General Banter / Perry Lake Question
« on: June 26, 2013, 05:58:42 pm »
Hey gang, sorry if there is a better place to post this, I am a little unsure where questions like this are best asked.  I am wanting to go to Perry Lake on friday june 28th but want to make sure that it is playable (as far as mowing upkeep and the heavy tick situation).  Has anyone been very recent, and if so, how would you describe it's current condition?  Thank you for any insight.  I don't want to make a 45 minute trip if it is not being maintained and playable.

In an email conversation with the parks assistant director Monday morning, he said they hope to start constructing boxes by July 1. He also said he has some other enhancements in the works for the course.   8)

Please share these "enhancements" if you can!! ;D

Drove by late this evening and didn't see any new pads or prep for pads.  I'm patiently waiting ::) and hoping they magically get put in before the end of July.  I have 8 buddies flying in from all over the country for 4 days of non-stop dg and I was hoping to put this course on the list but if there are no pads it will not make the cut.  I will be pretty bummed if we can't play Lakeside!!

Speaking of shaggy courses....look no further than Lakeside Hills.  Shaggy, swampy, tick infested......

Only if you don't play the fairways!!   ;D

I'm working on getting the DR out there for holes 10 & 11.  Other than those, holes 3,4 & 16 are bad if you miss the 70' wide fairways...

Agree fully.  For this being the very initial season of play at Lakeside I feel it is in stellar condition.  It's honestly playing a little better than I expected this early in it's existence.  Olathe P&R is keeping it mowed real nice and the little tweaks that have been taking place over the last month or so have only made it better.  Now, if only we could get that freakin' practice basket back in it's rightful spot!!  Thieves are dumb >:(

Top 5:

1.  Water Works
2.  Blue Valley
3.  Cliff
4.  Woodhenge
5.  Wyco

Honorable mention (way more interesting conversation IMO)

-Lakeside Hills (Lake Olathe) (Birdland)
-Pleasant Hill
-SMP (it's always peaceful, well kept, family young one's love this course)

Most over-rated courses in KC:

lol, I wouldn't touch this subject with a 10 ft pole.  But, you know I'm looking at you...course that I think is WAY over-rated.

Found and Lost / I lost my precious pinky!

While playing leagues at Lakeside (Birdland) on Monday 6/4/2013 I lost my precious pinky to the right of the pin (eastside), in the long stuff on hole #16.  She is a pink Force w/ white lettering and I just bought her a week ago.  Needless to say I am sad and already miss her.  She does not have my name and number on her but I would appreciate it if the kind soul who finds her will give me the opportunity to reunite with her.  Please pm me if you find it and karma will quickly find its way to you!  Thanks ;D

Hey Tom, I have class on Monday nights off and on (which is why I wasn't at PC tonight).  Is there a way to pick up my winnings (from the night of April 29th) throughout the week or how is it best to collect?  Just wondering, thanks.

General Banter / Re: stolen basket

I know (per Tom) that these particular baskets are the only set in town like them, so it will be easier to identify it if found, however this has me thinking.  Is there a way for each course to engrave some sort of serial number (or marking) in an inconspicuous place on the basket (could be anywhere like a certain piece of metal on the underside of the basket, or a place on the pole etc.) so that there is a definite way of identifying baskets that may have been stolen?  Engravers are not that expensive and if the city and course director are the only one's who know where the engraving is, this may be a very easy way to check any suspicious baskets in the city.  I know this will not stop people from stealing baskets but if they do not know that these baskets have been specifically 'marked' this makes it easier to reclaim what is ours if they are found.  On a side note, I hope there is a stiffer punishment for stealing city property and that the douche bag who stole it is made an example out of.  Not prison or anything like that, but maybe every single member of the club gets to line up and give him a shot to the nuts with their steel-toed Kodiak work boots!!

But it's no Zombie Dust.

Zombie Dust is my #1 delight.  I lived 40 minutes from 3 Floyd's and almost every bar in Chicago had several of their beer's on tap at any given time.  I moved here to KC last summer and the thing I miss most about Chicago is all the great, local, fresh, craft beer.  If anyone has any suggestions for local (regional) crafts that remotely enter the league of 3 floyd's please share :)

Any idea where I could find hole distances?  I've looked on here and the facebook page, but can't find any info.

I like to, at a minimum, light up a driver, a mid, and a putter myself.

I typically light up two or three drivers, a mid, and a putter though.

I have a few lights left i can sell tonight. They come in two packs for $3, so you could light up four discs for $6. The lights usually last me about 5 or 6 rounds. If you use them just once or twice and remember to turn them off, they would probably keep and be usuable next fall a few rounds too.

We sign up at 5:45 and draw partners at 6:00 if ya wanna come.

Thank you for the info.  I made it home a little late tonight, but I plan on trying to get involved with the dg scene out in Olathe area (moved from out of state less than a year ago).  I will look for some lights next time i'm at DD or DGW and keep them handy, night round sound like a ton of fun.  Take care, hope to see you on the course soon.
