The white board scoreboard showed West wins 16.5 to East 16.  Does anybody see the math mistake here?

There are only 32 points available, not 32.5. Scoring got messed up along the way and the silly organizer didn't bother checking 'til before leaving the park this evening.  East earned 7.5 points in the 3rd round, Team West earned 8.5 points.

Never mind what Jack said. He's talking about some event that has never existed.

The Kansas City Team Challenge for 2013:

Round 1: 8 matches of alternate shot doubles at Wyco. Rolling start with 1st card at 3:00pm, Sat. June 1st
Round 2: 8 matches of best shot doubles at Cliff Drive. Rolling start with 1st card at 9:30am, Sun. June 2nd
Round 3: 16 matches of singles at Cliff Drive. Rolling start with 1st card out at TBD, Sun. June 2nd (at least an hour after last card from first round is done)


For team members: Everyone should be at each course at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled first card out.  Ryan and I will be drafting pairings based on who is present or accounted for (known on their way) at that time. 

If a player is late for their start the following will occur:

Alternate shot doubles: A single player cannot alternate with themselves. Thus, the opposition will earn a concession on each hole played, from the team with a missing player, until the missing player arrives.
Best shot doubles: the player with a missing partner will play singles against best shot doubles until missing player arrives.
Singles: The opposition will earn a concession on each hole played, from the missing player, until the missing player arrives.

Kansas City Flying Disc Club
Team Championship

 
Purpose:
An annual KCFDC disc golf event to benefit the club and build local camaraderie around a team style competition.
The Event:
A matchplay points accumulation competition of three rounds over two days.  One round of alternate shot doubles (8 mtaches), one round of best shot doubles (8 matches) and one round of singles (16 matches). That means there are 32 points available.  The defending champion can retain the Team Trophy, if they obtain 16 or more points.  The challenger must score 16.5 points or more to take the Team Trophy away from the defending champion.  The winning team will get all their player's names put on the purpetual trophy.
The Players:
Teams will be comprised of 16 players (plus alternates) from their region, Kansas or Missouri, based on residency.  All players must be current KCFDC members and/or active members of the Kansas City area disc golf community. A ~50 mile radius from the conflux of the KS and MO rivers shall be used to determine the approximate region.
 

• Each team will have a selected Captain
• Each team will carry 11 unrestricted players.
• Additionally, each team must carry at least 3 masters (40+) aged men and at least 2 women.
• Each team is encouraged to carry up to 4 alternate players.

• • Alternate players may be used to play any round in place of any other player. However,  #2 and #3 must be maintained for the 16 players competing in the round.
  • Substitutions mid-round are not allowed

Host Team:
As an annual event, each side will alternate taking the status of Host Team.  Odd years (2013, 2015, etc.) will be hosted by the Missouri team.  Even years (2014, 2016, etc.) will be hosted by the Kansas team. Host Team status means this:  Choice of course to be played for the two Sunday rounds;  a round of best shot doubles (8 matches) and a round of singles (16 matches).  As such 24 points of the event are competed on the Host Teams home course.  The “guest team” hosts the round of alternate shot doubles on a course of their choice on Saturday.
Captains Responsibilies:
Each team captain will be repsonsible for the formation of his/her team through qualifiers and/or hand picks. The captains will also determine matchups as follows:
Prior to each doubles round, the captains will hold a snake style draft. The “home” team captain has the option to put out the first pairing, or defer, in which case the other captain is obligated to put out the first pairing.  Prior to the singles round the same will happen, except the team with the points lead after the first two rounds will get the option to pick or defer.  If there is a tie in points after the first two rounds, the home team gets the option.
Pairings and matchups are unrestricted.  That is to say, it is not required to put players of the same class together  or against each other.  For example. A master may be paired with an unrestricted player and they may be matched against a women and a master.  It is up to the captain to decide how they want their players paired/matched up.
The Competition:
In this championship, there are 32 matches played. Each match is worth a total of 1 point.  1 point to the winning team and 0 to the losing team or a half point to each team if the match winds up even (a tie). Each round has a different sub-format, but all are matchplay scored. Essentially, each hole is a mini game with one point available.  The team that finsihes the hole in the least strokes wins the hole. It's all or nothing on each hole.  There is no carry over, this is not skins play. Once it becomes mathematically impossible for one to team overcome the other, based on remaining holes (points), the match is over.
The three sub-formats played are as follows:
 

