Swope / Swop League - 5/5/2009
« on: May 05, 2009, 08:21:58 AM »
Just a FYI about something I said last week:  Open and Masters will be playing for their tags as a whole combined division tonight.  We'll hopefully see some reshuffling.

I'll also accept bribes to force Palmer to play Open.

Swope / Swope League - 4/22/2009 - Ace!
« on: April 22, 2009, 10:15:58 AM »
Avery Jenkins and Nate Doss were in attendance before making their way down to the NT in Tulsa this weekend.  I was also kind enough to inform them that their fee would be $6 since they aren't club members if they want in the ace fund.  I'm pretty sure Nate is glad I did now; he aced #17 on the right with a putter.  I guess the next time he's in town he'll only have to pay $5 :).

Course was set short, played from the long pads, with OB and Mandos.  Maybe a 5-7 mph wind that died shortly after the round started.

Swope / Changes coming to Swope league!
« on: April 07, 2009, 01:31:57 PM »
Starting in May, we will have 2 changes to the Swope league.

1.  Ratings based divisions.  Since I've been running league this year, we've only had 1 masters card.  As a result of the large open and am divisions, I've decided to implement a cash division between the 2.  Ratings cuttoff have yet to be determined, but I'm working on that.  Here's the breakdown.
Pro 1:  $7 entry, $4.50 from each player into the pot,  top 1/4 get paid. (possibly 970 and up)
Pro 2:  $5 entry, 2.5 from each player into the pot, top 1/3 get paid.  (970 and down)
Am 1:  $5 entry, KC Cash payout, top 1/2 get paid (I think...Whatever it is now) (920 and down)
Am 2:
.
.
.
And so on.

2.  An actual league.  This will be a 15 week league.  Cost of playing this 15 week league is $20 UP FRONT.  Your best 10 weeks count.  This will go ACROSS DIVISIONS using ratings.  Here's how it works:  For a given week, you will have a player rating to begin the round.  This player rating will be compared with your round rating that night to see the % difference.  Based on this difference, you'll be ranked against those playing in the league that night.  Like the PDGA points system, you will be awarded points for how many people you beat that night in the % difference.  So your best ten nights will be counted, and we'll pay out 1/3 of the those who paid in.

Please let me know any questions or comments you have.  I'm looking forward to mixing it up at Swope this summer!

General Banter / League Payout Schedule
« on: March 18, 2009, 11:22:41 AM »
I left Mike Murphy off of my league list last night due to him showing up late, and CD asked me this mornign if, with the extra person, I would have paid out another place.  So I have uploaded our league payout schedule to Google docs and shared it with everyone so those who aren't familiar with the payout could see it.

This will be 1 week before Swope Spring Renwal, 2 weeks before the Jamband event, and 3 weeks before Corperate Challenge.  I'd like to clean up the back OB, trim up a few of the trees, and do some other general course maintenance.  A list will be forthcoming.

Found and Lost / Dan Cashen
« on: February 17, 2009, 11:53:12 AM »
I found a stack of your discs sitting near the clubhouse last Wednesday.  I put them in the clubhouse.

Man, I find Pete's Wraiths all over the place, and now I find Dan's discs just sitting there.  Why can't I get lucky enough and have someone who actually returns discs find mine?

Swope / 2009 Swope League
« on: February 11, 2009, 02:30:11 PM »
When I took the position of CC for Swope in 2009, I knew that I would need the help of the club in running league.  My job is such that there are a number of nights that I don't get off of work until after 6.  One of the ideas that I'm entertaining is a "league by comittee" group of 4-6 people (myself included) who would be responsible for running league.  We'd all be assigned particular dates to run league, and would be responsible for it that night.

I was going over the 2008 league results, and came up with a list of names that appear frequently:

Caleb Walker
Brian Palmer
Todd Henry
Steve Harris
Mark Stiles

There are more, but this is just a start.  Caleb has already agreed to help this year, and I'm sure Brian would be too, seeing how he ran league for part of 2008.  Steve and Mark both have experience running league, and I'm sure Todd does too.  I'll be contacting these people in the coming weeks, but if you'd like to run a league, I would love to have you on board.  If you've never done anything like running league, don't worry, there are plenty of people here to guide you.

This league will only be successful in 2009 if the membership steps up.

Thanks,
Chris
