Rosedale / 2008 Rosedale League--Everyone is Welcome!
« on: March 10, 2008, 09:49:03 PM »
John Chapman and I are running league at Rosedale this year. It looks like Wednesday is the pick weather day of the week. Come on out and say goodbye to winter.

We are teeing off promptly at 5:30. Please register by 5:15 or give me a call at 816.914.0094 if you want on a  card. Amateurs—be they advanced, intermediate, rec, or novice—are encouraged to play. We intend to be very liberal in creating divisions. Three players are preferred, but we're flexible. KC Kash will be given as prizes, and there will be discs there to redeem any winnings. Cash divisions this week are open and masters (40 or turn 40 in 2008) and/or grandmasters (50 or turn 50 in 2008).

Entry fee: $5.00 (KCFDC members get a $1 discount). Ace Pool is $1 and optional. The current ace pool is around $400.

More will be posted later here, but we're going to try some new formats this year at Rosedale. Stay tuned.

If you tee right at 5:30, I think there's enough light to get it a round in, especially on a short course. It might give a few more folks a chance to get there on time. Count me in.

While we're at it.. what's the possibility of moving the DUI to Saturday, March 22nd, instead of Easter Sunday?

Just talked with Pete Cashen, who opted for Sunday, March 30.

General Banter / Re: Corporate Challenge?
« on: March 09, 2008, 11:50:00 AM »
I am correct that only 4 people from each company can compete (2 men, 2 women), right?

Chris is correct. Companies have one team of two men and one team of two women.

With more companies than ever (173 at last count) signed up for the Corporate Challenge, it's most likely that there will be tee times rather than a shotgun start. This will be not finalized until after 5 p.m. on March 19, which is the deadline for teams to get their rosters for disc golf turned in.

John Chapman and I will be sharing what they call the Games Captain duties, along with another Captain, Kyle Piedemonte (a disc golfing golf pro) who has worked previously with the KCCC in golf. The Game Director for disc golf is a long-time KCCC official (and ball golfer) Bob McMillan.

Here's a link to the list of companies in the KCCC.
If you work for one of these companies, make DG happen there. This is really a great opportunity to promote our sport.

Rick - any idea what time the rounds will start each day? Is it one round Sat one on Sunday>
I'm trying to find a partner and he's church going guy and needs to know before he commits.

The KCCC disc golf is one round on Saturday. Sunday would be if we were rained out on Saturday. Whether a shotgun start or tee times are used will be decided once registration closes.

For anyone not "blowing glass" that weekend.

A downloadable entry form will be available soon.

Just listened to the revamped PDGA Radio, where Brian Schweberger said he was definitely going to the Kansas City Wide Open. He said something like that he heard that there was a new course there that was like Water Works on steroids...oh yeah, he said it was called Blue Valley. He also mentioned that the last time here, in 2005, was the last time he didn't cash in an event.

Bag Tags / 2008 Bag Tag Challenge—Tracking the Elusive #1 Tag
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:39:11 AM »
While it'll be close to impossible to track every bag tag (there are now 140 out, with 60 still available), let's use this space to track #1 as it happens. Everyone who wins #1 is asked to not only put your name and date received on the back of the tag, but if possible, to report here.

Here's what's transpired so far in the 2008 KCFDC Bag Tag Challenge:

January 27: Rick Rothstein pulls #1 out of a box

March 1: Bill Neenan wins the tag in a match created by Rick when he announced in this thread. Bill shoots 58, Rick is at 67, Chris Timko gives Bill a good run as they were tied going into the 15th hole. After Bill parked #15, Chris went OB on #16 to go down by three. He ended up with a 62. Dan Weinert and Becky Stebbins
contended for a while

March 2. Marshal Wolfe shot a first round 56 in the windy Leap Daze Tournament to get the tag from Bill w ho shot 58.

March 2: In the second rounds, Kevin Crist of St Joe shot a 53 in the 2nd round, edging Marshal by 3.

The tag will not be hiding in St Joe as Kevin has announced in the Leap Daze thread: "As for the #1 bagtag It's up in St. Joseph. If I come to town before wyco on sun. I'll post Time and place for anyone who wants a shot at #1. If not it will be in play in the advanced masters div."

Bag Tags / Re: 2008- What number ya got?
« on: February 29, 2008, 05:07:09 PM »
I wonder who lurks here and if this will bring them forward. I intend to play Water Works tomorrow around 1 p.m. and though I'm rusty and older than I was when I pulled the #1 tag, I'm ready for Bag Tag Challenges. If interested, please CALL me at 816.914.0094. I'll take on a maximum of four challengers.

General Banter / Re: Ace Race???
« on: February 27, 2008, 02:55:55 PM »
The Discraft Ace Race should be considered as a fundraiser. Players get a couple discs and a cap or something for $20, which cost the event organizers $15. There is one winner who gets the Discraft supplied prize package. If publicized far enough in advance with pre-registrations taken, we should be able to draw at least  200 people for a tidy $1K profit. It might be something we could combine with an overall tournament featuring MTA, distance, and accuracy (I've wanted to reprise that for a while) One problem we might have would be getting people to understand that they get one shot per hole. You either ace it, get metal, or miss. Record it and then move to the next hole.

We opted out of the Worlds Biggest and created Disc Golf Day because between Eagle Products and Disc Golf World, we could bring packages in cheaper and of course, the art was about KC.

I think the Club should think about doing an Ace Race through Discraft this year.  This is not saying that the event that Chris is thinking about shouldn't be considered, but its r'aison d'etre would need to be understood.
