Found and Lost / LOST: Orange soft cooler @ Swope
« on: April 11, 2013, 02:55:30 pm »
Left my orange soft cooler/lunchbox on the Swope clubhouse porch the other night. There was no beer left in it but it is still a handy cooler. If anyone has seen it, please let me know. Thanks!

I took a "12" on #12 during Cliff Drive league once, through a combination of road OBs and going all the way down the hill to the right. IIRC, it was a drive OB, another OB from DZ, then a pissed-off lefty hyzer throw from DZ that went high and blew to the bottom of the hill, several attempts to get back up the hill that hit trees and rolled back down, then finally a successful throw to get up the hill that overshot the fairway and went back OB, then a missed OB putt, then finally a hole out. Yes, it was infuriating.
Player's Cup on hole 1. The strokes didn't count so I Tin Cupped the approach shot.

The hole was a huge drive to a lay up area. Then you could either play safe and go the long way around, or pump a huge hyzer shot over the OB and try to drop it on the well-protected green. I opted for the latter. My first drive (1) landed perfectly at the lay up area. Approach attempt 1 (2) missed. So did attempts 2 (4), 3 (6), 4 (8), 5 (10), 6 (12), 7(14), but I made it on attempt 8 (16). I then missed my putt (17) and had a drop in for an 18. Mr. Williams, already pissed off took a 4 and won the hole. I never conceded the hole to him and that pissed him off more than the amount of time it took me to reach the green.

Hmm, should I not help staff the WO this year, and spend my time heckling that Williams dude instead? I could video it.

Mike, you have got some funny posts.    I can hear Mike now saying,  " Hey Williams, you suck Jackass" and "nice shooting soldier"  "just send it home, are you to good for your home, go home".

After much thought and careful consideration, I don't think heckling Mr. Williams or even talking to him at all would be necessary. Rather, I think simply following him closely while video recording with my phone may elicit the Youtube moment we're looking for. If he asks why I'm following him and recording video with my phone, I'll just pretend to be a deaf mute by making funny faces, shaking my head, shrugging my shoulders, and gesturing toward my mouth with my free hand. Picture that, you know it's funny.

I am still trying to figure this all out. I am slowly creeping up to a year playing, if you count winter time where I did not throw a disc. I usually look where I want to throw it, say a silent prayer and throw. Does it work? Heck no! I try to watch the vets throwing and I tend to ask a lot of questions, which can probably get annoying. I need to find this Church of the Flying Disc God!

Something I think helps develop your throwing is to play catch. Another thing that will improve your game fast is to take all your discs and go throw them out in an open filed such as a soccer field or baseball field. Playing rounds doesn;t give you enough reps to learn how to make the discs go where you want them to.

This. But doing the field thing takes dedication-- let's face it, that's booooring compared to playing an actual round --but perhaps that dedication makes the difference between an average player and an exceptional one.

I thought your next post would be a picture of it in the back of your truck.

Ha, that'd be sweet. Bow season opens 9/15, will have to wait til then. Mmm, backstraps...

I believe Hinck has it right when it comes to having confidence in your own technique. There's so many different styles if you watch the pros. Different grip, different speed of run-up, different reach-back, different follow-through. On putts: different grip, different stance, different loft, different spin, etc. I think people do what works for them and what feels natural and it translates to better results for some than for most others. I'm in the most others boat. ;D

Matty O shot a 43 @ Cliff!!!!????  ..................or................Matty O COULD have shot a 43 if he didn't get a 5 on his last hole......which is it?

Thank you Mike

Either way, Matty O remains the only disc golfer to shoot a 45 at Cliff. I'm sure there have been a few non-disc golfers who've shot 45s at Cliff. ;D

Swope / Re: Swope Gold Wide Open 2013

looking like this for the version this year....
Swope-
1-Double Mando-Long Position Key Hole OB
2-Short-Need hay bales, OB circle around the green, and bales to force placement shot-Bales 3 High
3-Long pin before road, Keyhole OB style
4-Holes #4-5 long, ob tighter than last year all along the right, inside of #5 bench
5-first hole by house, road OB, and to the right, "water OB", no double mando, long pin
6-Tee by stop sign road entrance to zoo, straight shot back green drop off-(We need a pad poured here)
7-teeing by fence, open fairway towards pin last year, using "water" OB-pin placement moved (Pad & Pin needed)
8-tee by light pole, OB right-(Pad & Pin needed)-Trees need to be raised
9-6 Short
10-7 Island Rules, Double Mando
11-8 Long-OB Clubhouse area
12-Tee #9 to #11 Blue Pin-Mando Tree to left
13-#12 to pin by the road behind rock
14-#13 Long, OB teeing from "island" rules, DZ=Short Pad if not inbounds
15-#14 long Pad to #15 island
16-Tee from Gregory corner to long #16 pin, OB aligns the fairway (need pad)
17-to #15 Blue placement
18-Short pad to #10 Blue placement, OB aligns the fairway

Rocks are ON
PDGA Tent by #3 long all weekend...

Final 9
1
2
3
4 (to 5)
5-7
6-8
7-9 Short (need to move pin)
8-14 long pad to long pin #14 (need to move pin)
9-18 Long pad-Blue placement (need to move pin) OB will be on sides, but not behind pin, it will align with the regular SWG13.

This isn't set in stone yet, but it is pretty darn close to what this is going to be looking like.

Dang, Timko sure did a nice job designing that layout! ;D

Could've sworn Matty O's Worlds round at Cliff was a 45. (Still huge and very impressive.) And that was with taking a 5 on Hole #1.