• Alternate shot doubles: Start based on order on the card.  Each pairing decides who will drive on the odd holes and who will drive on the even holes.  After the drive, partners alternate shots until the hole is finished or conceded.   Rethrows/retees are done observing the alternating partners rule.
• Best shot doubles: both players throw drives. Then they determine which of the two shots they want to play from and both throw from that lie. And so forth, until the hole is finished or conceded.
• Singles: Each player competes 1vs1 playing each hole until it is finished or conceded.

Pairings will be sent off one card at a time from hole one at each round. Each doubles match will have its own card. 2 matches will be sent out on each singles card.
Remember, the defending champion needs only 16 points to retain the trophy. The challenger needs 16.5 points to win the trophy.

Announcing the second annual Kansas City Team Challenge

Hosting rights will flip flop from East to West each year.  The "Host" team gets 2 rounds (24 points worth of matches) on the course of their captains choice. The other round (8 points worth of matches) is played on the opposing teams turf.  2012 version was slightly different, but allowed a first Host to be determined for this year.  By virtue of their win in 2012, the East side will be the host team for 2013. Host team will alternate each year.  2014 will be West hosted.  2015 will be East hosted etc. 

Date:
June 1st and 2nd

Format:
Teams of 16 players (plus alternates) from KS. and MO. each to compete in match play of three formats (alternate shot doubles, best shot doubles and singles). Each match will be worth one point. East Side can retain the Eagle trophy with 16 points or more. The West side has to get 16.5 points or more to win the trophy.

Where:
Wyco - afternoon of Saturday the June 1st, for 8 alternate shot doubles matches.
Cliff Drive, on Sunday, June 2nd for the 8 best shot doubles matches in the morning and 16 singles matches after lunch.

MO - East Side - Ryan Keck
KS - West Side - Tracy Walker
Players:
To be determined!  Possibly a combination of spots obtained via qualifying or captains picks.  I'm leaving it up to the Captain of each side to determine how to build their team. I think we should stick with the 2 Women, 3 Masters (min.) and 11 Open players as required composition of each team.

Cost:
$25. Unless you already have an official team jersey for your side, in which case it is just $10. $10 to support tree planting at KC area courses.

I'll provide more details as Ryan and I determine how we're going to form our teams.  June will get here sooner than you think.

Some basic thoughts on the event:

It will be a fund raiser.  All proceeds, less awards, will go to a beneficiary to be determined.

This is a club member only event.  However, in addition to being a club member, participants will have to compete in a certain number of summer leagues prior to a predetermined date (probably something like 2 weeks before the Team Championship event). This is to deter "ringers." 

Each team will have 16 players. The teams will be comprised of 10 players from qualifying event(s), 4 Captains picks and 2 lottery winners.  Each team will carry 10 Open, 4 Masters(minimum) and 2 Women.

The team Captains will be the club VP of each state. Currently John Theiss for MO. and Jim Sherwood for KS.  If they can't or don't want to be a Captain, they should be responsible to find someone to take their place.

The competition will be a two day, 3 round event, with 2 rounds of doubles matches on Saturday and 1 round of singles matches on Sunday.  Each match is worth 1 point (1 for a Win, 0 for a loss or .5 for a halve) for a total of 32 points. 16.5 needed to claim the Championship.

I'll present this with more detail to the BoD.  Basically, I'll be looking for their event support, some funding to secure a perpetual trophy and advice on a good charity to support.

WYCO / ACE ALERT!!! Wyco League results: Aug 8, 2008

Congratulations to Arturo Villarreal for throwing the first ever summer league ace at Wyco!
Hole #5 short was the giver of good fortune this evening.
The ace pot is at $2238 so Arturo will collect $1119 from the KCFDC.
