General Banter / Re: Masters
« on: March 13, 2013, 12:27:23 PM »
Just from my point of view when organizing and running an event, i like to treat all of the cash winning divisions the same, which is why they have the same entry fee and the added cash is distributed proportionally through those divisions.  I never subtract added cash from the entry fees, I either raise the money from fundraising or a sponsor or I bite the cost.

I have played open, I am close to masters age and I have been running events for years and have heard many opinions about who should get the bulk of the money and what things should cost, but again by making my events as even as possible, it is clear what I am doing and there are no surprises.

I always say that I think you should play the division that you enjoy to play (within the requirements).  I in all honestly am looking forward to playing masters, mainly because from my observations, masters divisions do not look to be as stressful and they seem to have more fun with camaraderie.

Tournaments / Swope 1 Rounder March 23rd, 2013
« on: March 12, 2013, 03:31:46 PM »
I would like to invite you to the next edition of the 1 Rounder, being held at Swope Park on March 23rd, 2013.  This is a flex start event and will run from 9am and you must be tee off no later than 5pm.  The cost is $10 for each round and you can play Divisional Singles, Pick Your partner doubles or mixed doubles.

The Ace Pool will start at $94 plus whatever is added at the event.

I am going to trust that old man winter will leave us alone for this one :)

There will be a one rounder or two before then :)

When I enter scores in, I'm only selection course layout, not conditions.  When I submit the official report I will mention those conditions, not sure what that changes though

I dont think you would have finished, but it was not about just your card finishing.  All of the cards would have had to finish including the groups with 9 more holes to go with very little daylight left.

The Kan-U-Wyco was an interesting day.  I was forced to cut the second round short and as per PDGA rules, finish the tournament based on the first round scores only.  It was a difficult decision and one I have never had to make in the 16 years I have been running events.  I made the call, because I do not believe we had even close to enough time to finish.  The last strike was at 5:20 which would have meant assuming at that time there were no more strikes, the players could go back plus another 10-15 minutes to allow players to get to their holes and acclimated.  Most groups had anywhere from 5-9 holes left with less than 30 minutes of possible lighted play.

I have always said i was pretty blessed with the weather I have had with my events over the years but this was the one that reminded how sucky the playing conditions could get.  Otherwise I think the event was going well and things seemed to be operating as they should.

Here are the results for the 1 Rounder Kan-U-Wyco

Again if you have any concerns, comments or complaints, please message me and I would be happy to talk to you more about it.

Thanks

And just because I like to keep people on their toes, we are back to playing just 18 holes per round.  This should make for a slightly quicker day :)

Don't forget Sunday March 10th is Daylight Savings Time, so set your clocks accordingly

It was my initial idea to have both courses to allow for more player, but also to allow for a smoother run event with less on each card, especially for those playing Wyco as well, it would make for a quicker event.  I made those plans before knowing what the weather would do or knowing for sure what the conditions would be like.

The more I have thought about it, i agree that Down Under would be very sloppy with the natural tee pads and possibly unsafe conditions, especially down the slows off the fairways.  It is my decision to only play up top now and not to play the down under course.  I am very concerned with the safety of that course in wet conditions with the melting snow this week and possible rain this weekend.

I am truly sorry to those who were looking forward to playing both courses.  Although, I am certain we will still have a high quality event with a full field.  With this decision, the event is full at 94 players which as now means we have will have a ghost card along with the full field.

If you have any questions, please contact me and I will be happy to discuss.

Sounds good, we will go with that.  I will be out there on Friday also,.

Thanks

Yes, there will be a Pool A and Pool B and both will play both courses.  The Pools will flip flop.

its tournament week and things are going well.  If you are playing either day, you can come and check in at the DDKC store Friday or you can wait until the morning of the event.

As of now we are looking at pretty nice weather this week so hopefully most of the snow is gone, however, I am sure it will be sloppy so be prepared for wet feet.

The layout is set for the event and we will be playing both the top and Down Under course to allow for split groups and a faster speed of play for the event.

We should have the two additional holes decided by Friday, if not before.

Hopefully I will have more on them after the next board meeting.  I know the dates have changed from there but as soon as I know I will get it posted.
