Team Challenge qualifier standings; 5 spots (plus ties) on each team up for grabs. The bubble is noted as a tentative line. Each player above the cut line, now has the option to accept their spot.  If you are one of the 12 above a cut line, please post here and/or contact your captain with your status for the event. If someone decides they don't want to or can't play in the Team Challenge, their spot will be offered to the next best scorer in line.  However, final decisions do not have to be made 'til after the final qualifier(s).

East Side:
122 - Adam Johnson (club member?)
124 - Kitzeln Siebert (club member?)
124 - Kevin Manning
126 - Billy Nelson
127 - Jake Bowen
127 - Jordan Hinck (out do to other commitments)
--- tentatively in above here ---
133 - Matt Perry
137 - Jamie Barry

West Side:
118 - Arturo Villarreal
123 - Marc Wisbey (already opted out for Japan Open)
125 - Becket Carduff
125 - Joe Hesting
127 - Nick Altieri
127 - Steve Thimmesch
127 - Jon Tomas
--- tentatively in above here ---
129 - Peter Bures

I think that is accurate. But if there is someone I missed, please let me know, thanks.

are the courses chosen, and format per round finalized?

Yes and yes.
Same format for the rounds as last year.
Saturday, alternate shot doubles at modified Blue Valley. (Assuming Jose wasn't kidding about BV. It does sound like fun).
Sunday at Lakeside Hills: AM - Best shot doubles, after lunch - Singles.

This years Captains have agreed that the Team Challenge should be class unrestricted. What does that mean?  There will be no age protected slots on the teams. There will be no gender protected slots on the team. Earn your spot on a team via qualifier or convince your captain that you're skilled enough to garner a hand picked spot.

Sign up for Kan-U -Wyco this weekend. It is a qualifier for both teams this year.  Top five total scores (regardless of division) on each side will get the opportunity to play in the Team Challenge.

Dick just let me know that he will be taking the top five scores (best 2 round total) of KS side players, regardless of division, this weekend at Wyco, as his first five players on the West Side for the team championship.

He will follow that up with another top 5 scores from a summer league in the next couple months (location tbd). He will then fill out his roster with 6 captains choices and add alternates as needed.

For both captains: The only deadline for your final lineup is Saturday just prior to the first round.  The only reason I ever asked for lineups sooner, was to get shirts.  You'll need to know shirt sizes, if you have any new members on your squad, so we can get those ordered and delivered on time.  Yes, I said I will help in this regard, I'm just not going to get stuck with the bill anymore.

Sounds like we should vote on when the event is too.

No, it is set.   It will continue to be held on this particular weekend every year, if at all possible.

Ok, with 2 pre-nomination seconds followed by a self nomination, FlyingJ it is for East Side Captain.  Thank you for stepping up, Jose.

Dick has already selected Lakeside Hills in Olathe for the West Side hosted rounds on Sunday. It's up to Jose to select which course he would like to to use for the East Side hosted Saturday afternoon round of alternate shot doubles. West side will be announcing its team selection/qualification process shortly (in the next few days).

We the East Side will get together and choose our captain, no need for your help, Tracy.  I'll start making some calls.  I was under the impression our captain was already chosen.

Thanks for taking charge, Jose!  There have been a few names tossed out there. But no definitive call. This is what I am looking for to make it "official." Have the nominated captain post here that they accept the nomination, accompanied by a couple of the 2013 squad members seconding that nomination.  Then we (the Captains and I) can get the 2014 Team Challenge rolling.

East Side, have you figured out who your captain will be for 2014?  If you can't come to agreement amongst yourselves, by the end of the month, I will just ask for volunteers.

If any changes to player classification restrictions were to be made, at this point, it would be to remove them altogether.  I feel that is the direction this event should take. Even now, there are enough players in the area to create Amateur only and/or Masters only versions of this event.  There are probably not enough interested women or juniors to have dedicated events of this type for each. Growth of the sport in the area should eventually change that.

