Shawnee Mission / 8/21/2012 Mini

Even with the new pins in place, a small group tonight-

1. Adam Cossette - 53
2. Peter Bures - 55
3. Jon Thomas - 61

The new setup is very difficult, as you see. We'll get used to the new holes, but they are not easy, by any means.

With no ace, the Ace Fund is up to $526! Come and get it!

Shawnee Mission / League Tomorrow - New Pin Settings
« on: August 20, 2012, 09:37:09 PM »
Some of you may have heard about this already, but 9 new pin settings have been put in at Shawnee Mission Park! All of these are longer, tougher pin settings, really legitimizing the course like it never has been before. In addition, the pins are now on a more regular movement cycle, so the course won't sit stagnant like it has the last couple of years. The only thing really left to do is find a way to get the rest of the locks open (some are still stuck).

Today I went out and moved a bunch of pins, many of them to their new longer pin settings. You all ought to come and play league tomorrow, the course is really looking good.

Ehhh I think most people got what you were trying to say, at least hopefully. I definitely didn't take it as a shot at Aaron in any way.

Like someone else said earlier in the thread, it's a tough decision to move up. Someone who moves up likely won't be cashing in Open anytime soon (at least at decent sized events), so it's not an easy call. Especially with AM Worlds next year being nearby for a lot of players.

Again, we hope that this inspires you to get out and see disc golf in America.

Color me inspired.

I picked Steve Brinster for Worlds and that didn't pan out. Maybe this time...

Adam raises a good point, our Ace fund is at $523, the 2nd highest after WyCo! (And I think we have more ace runs than WyCo :P)

That pin on #4 has actually been there for nearly a year, but the grass was never cut to properly use it. It makes a great hole, as far as I'm concerned, not an easy 3 by any means. The 1st four holes at SMP can be set to be very very tough. If all 4 holes are set deep, getting through even would be an accomplishment.

Which brings me to Hole #1 and it's deep pin. There apparently was a setting back to the right for a while (I never played it), but was since mangled by the mower. Myself, Steve Timmesch, and Bill Massen from Parks and Rec put a stake back there to mark a new pin, as well as marking 8 more pins through out the course (9 total).

All of these new pin settings are deeper than any of the others, a few are about 500 feet. They should be put in soon (I was told this week), and I will post something when they are put in.

I hope that with some of these new pin settings, we can get some folks out to league again! We've had spotty numbers the last few weeks, including just 2 (including myself) yesterday!

Jake tried to tell us he hit chains on #2 with a Buzzz. He didn't understand why we were so impressed.

Water Works / Re: Trash Talkin'
« on: August 07, 2012, 02:22:29 PM »
As someone who plays Shawnee Mission often, I can say for a fact that less trash cans = more litter around the course. When me and Ian were around yesterday, we didn't see much trash that wasn't near trash cans. The occasional water bottle in the fairway, but mostly it was stuff around the trash cans which were overflowing.

I don't think removing trash cans would help at all, rather we just need a solution for taking out the trash on a regular basis.

Ian knows I'm easily bribed with beer.

Course was very short this week Jeff, hence the low scores.

Not sure what the deal is with the scores, I didn't play so I can't say.

I'll take any max weights that anyone is willing to get rid of.  Also, has anyone ordered any from dgv yet?  Are they the same plastic or are they different from the old sds?  thanks

I just ordered a Max Weight SDS (the one labeled with Avery Jenkins' name). I'll let you know how it feels when it comes in.
