That was one of the best news pieces I have ever seen on disc golf, well done.  Mpls is a hot bed of dg and a great place to visit.

Awesome, thank you for clarifying that.  I just received an email from Rick and will wait for him to verify and then I'll head on down to DGW to pick up my tag.

You might have better luck posting this question on the Kansas Disc Golf Association's forums.

Thanks Phisherman.  Luckily I just received a text from a friend who confirmed it is mowed and ready to play!

General Banter / Perry Lake UPDATE?
« on: July 22, 2013, 04:17:13 PM »
Hey gang, I was wondering if anyone made it out to Perry Lake this past weekend?  I have a few buddies coming in town and want to make the trip ONLY if I can verify that they have been CUTTING AND TRIMMING THEIR GRASS AND FAIRWAYS.  I was out there about a month ago and it was a little on the ridiculous side.  I love the course, but don't want to waste a 2 hours round trip if it isn't mowed.   Thanks for any help.

I know that Keen Delavegas are one of the best disc golf shoes out there, but I don't have that kind of money spend right now.  I would like to get a new pair of shoes that will be rugged enough to stand up to the rigors of DG and will be comfy.  Which shoes do you own and/or recommend?  Which ones should I stay away from?  I am thinking in the $60.00-$80.00 price range!  I would save a while longer to get the Delavegas, but would like to get a new pair before August.

Thanks,

Van

Depending on what size you are looking for, I may have an option for you that will fit your budget.  I bought a pair of KEEN Siskiyou Waterproof Proof Trail Shoes last fall, wore them about 5-6 times on the course and they are just too short (if you know about KEEN shoes they tend to run a size small).  Since I wore them outside I can no longer take them back.  They are in EXCELLENT shape and they are no good to me.  I was getting ready to put them on Dollar Disc Auction but if you would be interested in saving a ton of cash on some excellent shoes, I'll sell them to you for $50.  I wore insoles so the insides haven't even been touched by me feet ;D  Lemme know if you are interested and I can meet up with you somewhere.  They are size  US 12 but I would recommend them for someone who wears 11 or 11.5.

I think it necessary to commend and thank the Board for welcoming me (and others) into their monthly meeting last evening.  They were beyond open to the conversation of pay to play (this does not mean they endorse or want pay to play, but they were willing to listen and give next 'action steps' for myself).  Thank you KCFDC for your hospitality and your professionalism in last nights meeting, you are all doing an incredible job serving this disc golf community and the KC metro p&r's.

I think more than anything it just shows what a well-funded parks department can accomplish.

Wanted to say thank you for everyone's input, suggestions, and feedback.  I know things that are out of the norm can sometimes bring a host of feelings (both good and bad), but I look forward to the opportunity to explore what a pay to play system could mean for our city and its courses.  Who knows, this could be the worst idea I've ever had and may prove non-beneficial for all of us, AND I am completely fine with that outcome if it is the best for KCFDC, our local players, and the greater community.  Conversely, we may stumble onto something in our searching that unlocks potential that we didn't know was there, and to that, I would be fine with as well.  I look forward to meeting more of you as I continue to play at a couple of the leagues out my way, and I also look forward to more conversations about ANYTHING that may advance our sport in this fine city!

You have been on this board 5 months, and you want to do a feasibility study to make some of the courses that are already built and in use, to convert them to pay to play. I say BS.

Allow me to introduce myself formally.  My name is Perry Martin, I moved from Chicago (lived there 13 years) to KC (Olathe) exactly 1 year ago this month.  I have 3 boys (5 through 11 yrs of age) and I have been married for 13 years.  I found the sport of disc golf 5 years ago, and like many of you, fell in love with it my first time out.  I love this game, this city (which is originally my hometown), and like you want to maximize the true value of what we have been blessed with...which is potentially the greatest concentration of top level disc golf courses of any greater metro area in the U.S.
I am sorry that I've only been commenting over the last 5 months, but over the last year I have been trying to re-establish my family in a new home, new community, new schools, and all of this through a career change.  I am now trying to find myself a "place" within the Kansas City disc golf community where I can enjoy the sport and where I can also leverage some of my personal talents if they were to ever be welcomed, needed, or beneficial so that I can be a small part in advancing disc golf in KC.
I am sorry for your cynicism; if we were to have met personally I would hope that you would see me as someone who has a genuine desire to work WITH those who are already a part of the disc golf scene in our city, not against them.  I can not help the amount of time that I have lived here and the amount of time that I have been able to contribute on this forum.  I do however hope that I can find a niche, a place to settle in, a place to contribute that leverages my personal talents that may add to the strength of the greater disc golf cause in Kansas City.

Are there any KCFDC board members that frequent the sight that would be open to some serious exploration into a 2-3 course pay to play system?  I am willing to partner with a group of individuals to do a feasibility study and a comparison study of other pay to play courses to see if this might be something that benefits our disc golf community.  Or maybe a valid study has recently taken place?  I would love to see the data that was gathered for that if at all possible for learning purposes.
I would like to say that I have no bias as to what courses would be suggested for this type of system, I only have a bias towards creating better disc golf for our city.
