Found and Lost / Mike Edstedt
« on: April 25, 2016, 07:13:01 pm »
Some of the older Throlathens remember Mike "Mikey" Edstedt. I've not see him for years and the number in the database has been disconnected. I've found his PDGA membership mini #5978 and would like to get it back to him. His last listed address was in Fort Scott, but he hasn't been active with the club since 1993.

I get the sense from the article linked above that this was not an Innova event nor an invitational. I know that Prodigy sponsored players Garret Gurthie and Alex Geisinger were in attendance. It would be nice to see the numbers from everyone who threw. I don't know statistics well enough to understand what you're saying in the last sentence.

I wonder how many players were invited Rick besides Innova Team?

Did any pros participate, regardless of sponsorship?

It's a skewed record then off the normal S-curve for extrapolation. ;)

I've no proof for this assertion, but I believe that there is incredible skill to be able to project the disc high enough to take advantage of the wind, and of course, angling the disc optimally for massive distance. I would hazard a guess that the same guys and gals who are setting records would hold the records in an indoor setting, if and when we can find a venue for this.  While I believe that Tracy's "hurricane" scenario makes some sense, I will continue to argue that just not anyone can throw a disc far in high winds.

The official word now is the wind was closer to 40MPH, and disc weighed in at 154.

I wonder what the legitimate record might be? (with wind under, say, 5mph)  Somewhere under 700ft, 600ft?

The eventual problem with the wind aided system is that at some point, a competition, somewhere, is going to get into a situation where 1100ft will be silly short.  And from then on the record will stand as an unbreakable "event."   Like the MTA toss in 1984 mentioned by Stork in the article

It's much more interesting to figure out and maintain a wind speed threshold system so that we can see the true distance record and a progression of it based on improved skill and technology over time.  It would not be as difficult to manage as Stork would have you believe.

Apparently, Simon Lizotte's distance record of 903 feet, set on Saturday, has been pulverized today by David Wiggins, who reportedly threw a 150-gram R Pro Boss 1,109 feet. WTF?  As the wind may have been howling at close to 60 MPH (on the ground), the naysayers will be back in force.

For some perspective on this, here's a good read. One of the many cool things about Flying Disc Sports is that it is so young that many of the people who created them are still alive. Here is the origin of flying disc distance competition from Dan "Stork" Roddick, the man who epitomizes all things frisbee, as his selection in the Frisbee, Ultimate, Freestyle, and Disc Golf Hall of Fames attest:

they do make 180 wizards, just not destroyers, but man i wish they did......

Yes, they let some of those discs that are not legal for PDGA play out the door. PDGA max for a Wizard is 176.

ok. Thanks for the info.  There is an option to input a discount code.  So, there is a code floating around somewhere.  Just trying to locate it.

For the Club to benefit, we need to process the PDGA memberships. Jeff, you can pay for your membership at either DD or DGW. Once I get the forms, I process the memberships.

This article is lengthy and old...from 1997...but I've liked its idea for team golf. However, to my knowledge, no community has ever pulled it off. KC is one of the few towns where we have enough bodies to pull it off, or will in three years, when there will be at least two legend age guys in town.

Am I assuming correctly that if we show up at a satellite and sign up there, they will have the full options of disc choices available as were listed on the ice bowl flyer?

Not necessarily. We've included most models to this weekend's events, but in some cases, there was only one or two of a model. Also, we don't get more Cryztal Z Buzzzes in until next week. Your best selection is at Ice Bowl World Headquarters, housed in Disc Golf World.

If only Dave and everyone else were 100% correct in spelling my last name once in a while....ooofta.

Haha can't wait for this event; glad I finally have the chance to play it.  The only Buzzz about this year is going to be how bad they got ROC'D!

Hey Jordan, Your 2015 #8 tag is still waiting for you to pick it up. You may want to have on your bag to tempt a Buzzzer into thinking you'll relinquish it.

I think this forum should be open to all interested disc golfers. However, I am in favor of doing away with all screen names in favor of the poster's first and last names. Not sure what the work load would be to vet people to ensure this happened, but I know that I like to know who is the person behind the idiotic and brilliant posts

Jack is correct in that it's the President's expressed duty to fill vacancies on the board. The board must ratify his choice. One further clarification is that the president's appointee will serve as an "at-large" member until after the 2015 elections. The first order of business after each election is for the newly constituted board to select its officers. Therefore, it's possible for the appointee to become an officer following the 2015 elections.

Also a Silver Pain with Remsen written on it along with a phone number that has no voice mail set up.

We have them here at DGW.

This is probably the best article about a disc golf community I've ever read, and it's about us!
