brand new within the last few months, and only a few are the original pins.

Switched a couple of things. This is the final set up, and is currently set.

Wanted to thank Rick for everything he does in Kansas City, especially running this event. I have a great time in all KCFDC Events but this one is a great example to newer players of why they should get involved.

Also thanks to CD, Fred, Cooper, and Dick for 'helping' us out :P
