Cliff Drive / Re: Cliff Drive Monday League Begins Monday March 15.

No, I dont think we are making people move up to open, just encouraging it.
I usually play in Open for minis and cash infrequently.  I'm ok with league fee increases across the board (all divisions) and/or if the increase is to support the club.  But why the increase for just the open division?  How does extra cash to the "league touring pros" support the club or promote the sport?   Also, why should the Open division have to pay extra to participate in ace fund? (don't respond with, "there is no ace fund increase." you know what I mean.)

I have a feeling this change is going to encourage people to stay away from the Open division.  People will play in AMs (which is actually good for the club) or if 40+, they'll hide out in the Masters division. Time will tell.

If it really is better for the club for more people to be playing AM (you'd have to explain that one to me, I don't get it off hand) then why is this not a good option?
And, as somebody who drives from Lawrence to play in leagues, even if I cash infrequently, I'd rather have the chance to make a little more to cover the gas cost. There have been a number of times when I've cashed only to make just barely my money back, or even won and made only like $10. For putting $5 in to play and having the chance to profit only $10 or so dollars, that doesn't make much sense to me. But I'm pretty amenable to any option out there. (Wasn't there an optional bet promoted at some leagues for Open players? Maybe that is a better way to do it.)

General Banter / A Cautionary Tale
« on: February 21, 2010, 07:54:44 PM »
Attention all! I know this has been brought up before but it just happened to me and I thought I would warn all of you again.

MAKE SURE YOU WATCH YOUR FINAL SCORE WRITTEN DOWN AND THAT IT IS ADDED UP CORRECTLY!!!!!

I verbally confirmed my score with the person adding them up and assumed that would be enough, but still it was not enough to keep them from adding up my score wrongly. (I confirmed my score in relation to par, not the overall strokes, and he added it incorrectly.) There is no reason to say who did this since it was just a mistake, but it was a mistake that cost me the difference between getting last cash and not getting anything, so guard yourself against it. Watch them write your score down... or do it yourself... it sucks and it doesn't have to happen.

You have been re-warned...

No prob! I guess it makes me feel a little better knowing it was just an error and not something intentional (unless they created a separate women's rating system, which might make a little sense).

That's a good idea, except for some reason the PDGA board won't let me post anything... I guess I'll have to get to working on getting that fixed so I can ask him.

Yeah, they must have done that, Tracy. Kind of brings into question what the value of the ratings system is if they calculate it separately for some divisions even when they were playing the exact same course at the exact same time.

General Banter / Player Ratings
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:32:51 PM »
I know this has probably been explained before somewhere else, and that this is probably not the appropriate forum for asking this question but since the search feature on this site is so cumbersome and the PDGA boards for some reason will not let me post this there I appeal to all learned golfers, specifically in the field of understanding player ratings, to answer a question for me.

At worlds this year both MPO and FPO played their semi-final round at WW correct? If so, how is it possible that, for example, Valerie Jenkins shot a 50 and received a round rating of 1041 while Eric McCabe also shot a 50 and received a round rating of 1017? Since they were playing the same course, at the same time, it seems to me that it makes sense that the ratings should be the same and not at all different. But, obviously, if I am wrong about the venue for semis then that makes sense. Does anyone out there have the necessary wisdom or divining powers to answer this question for me? Thanks.

I'm definitely going to be there, unless we get a random blizzard and the roads are impassible.

What about the other course Tank? Does it also get a glowing review?

Yeah, I think you can get different terrains and courses and build your own. I also saw something about it having actual Innova Discs to choose from (although, so does the demo, just with a little different names like destructor and rhinohorn). I haven't bought the full version, but I am considering it just for when its too poor to play outside.

I found something about this in aadgonline.com (I think) when I was watching their disc dying tutorials.
