New Players Disc Golf League

When: Monday Evenings Sign-up at 5:00pm Tee Time 5:30pm
Where: Rosedale Disc Golf Course
What:  A free Developmental League for players of all Skill levels, including Women and young adults.

If you’ve ever wanted to play Disc Golf in an organized setting but, didn’t think your skills where up to Par then this is the league for you.  This league is geared towards developing your skills in a competitive setting while having a good time.  We will be recording everyone progress with scores and averages so you can see how you improve.  It is open to anyone and everyone, with prizes for most improved average, most attendance and other fun prizes.   There is no cost to play, however we will have a season long ACE pot that is an optional $1.  Come join us this year starting March 10th 2008 at 5:00pm and visit www.kcfdc.org for more details, or contact Steve Harris at 816-985-1884.

Update to a date change!!!  I would like to move the workday to the 15th of March.  I need a little more time getting some of things we talked about at the EC meeting ready before I have a full workforce out there.  I hope this doesn't affect too many people, and I'm sorry if it does.  I plan on having at least one workday per month this year so keep your eyes out for this forum.

What:  Rosedale Work Day
When:  March 15th 2008 10am - 1pm
Who:  Everyone I hope

If you can plan on attending that would be wonderful.  Plans are to have a crew finish spreading out the rest of the Mulch on some of the more muddier areas.  Crews with chainshaws will be doing some trimming of trees, especially the ones with the sharp needles on them.  The rest of us will be starting to clean up the deadwood off the fairways in the woods.

I'm hoping to have a definite answer as to where we can stage all this wood, for chipping, but the idea is to help produce our own mulch instead of buying it.  I'll be updating this post after the EC meeting and perhaps a talk with Parks and Rec. 

Please remember to bring gloves, and safety glasses especially if you are planning to operate any kind of mechanical tools.  Rakes, shovels, pickaxes, chainsaws, handsaws any type of tool you think would be useful bring it.  Anyone who has a truck is always welcome.

It's going to be a great year at Rosedale and I hope to see you all out there!

I like that name too!  Even though doing a restoration doesn't mean it has to be completely run down Preservation may be just what Rosedale needs. 

Glover, I'm sorry but the meeting has been scheduled for almost two weeks at 3 and I'd hate to change it now.  If the DU league runs until 4:30 we are probably still going to be around so you could still participate if you wish.

Reminder we are still planning on doing the walkthrough this Saturday.  It's supposed to be fairly warm that day.  As far as doing some work out there John I honestly hadn't really planned on it but of course if there is some stuff that we could get done while we have a group, and everyone wants to work by all means lets do it.  I don't know how long our discussion will last and we're still fighting for more daylight, so if it's ok let's play that by ear.

Rosedale / Rosedale Walkthrough 2-16-08

Hello everyone.  My name is Dennis Freeman and I am your new Rosedale Course Coordinator for 2008.  It looks like there is a lot of energy available to shower KC's favorite course with lots of love.  We are off to a good start with ideas, and plans to make Rosedale a better course for 2008 and for the 2009 Worlds competitions.  What I would like to do is have a group of dedicated and inspired people come out to the park on February 16th at 3:00pm to do a hole by hole walk through of sorts.

I need to have feedback from people, and visual ideas of what needs to be done, and what we'd like to get done on paper so I can present the EC with our group's ideas on the 20th at the first 2008 EC Meeting (held at DGW, contact Rick for full details).  We also need to come up with a catchy name for our group of supporters like the Rosedale Restoration Society or something.  I hope to see many of you there!

I like your idea Mike of keeping the front 9 closed and then switching it.  To do this we would need total support from the club, the city and the Rosedale league that would have to either take a long hiatus, play Down Under, or combo DU and the remaining 9 holes.

Just a reminder about the General Club Meeting and Elections on Tuesday evening:

Tuesday, January 29, 7 p.m. Westin Crown Center - Shawnee Room

This is an open meeting for all Kansas City Flying Disc Club Members (who must be active to run for
office and vote), as well as any other interested disc golfers. You can sign up for the club or renew
your membership at the meeting. The Westin is located at 1 East Pershing Rd. There is some free
parking on the Crown Center side of the complex. The Shawnee Room is on the Ballroom level. The
Brasserie Bar is the lobby level. The primary purpose of the meeting is to elect officers. (See minutes
on next page to see who is running so far.) Another call for nominations will precede the elections.
Other topics will include how to improve leagues, the 2009 Worlds, and the Wide Open.

I didn't really have a plan for it but Steve mentioned it would be something he'd like to see.  I just can't see how we'd be able to do that for all the multiple pin placements we are blessed with at Rosie.  But if there is a will I'm sure there is a way.

Another thing I thought of after my first post was Recycling containers.  I am not sure if it is feasible or not but if the club took the responsibility of recycling can's that money can re-used to offset the cost of printing scorecards/maps etc.

Several of those are must do's this spring especially repairing the stairs.  It was mentioned to me if we do replace the stairs with wood that we also apply some type of anti-slip treatment to the tops.

With painting of the sleeves I think we need to get more organized on pin placement configurations and developing some way for people to know how the course is set up whether that be at #1 or on a hole by hole  system.  I think with how some of the holes have more placement than others it may be easier to have some colored wood signs that we hang at each tee indicating colored location for the day.

I heard this weekend someone mention a way to permanently mark the 10 meter circle.  Any ideas if this is being done anywhere else in the country?

More workdays, with better communication.  Use the on course bulletin board.

More love for Rosie she been abused the last couple years.

Tournaments / Re: Ice Bowl - 2008

Word is going around 3:30pm on Saturday there will be workers getting the course into good shape for the Ice Bowl.  If you have a shovel, rake, two arms anything to help spread the mulch we'd all appreciate your help.

Now I know this is very last minute like under 24 hours last minute, but if you're not doing anything tomorrow and want to pitch in it would be great.  Plus Chris maybe by 3:30 the tees won't need shoveling because it may melt  .