That said, once the East Side confirms who their Captain is, I'll discuss changes, if any, that the Captains would like to make and can agree to for 2014.

P.S. Jamie will be heading up barefooters only subjectively judged version at some future date.  :D

For Kansas, We will play Lakeside Hills. Although, I wouldn't be opposed to Playing P.C. and Lakeside. Dunno if it against the rules to play 2 different courses.

Hmmm, I think the format should remain the same, one course for two rounds on Sunday.  However, if this years captains want to override that, then new precedence for Sunday course flexibility would be in place. Power to the Captains!   ;)

Tank, have you changed your address to Raymore yet?

This has got me thinking lately. If someone moves mid calendar year, would they be able to play for either side? At least in the first year of the move? Or are they automatically an East Sider? Does the person get a say?

Sort of ran into this issue last year. Where is ones permanent residence the weekend of the event would be priority one. However if JohnnyDiscer qualified at an event for one side, then prior to the event, moved to the other side, he would play for the side he qualified in.  I think it would end up being a case by case decision, with the Captains coming to agreement.

I can certainly add a section in the event description/rules that defines what is expected of the TD. It has always been my intention to gradually place more of the organizational responsibilities of this event on the Captains each year. That said, those expectations would, in my mind, annually be reduced 'til a TD is essentially just a day of MC.

Putting team jersey responsibilities on the Captains is a change that gives the team control over their sides identity.  Team identification shouldn't be dictated by a TD.

I tried to have the KCFDC VP of each state be captain the first year, but those in power didn't want in.  Eventually, I had to plead for volunteers. Then last year, to avoid the headache, I self chose myself and randomly invited Ryan for East Side.  As TD again this year, and as part of relinquishing responsibility, I've already dumped captain selection on the people from each side. I asked that each side have their captain selected by the end of last year's event.  West Side wrangled in Dick. But East Side couldn't come to a decision. I have heard several different names tossed around for East Side captain; GI Dave, Eastwood, Jake, but no one for certain has been announced as their guy.  I know they'll figure it out soon enough.

First order of business.  East Side, who is your captain? Dick Parker has agreed to remain captain of West Side even though he's TD of the 2014 KC Wide Open.

The rules remain essentially the same as posted last year: http://kcfdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=8422.msg73993#msg73993.  I'll rework anything that doesn't seem clear and re-post here.

A procedural reminder; each team may be formed in any fashion the captain chooses. Only two restrictions are the composition of each round starting lineup as stated in the rules and 20 player maximum roster size.  (lineup submission deadline was never for restricting roster additions/changes, rather it was for acquiring team shirts on time, which leads to the following)

Small organizational change this year.  I will not be organizing team uniforms for both sides.  As the event director, I'll be glad to help each captain as necessary, as I feel it is important to have a team uniform.   Captains can go for new jerseys, if the wish, or stay with the past jersey.  If the latter, I can put you in touch with either of the t-shirt printers we have used.

Note:  Since it's an even year (2014), West side will host two Sunday rounds.  East side hosts one round on Saturday afternoon.

East Side, please select a captain for your team in the next couple of weeks. I'd like to have each side determine which KCFDC course they plan to host their part of this at by the end of February.

Thanks,

Your Team Challenge Event Director - Tracy

The 2014 Team Challenge will take place on June 7th and 8th. Let's allow the dust to settle from this weekends Ice Bowl.  Then the Team Challenge will be on the radar.

Thank you Tracy for all your hard work and making this happen... and you too, other guy who was like Tracy but not.

That's all I am, the other guy.  I definitely made some mistakes in the first round matchups, but I'd say I did a darn good job on day two to get us re-motivated, and to make it a close race.  With that said, congrats to Tracy and the west side.

Thank you, Ryan.

None of us are totally used to the format yet. Thus we're still learning the drafting strategy as we go. But heck yeah, you had me squirming with your Sunday morning doubles pairings.  Getting back to tied after 2 rounds was important in more ways than one. Singles drafting seems a little easier. But having that first pick option is huge.
