General Banter / Perry Review
« on: March 29, 2013, 03:15:48 PM »
Is Perry in the KC Metro area? Because if it is I think I have a new favorite KC course. It is a wonderful challenge of elevation, tunnels, ponds, rock walls, and ditches taller than two CDs!

If anyone wants to see some pics I posted a few of them to my twitter (@cooperarnold).

I'm very interested in getting something going out there on Saturdays when there aren't tournaments going on. This would be a great skins, doubles, wolf, really whatever, course.

Barter Town / Selling or Trading: 11x Aviars
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:24:06 PM »
I've got 2 11x Aviars (from the F2 batch they found a couple years ago) and an old Sanny that is quite similar IMO.

I'm not going to try to list a price or condition. I'd rather just meet up sometime, play some disc, and let you test drive them.

I also have a black 12x tourney stamped KC for sale or trade, for anyone interested in the rare colors.

And less, rare, an orange one. That one too is available.

Barter Town / Want to trade for:
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:22:07 PM »
Any Latitude, Westside, or DD plastic. I'm doing a little more experimentation and rather than buy every mold I'd like to see if I can move some plastic to try some more out.

I'm especially interested in trying the XXX and the Trident.

I have mostly Innova to trade, but a lot of random stuff.

I'm thinking about getting over to PC sometime after work (hard to tell, but probably in the 2:30-4 range).

Anyone else interested? PM or email me

General Banter / Masters
« on: March 12, 2013, 08:09:13 AM »
This is probably a can of worms but I wanted to open up a discussion of Masters.

My question is what is the consideration for Masters aged players to play in that division? Is it even a decision or do you just expect that you will play in Masters? (I'm speaking specifically of tournaments, not leagues.) Or does the course/courses played impact any decision making?

I was thinking specifically of the local tournaments so far this year. At the Frostbreaker there were 12 players in Open and 13 in Masters. At the Rosedale Open there were 7 players in Open and 11 in Masters.

I believe Wyco to be irrelevant. That course is made for big throwers. Though many players over 40 can play very well on that course I would consider that to be a much different scenario than SMP or Rosey which have very few 'long' holes.

So, why do you play Masters on shorter courses that are largely predicated on accuracy and putting? Would you even consider playing up on courses that don't demand 400' shots or does that even matter?

And would any of this change if the added cash weren't evenly distributed between divisions. (Say, instead, that all added cash went into the Open and Pro Women's division or even just a majority.)

Found and Lost / Chartreuse Firebird
« on: March 05, 2013, 04:14:18 PM »
Lost on hole 5 at Wyco. It went towards the pine on the left and probably got buried in the snow somewhere. I looked for 15 minutes to no avail. Help appreciated, especially after the thaw.

Found and Lost / Firebird at DU
« on: December 03, 2012, 09:11:51 PM »
Playing the new 9 at DU I lost my bright green/yellow champ firebird. It just got buried somewhere. I looked for quite a while to no avail.

Much thanks for its return.

General Banter / Course Design Ideas
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:40:08 AM »
We need to start dreaming bigger though! After traveling and playing a number of very challenging courses I've discovered that we just really don't have anything that compares. BV is tough but open, Cliff is OK but only a few holes make you pucker, Wyco is fun but isn't long enough, Blue Springs is getting there, but isn't long enough, etc...

Given the opportunity of different land I would think it would be much easier to build a challenging course there and to employ several 'tricks' to keep the other course as beginner friendly. (Among such tricks is simply listing a 'public' par on the tee signs. It doesn't mean anything to people who play a lot, but to the casual golfer that little mental hurdle to beat can make them feel better and keep them coming back.)

Shawnee Mission / Tourney
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:07:55 PM »
Has there ever been a Tourney out there? (Excluding the Club Championships)

And, I've heard that the parks department there can be real sticks in the mud, but, and this is for anyone with direct experience of them, would they be amenable to allowing usage of some of the land near there for a few temp holes?

That land could make for some really cool temp holes.

Rosedale / Be on the Lookout
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:29:51 PM »
While practicing out at Rosedale this afternoon there was a couple of very sketchy people walking around picking things up. I threw 6 or so shots on hole 4 and when I was walking up to them I saw them putting my firebird into a trash bag. I asked them what they had there and the lady didn't answer. I asked again and she said, "I don't know, I just found it there". At that point I took the bag from her and took my firebird out.

It was two people, one male one female. Both very slender. The woman was older with long stringy hair and the man was younger than the woman with similar stringy hair and a beard.
