Tournaments / Re: Maverick Disc Golf Schedule 2015

For each tournament I send one email to previous players that have provided an email. If you wish to be on that mailing list send me a Private Message with your email address and I'll add you to the list. I do keep separate lists for KS/MO based tournaments and northern (SD/NE/IA) based tournaments.

This one was sent last night as an example:

 Hello,

(If you are new to this email that I do, I will only send one email per tournament that is coming up next. If you wish to not receive these, please let me know and I'll remove you from my list.)

First fall tournament - Atchison Aviatrix - down. Five more to go.

The next one up is on October 3, 2015 titled I Like Sp'Ike at Eisenhower State Park. The state park is located on Melvern Lake which is 16 miles SE of Osage City, KS; 33 miles NE of Emporia, KS or 42 miles straight south of Topeka, KS.

This is a C-Tier playing two rounds of 18 holes. If you are not familiar with Eisenhower SP DGC this website will give you lots of information about it:

http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3993

Registration ranges from $15 for juniors to $42 for Pro Open. You can register here:

http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/I_Like_SpIke_2015

The Ace / CTP fund will be a Innova Sports and/or Traverl basket. Multiple baskets will be given away if there are enough entries in the fund. Complete rules can be found here:

http://www.discgolfscene.com/tou…/I_Like_SpIke_2015/comments

Please be aware, as Eisenhower is a Kansas State Park, they do have daily use fees. There are also camping opportunities for tents, RVs, cabins and even YURTS. Since this is after October 1st, the "Off-Season" fee schedule applies. Tent camping is as low as $7. Three-utility RV camping is $19. More detailed information for this is found here:

FRIDAY NIGHT GLOW AT EISENHOWER

I'll be staying the night at the park Friday night and I really like playing glow golf. So - we're doing a Friday Night Glow on October 2nd. Check in for glow will start about 6:30 and we'll start playing about 7:30 or so. Cost will be $6. One dollar will go towards expenses (lights for baskets), the remaining will got towards payouts; cash for pro, credit for amateurs.

Since we are having a glow round, all glow discs will be on sale Friday night only. As an example of sale prices:
•Colored glow Innova Champion - normally $20, on sale for $15.
•Standard glow Innova Champion and Discraft Z Glow- normally $18-$19, on sale for $14. This will include the I Like Sp'Ike glow discs.
•All other glow discs (KC Rocs, KC Aviars, X-outs) will be $2 off.

This sale on glow discs will be Friday night only, October 2nd, at Eisenhower State Park only.

It has been at least three years since a PDGA sanctioned event has been held at Eisenhower State Park. I hope you can make it out.

Thanks!

Rob Martin

Hole Settings for Atchison Aviatrix

The definite hole settings is still in flux, but this is what it is shapping up to be:

Hole 1 - Normal tee with new shortened pin, 230 ' May use longer regular pin for one round and short pin for other round. Road right is OB
Hole 2 - Normal. Road all around is OB
Hole 3 - Normal. Road is OB
Hole 4 - Probably will skip it to help flow and safety
Hole 5 - Normal. Road is OB
Hole 6 - Normal with no mandos.
Hole 7 - Normal. Road right is OB. After this hole you walk the path in front of you instead of to the right that would normally go to hole 8
Hole 7b - 85% sure we are going to use this. This will be an island hole with some sort of drop zone if you do not make the island. After this hole, you walk the path/road to the right down to Hole 8.

Hole 8 - Normal. Road is safe.
Hole 9 - Normal. Road is a river. Both sides are safe. When you get down towards the basket and go over the road long past where it T's or Y's, over that road is OB.
Hole 10 - Will have a shortened pin - 321'. Road OB. May use longer pin for other round.
Hole 11 - Normal. Any road OB. Will have a Mando marked that you must stay left off to keep you off of Hole 12's fairway. DZ will be marked for missed mando.
Hole 12 - Shortened pin that will be elevated on a tree stump. 225'. Any road OB. Same tree as Hole 11 will be a mando, must stay left of mando, DZ marked.
Hole 13 - Alternate new pin that is more straight then right. 245'. Any road OB. Probably will have a mando right to stay off of Hole 14 fairway.
Hole 14 - Normal Any road OB.
Hole 15 - Normal Any road OB.
Hole 16 - Normal Any road OB.
Hole 17 - New pin that is longer - 354'. May use normal short pin in different round. Any road OB.
Hole 18 - Normal, Any road OB.

All roads that are OB are 'On and Beyond' meaning if you are on the road you are OB, if you go over the road, even to grass, you are OB as you went 'beyond' the road.

In this setting - Par 55.  This layout is noticeably easier than Jackson Park Open last March.  It uses the more traditional layout of Jackson Park with the exception of removing hole 4 and adding Hole 7b for flow and safety reasons.

Going from memory, I think it was 14-15 or so, in that general area. I had to make a conscious decision to throw an easy-to-see disc on my tee shot.

