After some deliberation, I have come up with the schedule/format for this 1st ever Bushwacker league in Kansas City.  Vitals are as follows.

  • League will run for 7 weeks.
  • We play on Monday.
  • Dates are from April 7 to May 21.
  • Each week costs $5.  $4 of that goes into the payout, and $1 goes to the club.  Ace fund is $1 and optional.  The entire $35 is due before you start play the 1st week!
  • As mentioned before, this is a handicapped league.  You will be randomly assigned a partner at the beginning of the league, and this partner will be your partner for the duration of the league.
  • Handicaps will be established on 80% of 48.  This means if you shoot a 58, your handicap will be 8.
  • Please attempt to make it to all the league nights.  In case you can't show up, you may elect to have someone outside the league sub for you.  Note that the reason I picked a really low scratch score (48) was to deter people as much as possible from doing this.  If you have a sub, they will play at scratch and have no handicap.
  • This league will travel from course to course.  Tentative schedule will be:
    • Swope
    • Rosedale (course to be determined by how many people play there that week)
    • Waterworks
    • Cliff Drive
    • Olathe
    • Shawnee Mission Park
    • Legacy Park (hopefully)
  • All money will pay out at the end of the league.  We will pay the top 4 teams.  I mentioned the payout breakdown in the original thread, you can look at it there
  • For this trial run of 7 weeks, I want to start small.  So only 8 teams.  16 players.

I think that's it for the information that I need to get out right now.  So, if you're game, please pm me and reserve your spot.  Get the word out during leagues this week, and hopefully we'll fill this thing by weeks end!

More information to come.

General Banter / Kansas City Bushwhacker's League Test
« on: February 23, 2008, 10:18:44 AM »
I mentioned running some sort of actual league (in leu of the mini's that we currently run).  As a test league, I would like to run this thing for 6 weeks, from the middle of march until the end of April.

The league is a random draw handicapped doubles league.  This means that the partner you draw at the beginning is your partner for the entire 6 weeks.  Handicaps get added at the end of the 2nd week.

Each week, you compete against one team.  The top rated player on team 1 plays the top rated player on team 2.  The lower rated players on team 1 plays the same on team 2.  The winner of each "match" based on a handicapped adjusted score gets a point.  The lowest cumulative team score with a handicap adjustment gets a point.  So you can win a total of 3 points each week.

The league I'm basing this on has subs and a sunday makeup league, but that won't be implemented for this test.  If you miss a week, you're team will most likely lose 2 points (one for your match, and 1 for the culm point).  I need people to commit for the full 6 weeks to see how much people like this format.

For the test, we'll pay out all the money at the end of the week.  Ace fund will be extra, and optional.

The ideal will be to make this a moving league from course to course, but for now, I think we'll pick between 1 or 2 courses.  Since this league will most likely coincide with another weekday league, we'll obviously not consider that course in the rotation.

So I'd like to hear what people have to say about this format.  I'm more than happy to run something like this, provided I can get some golfers to commit.

Tournaments / Tournament Sponsor
« on: February 15, 2008, 09:36:07 PM »
I just found out that Gorilla Boy Disc Sports will be offering up 10 tournament sponsorships this year.  Gorilla Boy is a company (actully, it's one guy named Chris) that makes some pretty nice disc golf bags.  I've been carrying one now for two years, and am quite impressed.  He's a really stand up guy who has a bit of a cult following on some of the discussion boards around the web.  So if you've got a small event going on this year, and are looking for some merchandise sponsorship, you should give him a shout.

his website is http://www.gorilla-boy.com/, and his email address is grlaboy@yahoo.com.

General Banter / PDGA registration though club?
« on: January 04, 2008, 03:06:29 PM »
How exactly does this work?  When I lived in both Arkansas and Iowa, our club wasn't pdga affiliated, so we weren't eligable for the discount.

Found and Lost / Lost Spirit at Blue Valley

I think I left it on the fairway of 17 yesterday.  Bright orange spirit with no name on it.  If you find it, I'd love to get it back.

General Banter / Moving to KC in June
« on: June 18, 2007, 11:39:58 AM »
My name is Chris, and I'll be moving to KC in June for a job.  I'm coming from Iowa City, IA, where I spent the past two years going to college (sort of) and developing both my disc golfing game and course building skills.  From what I understand, Kansas City has leagues that meet on a different night (or morning) on a particular course.  Are there other leagues that compete over a longer period of time?  For example, the biggest league in my area is a 4 month handicapped doubles thing.

Also, to whom would I get involved with to assist in the '09 worlds organization?  I'm not sure if you're going to full out build new courses, but I imagine some serious volunteer work will be needed, and would like to donate my time.

I look forward to meeting many of you over the course of the Summer/Fall.

Thanks!
