Liquid soap doesn't work.  Ticks can go several hours or more without oxygen, so suffocating them isn't a good method.  Use either tweezers, or special tick removing tools to remove them.

The best thing for tick prevention is a Permethrin based clothing spray.  Deet isn't very effective for ticks.  But Permethrin works very well.  Ticks will literally die just by coming in contact with clothing sprayed with Permethrin. 

This stuff is great.  Lasts a long time.

Where are you located?  I wouldn't mind taking a look at it.  I'm in Westport. 

If you're seeing the 30 second timer each time, it likely means it's trying to boot to Windows, but can't startup at all.  Which could be a number of different things.  It might be that the CMOS battery drained completely and reset your CMOS settings so your drive is in ATA mode instead of AHCI.  On some of those Dells, it had to be set to ATA for WinXP, and AHCI for Win7, and wouldn't run otherwise.  The Windows install might be corrupt.  I have some boot discs that can fix it if so.  It doesn't sound like the HD is mechanically dead, so in the worst case you could still hook the drive up to another computer and get your iTunes stuff off.

Found a white star Roadrunner at Rosie yesterday.  Found DU on #17, but I think it's just as likely that it was lost on #7 up top. 

Only thing on the disc is "WHORTON" spelled twice.
