General Banter / Lake Perry Course Pics Update
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:20:36 PM »
I recently went to check the progress at Lake Perry and took some pics.  The pads are poured, and they have done a LOT of clearing on their own out there.  Put it this way... we were able to throw 2/3 of the holes which was unthinkable this summer.  They have the mach 3 powder coated baskets with flags in and ready to be set when things get complete!  We will be scheduling several more work days out there over the fall/winter and hope to have the course ready for a spring tournament.  If anyone is interested in helping with these I will be posting more info on this thread about them, but you may also contact me.  We be opening the course the weekend of the tournament (whenever it is ready).  No baskets will be set until everything is complete and ready to go.   I am waiting on a map from the ranger out there so I can post it and people can navigate their way around the course to check it out.  Here are the pics I took while out there.....

Tournaments / 2009 LSDISCS MIGHTY SHUNGA OPEN SEPT 26-27 B-TIER TOPEKA KS
« on: September 11, 2009, 03:03:01 PM »

Just to add to what is already on the flyer, we will have a recreational division and a casual division which whill be the same price with the only difference being that the casual division won't have to pay the $10 pdga fee. PDGA members won't be allowed in this division. The casual division also won't be posted on the pdga results page after the tourney. Everything else, will be the same.

The Saturday night party should be a blast with a live jam band lined up, food and drinks! I am thinking the party is going to cost $5+- a head which will include a gold rimmed custom pint glass, dinner, drinks, and band... definately worth the money just with dinner and the band! You won't be dissapointed! The party will be within walking distance to the lake shawnee campgrounds which is a plus. We are looking to set up mini golf for the party as well with prizes being given to the top finishers. The sign-up, 1st/2nd round, and party will all be in one location at lake shawnee.

All ams will recieve a players pack that will include...

Tourney Stamped dry fit shirt
Tourney stamped disc
Tourney stamped mini
LSDiscs Koozie
Schwag donated by Visit Topeka
Custom Printed Players manual with maps of all 4 courses
and more!

Here is a link to the campgrounds website...
http://www.snco.us/parksandrec/lake_campground.asp

We are in the process of getting a hotel lined up, but being in late september... it should be perfect camping weather (fingers crossed!) We are also looking at getting some deas on lunches for both days and will post on that when we get the info. For more info...

General Banter / LAKE PERRY PROGRESS
« on: June 14, 2009, 12:33:17 PM »
We finally had  our first work day yesterday at the new lake perry course to get things going.  We had a dozen or so people out there and got a ton of stuff done.  It was a bit overwhelming driving up to the 3rd hole (first one into the forest) and not being able to see 20' into the woods! Let's just say it made a lot more sense when we walked through the course the first several times before everything had grown in.  But, after the first hour of work, things started clicking and we got were making a ton of headway.  Holes 1 and 2 just need to be cut with a brush mower and then maintained with a normal mower to be ready, which will be done by the core and volunteers in the park.  Hole 3 was cleared first with a 30' wide tunnel up the hill to a landing area about 320-350 from tee then doglegs right with a tunnel about 20' wide about 150' to the basket located in a cluster of huge boulders.  A three on this hole will be very good.  Hole 4 has about a 30' wide tunnel through the trees and is a dog leg right.  You will need to throw your drive about 325 on a tight rhbh anny line to the landing area to have a good shot to lay up to the hole which is about another 125' getting narrower as you get closer to the basket.  Hole 5 may be the signature hole of the course and is about 750-800' with huge elevation down the hill and through the tunnel... at the bottom of the hill, the forest stops and you have another 200+ft to the basket.  Some long arms, with a perfect drive, may even be able to get within striking distance of this hole, but anything less that a perfect drive will leave you with a terribly difficult up shot and likely a score of 4 or more.  Hole six shoots from the field shoots straight up the hill and up into a tunner into the forest... a good shot can put you in position for a 2.  Hole seven shoots a tunnel over a ravine that drops probably 50' and then straight back up to the basket which is located in another cluster of boulders.  A tremendous shot here can get you a 2.  This is as far as we got yesterday and I will let everyone know when we schedule a work day.  If you would like to see the course and/or help out at all, I would encourage you to contact Perry Core Ranger Kyle Broockerd @ 7852154216.  I will try and posts some pics soon.

General Banter / NEW COURSE AT LAKE PERRY WORK DAY MAY 16TH
« on: May 07, 2009, 03:00:59 PM »
We will be starting work at the new course at lake perry on Saturday May 16th at 10am.  We will provide food and drinks (pop/water/beer) for all that attend.  Maybe even some free plastic!  We will primarily be clearing out small and medium trees.  Some of the holes are mostly good to go, but there is several that need quite a bit of work.  Bring your chain saws, hand saws, and any other type of tools you have!

The core of engineers is dead serious about this course and are planning on dumping a lot of money into this course.  When it is said and done, it will be KILLER!  Elevation, trees, water, boulders, elevation over water, open fields into trees, trees into open fields, tunnel shots, multiple positions, multiple fairways, huge concrete pads (similar to blue valley, over 10' long), powder coated mach 3's, tee signs/maps, bridges, etc...  They are just looking for any help possible to get this thing rolling.

The course will be at longview park which is on the north east corner of lake perry.  Contact me if you can make it, or if you want to come and need a ride.  We will make it happen.  Hope to see a lot of help!
