Like I said earlier I am new to all of this, so I am not trying to come across as being sarcastic when I ask why can't all of what you would consider local courses be used in tournaments each year?  I haven't followed the tournament scene closely and will in 2013 as I look to play in some, but in looking at some of the more recent tournaments that encompass 2-4 courses in one weekend tournament it would seem that you would be able to incorporate all the courses in a matter of 10 tournaments.  Just trying to learn about it all.  Thanks.

Being one of the new people to disc golf in the area I thought I would contribute to this discussion.  I think it would be great to look at holding tournaments at different courses around the area, outside of the usual suspects.  Me personally, as I attempt to learn the game and continue to practice I play 90% of my rounds at the closest course to me.  I want to spend as much time at the course rather than traveling to a different course.  I still will make an effort to get out for a weekend round every now and then to try out a new course but I have enough challenges being a beginner play on my "Home course" as is and am not always up for adding the new challenge of learning a new course into the mix.  I feel like I am probably not alone in this but if a tournament was held at more of the outlier courses around the metro you may get more new/beginner players out to play in these.  If it weren't for the RAC, I'm not sure when my first tournament play would've been, it didn't matter that I had only been to Rosedale once before, it was a tournament encouraging players like me to get out.  But if a tournament was held at my home course (Legacy) I would have been confident long before the RAC to play in it.  For me I don't think a tough course would discourage me from playing in a tournament, its being unfamiliar with the course in general, easy or hard, that would keep me from playing until I got a few tournaments under my belt and was more confident in playing tournaments.  Anyway, all I can say is design and build away!  I'll eventually get out and play them all.  P.S.  Has a tournament ever been held at Legacy, and while talking about land and potential additional courses, Legacy has it as well.

Tournaments / Re: 16th Rosedale Amateur Championships Is October 14

Just wanted to thank everyone involved in putting together this tournament.  My friend and I have played disc golf for less than a year now and we have never played in any leagues or tournaments because we just didn't have the confidence to participate in a formal setting, we rarely keep score when we are out playing, and we just don't know how we would stack up talent wise.  But this tournament provided a great opportunity to see where we fit in with other Amateurs in the area and to learn the formal rules of disc golf.  It was also great to meet so many other players in the area and begin to become integrated into the community.  My buddy Chris placed 5th and I took 7th in Am 3 so that was also a plus to the experience.  Also having gotten a great dose of Rosedale we will be back to play it more.  We had only played 2 rounds out there between us prior to the tournament.  Now that I have tournament #1 under my belt I look forward to seeing you all out there in the future!

Smithville / First Trip - Awesome Time

Me and a buddy made the journey to Paradise Pointe today from Lee's Summit, and it was well worth it.  Of course this great weather can make doing anything outdoors seem incredible, but we had a blast playing.  We played all of Beaver Creek and as beginners we really enjoyed the course layout.  It allowed us to try a variety of our discs and different shots without being punished, while mixing in a few technical holes for good measure.  I actually enjoyed the circle tee pads, would love them if they were a bit bigger as I am rather tall and take longer strides, but I like the ability to approach at different angles and have room to work with.  The lack of signs really didn't bother me, aren't too many blinds shots, and when I play holes with signs I still walk the hole to see the basket anyway.

Next we headed over to Wood Henge to test our stamina, like I said we are newbies and have only played more than 18 holes in a day a couple times.  We made it through 12 holes, but the 720ft and 660ft holes forced us to throw in the towel, plus we were starving otherwise we would've finished up that course.  Overall I really enjoyed the layout, the upkeep and the variety that the complex offers.  We were both more than happy to pay $5 for a car to experience the complex.  Also the recent lack of rain has dropped the lake levels way down which made the water holes less intimidating than I thought they would be. 

Thanks to all those involved in the creation of the complex.  Can't wait to head up and play again.

I agree with this.  I was in STL a few weeks ago and made the long drive to Sioux Passage.  We had just teed off on hole 1 when a group of 4 guys showed up and unpleasantly informed us we were not allowed on the course.  I gave a slight laugh thinking he was joking to which he responded, " No seriously course is closed for a tournament." There were 5 cars in the lot and they were they only players there, no signing indicating a tournament etc. I understand tournaments are going to happen but at the least they could've asked us to go to the back 9 to play back there, or at the VERY minimum been pleasant about it.

In my 6 months of disc golf experience in KC I have had, on multiple occasions, people give my friends discs and bags when it was obvious they were borrowing gear.  Also I have had solo players that were far better than our group ask to join us and give us pointers rather than keeping their head down and just playing through.

Granted my STL experience is limited to one day, I have yet to experience anything similar to that in KC.

I feel like a lot were set long when I played it and it was pretty tough.  I loved the hole that followed the creek and had the pin up on the rocks above the creek. It would be a crazy hole after a lot of rain and the creek was flowing.

It is a blast.  I need to get a review posted on the course review site.  With this being it's first summer open I hope a lot of people find out about it.  Kevin, did you see anywhere they could potentially put in another 8 holes to get a complete 18? I didn't spend much time looking around the park, but I hope it's possible.

I did a forum search and couldn't believe no one has posted about this course.  For those of you who make weekend lake trips you must check this out.  It is located in Camdenton right off Business 5 in their city park. It is 10 holes of heavily wooded, light ground growth, extreme hiking awesomeness with some very unique pin placements. First course I've played with a warning to skip ahead on the course if you aren't prepared for the terrain ahead.  I will be posting a few short videos and some pictures in the near future.  Let me know if you have played it and your thoughts.

General Banter / New Player Intro

Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself as a new member of the forum and to the sport of disc golf.  I was introduced to the game by forum member Cro and have been playing for a few months now and have a few dozen rounds under my belt.  I have since been able to get another half dozen friends hooked as well. I live about 5 minutes from Legacy so I consider it my home course but look forward to playing all the courses that KC has to offer. Once I get a few more rounds of experience I hope to make it out to league night at legacy and playing a few tournaments as well.  Can't wait to meet you all out there!