Grass was mowed very well this week.  Only long grass is on the very steep hill near Hole 13.  It was requested to keep this grass long to slow down discs rolling down the hill.

If you never been to a Maverick DG tournament, this is what you can expect.

Modest entry fees. Personally, I would rather play 3-$30 tournaments than 2 - $45 tournaments. Or, 3 - $20 tournaments then 2 - $30 tournaments. So I price my tournaments to what I would want to play in. To be upfront, with lower entry fees come a somewhat reduced payout. However, the payouts are fair and are always greater than what the PDGA standard is.

Choice of payouts for Ams. I carry a mixed bag. I think most people do too.  So, I carry Innova, Discmania, Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, Westside, Discraft, MVP, Legacy and even a random Gateway or Vibram occassionally. Soon I will be carrying Hyzerbomb. Priced at normal retail, not escalated tournament pricing.

Ace funds are always for product. Some like it, some don't. Just so you know. If you hit an Ace, the payout is either for a nice bag (i.e. Grip Eq, Lat64 Luxury, Hyzerbomb Flak, DD Ranger) or for a practice basket(s) such as Innova Sport, etc. Each tournament is clearly noted what the giveaway is for that tournament. If no Ace is hit, we do a modified ace run / ctp-ish type of game. Either way, the prizes are going home with someone.

About 80% of the time, there are 'Win your card, win a prize'. Personally, I love these so I add them to tournaments that I run. Usually they are the second round so the cards are more even skill level. I'm starting to experiment with a CTP per card instead. Just for fun for a different experience - mix it up.

I usually target the outlying courses that are not used a whole lot. Again, something Maverick-ish. (BTW - I live on Maverick Lane which is where I got the name Maverick DG)

I can accept cash, cards for swiping, or PayPal.

Maverick Disc Golf's first B-Tier:

This is actually two events on the same weekend, same course.

Saturday, 10/10/15 is a B-Tier.  Course will be set with various pin locations and average a 'medium' seting.

Saturday Registration:  http://dgscene.com/WrangleWoodsHyzerbomb

Sunday, 10/11/15 is a C-Tier.  This will be a one rounder with every pin set long.

Sunday Registraion:  http://dgscene.com/WrangleWoodsReprise

Saturday will have $500 added cash to the PRO divisions.  MPO and FPO divisions are open even if one person registers.  In order to open up a second division, at least four players need to be in the requested division.  If less than four players are in a division at tee time, the divisions will collapse to the next closest division.

Saturday's Am Player's Pack will be one stock stamped Hyzerbomb disc, Maverick dri-fit tee shirt, nice reusable plastic pint cup, and one free drink at Hog Holler (good for one tap beer, well drink, or pop).

Player packs for all Amateurs. Advanced and Intermediate divisions will have added merchandise payouts beyond player packs. Recreational and Junior divisions are Player Pack only.

Sunday: Pro divisions will pay 100% of net entries.  Rec and Junior ams will receive a $17 voucher.  Advanced and Intermediate will have no player packs and 100% of net entries paid as merchandise credit.  (Net entry fee = Entry fee - PDGA fee which is $2 per person for C-Tiers).

Optional Saturday Meal:
For Saturday, Hog Holler is running a special of pulled pork sandwich, beans, potatoe salad and drink for $8.  Normally, just a sandwich and fries is $8.  So, the potatoe salad is substituted for fries (for quicker serving) + beans and drink for free with the special.  You can preorder your meal during registration to pay for it all at once.

Sunday meal?  Probably not due to the start time. (See Below)

Saturday check in: 8 - 8:45am.  Player meeting at 8:45.  Tee time will be set at player meeting.

Sunday check in: 9:30 -  10am.  Player meeting at 10 am.  Tee time will be set at player meeting.  While not confirmed yet, I'm presumming the kitchen will be open after the round if you want to order some food.

Camping - Longview campground closes 10/1/15.  However, Slough Creek campground, a Corp of Engineers facility will be open until 10/15/15.  Camping is $12 - $18 depending on what hook ups you need.  I did check the place out - the tent area is pretty cool and overlooks the lake.
http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Locations/DistrictLakes/PerryLake/Camping.aspx

ACE FUND & RULES:
Saturday: Instead of $ payout, a Hyzerbomb Flak Bag will be given for the Ace Fund. If no ace is hit, a CTP will be done after 2nd rnd to determine winner. If more than 1 ace, then only those players will do CTP. When 41 players opt for Fund, a 2nd bag will be given.
No ace fund for Sunday - it will all be set extra long.

The first tournament at Longview - the Longview Open - was my tournament that sold out the fastest.
While I don't want to hype it up, with the extra cash, nicer player pack, probably nicer weather, ability to camp and play a third round on Sunday, you may want to consider signing up early for this one.

Thanks,

Rob Martin
