Thank you for the helpful reply Jack.  I have only lived here for 2 years so I don't have the back-story on many of the ins and outs of why things are the way they are.  I for one am genuinely bothered (or upset) that the KCWO is not a NT this coming year.  My hopes would be that our event is SO attractive to all levels of pro disc golfers (because of the quality of courses, the involvement of the DG community, and the level of sponsorship) that it is a no brainer the KCWO is ALWAYS a NT event.  I view this as a demotion (that's just the competitive part of me coming out) and that another city has pulled their event together in such a way that they were deemed more capable of nailing a NT event.  I have been to the GBO the last 2 years and while I personally love the DD people (all the one's I have met, including Scott here in KC, have been incredible people), their stores, and some of their products, there is no way I could honestly say the courses they use in Emporia are better than the courses we have in KC.  I guess this speaks to the fact that these tournaments are much more than just courses the pros/ams play; it's all the intangibles (or tangibles depending on how you look at it) such as money, sponsors, environment, swag, atmosphere...whatever you want to throw in there.  I wish no ill will on the GBO (that's stupid to even think that way) but I do hope that somehow WE (the dg community of KC) do a serious gut check and ask ourselves, as you have suggested, are we are willing to become so upset that the Wide Open is not a NT this year that we band together and take this thing to levels that demand national attention and serious considerations to be a NT every year.  Maybe I am out of line in my thinking (totally possible!!) but I am so proud of the disc golf heritage we have in this city and what we have to offer that I want KC to ALWAYS be a MUST NT every year.

Tournaments / KC Wide Open 2015 NOT to be a NT???
« on: September 22, 2014, 03:30:07 PM »
I just read a schedule for 2015 Majors and National Tour Elite Series and it appears that the Kansas City Wide Open will not be a NT in 2015.  Should I be shocked at this news??? Cuz I kinda am.  How in the world does the GBO (no disrespect to them for real) get to be a NT and the KCWO drops to what appears to be an A-tier tourney.  Again, I could be reading this all wrong (hopefully I am mistaken) but is this true?  Are they just looking to shake things up?  Is the GBO just that much better of a tourney?  Who's got the scoop?

Hey, that was my son who hit the ace!  He was there with his brothers and their cousin specifically because of the spinach festival and the fact that we heard there would be a "disc golf presence" there.  He had a disc full of signatures and I am sure he will never forget his 1st ace moment!  Thank you to all who helped make the demonstrations possible and for furthering the sport, we all appreciate it.

I was able to play birdland last night (first time in a while) and it looks incredible.  I don't know that I have ever seen a course installed from scratch look this good in just a short year and a half.  The pads, tee areas, tee signs, fairways, rough, next hole signs, baskets, multiple pin locations, etc. etc. IT ALL LOOKS AWESOME!  It's one heck of a course!  Great job to all those involved from the start until now, you have done one bang up job, WELL DONE!

Longview - Perry Lake - Ozawkie, KS / Re: Perry Lake, Longview

I saw that as well robm.  Unfortunately Longview is just far enough off the beaten path that there is no regular conversation about course conditions to be found on the interwebz.  Very unlucky for us because it is such a great piece of land and such a good course...if it is being taken care of.  Last year I went on a whim (around this time) and when I got there the grass was very high and the ivy/oak was out of control in some fairways.  I posted on Topeka's fb page, hopefully someone has an update cuz I want to spend some time out there real soon!

Hello everyone, I'll post this in "general banter" since there hasn't been activity on the "Longview" thread in 8+ months.  Anyone have a current update on course condition (grass mowing, fields of ivy and oak in the fairways that was there last summer, etc)?  I love the course and want to play it soon, but I don't want to drive all that way if it has not been maintained.  Thanks for any info you may have.

General Banter / Re: Best 3 courses in town?
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:21:10 PM »
In order of awesomeness:
1a.  Water Works
1b.  Blue Valley (***disclaimer:  This course is epic in so many ways.  It is long, grueling, big elevation, beautiful, and challenging but it is not for everyone.  People in town either love it or hate it and most of those who don't like it mention length as their biggest detractor)  You'll have to decide whether length is something you like in a disc golf course.  If it is still available, you can get the hole lengths and layout for this and several other courses at the Kansas City Wide Open website, which could prove helpful as you are new to these courses.
2.  Smithville Lake Complex (Woodhenge and Blackthorn only)
3.  Cliff Drive
4.  Birdland (Lakeside Hills)
5.  Wilbur Young
6.  Swope
7.  Rosedale Down Under ONLY  (IMO the upper course is underwhelming, usually trashy, not worth the playing time if you only have two days in KC [not trying to be offensive, this is just my opinion])
8.  WyCo
9.  Legacy

There are many other good courses in town but these are my favorite....for right now.  Enjoy your time in KC and have fun!

Found and Lost / Lost Yellow Underworld at S.M. #17
« on: May 20, 2014, 03:35:57 PM »
I lost my beloved Underworld on hole #17 @ S.M. Park this afternoon.  I threw it right smack dab in the front of the treeline straight off the teepad.  I guess I need to work on my turnover shots a bit more ;)    It is Yellow with no flight plate stamp (you can still see the Underworld stamp impression though), no other ink on the disc.  I would greatly appreciate the kind soul that returns it.  You can PM me or I'll check this thread over the next week or so.

Lakeside Hills / Re: Hole Distances
« on: May 08, 2014, 08:43:23 AM »
First let me say that hole 12 in the long position is freakin' awesome, I love it.  With that, I can't see any way possible getting a birdie on that hole unless it is a lucky second shot over the treeline that crashes the chains, or very lucky shot through a 5' wide low ceiling tunnel.  Either way they are not putts on the second shot, they are throws.  This would lead me to believe it is more of a par 4.  Just my thoughts and opinion, but like I said, I love Birdland and I love the new pin positions.
