General Banter / speed golf
« on: November 17, 2008, 08:14:50 AM »
I've seen others jogging and playing before, so yesterday afternoon I thought I'd try it out. I kept the stopwatch running from when I started on 1 to when I putted out on 18 at Prairie Center. I shot a 54 in 22 minutes-9 seconds. I think if the course is empty I can shoot a 54 or better under 18 minutes. It's a lot of fun except for the chest pains and leg cramp part.

What I wanna try sometime is to get a team of four, and by stationing the team at various points along each hole, see how fast they can get one disc all the way around the course. It would be fun to get two or three teams and have a race around the course, with each team trying to get one disc all the way around the course fastest. I'd say the rules would be just like regular disc golf, and you could only throw the disc to play a hole. (no throwing it from basket to tee box to save time) What disc to use? I think a Roc or Buzz. I'd guess a four man team could get one Roc all the way around Prairie Center set fairly long in under twelve minutes. Maybe under ten minutes?

42 degress, 15 mph winds, and steady light rain showers all convinced the three golfers that showed up to take it to the house.

NO GLOW.

Hopefully we'll have better weather next Monday.

Prairie Center / 11-03-08 GLOW

15 players attended the first round of season 4 Prairie Center GLOW last night. There was an air of cheer and camraderie which made for a very pleasant eve. The temps were unseasonably warm and the scores were hot. It was approximately 67 degrees F with SSW winds at 12 to start the round. Notable missing regulars were our south of the border friends.

Dave Hemmeline & Josh Warner  44 for $42
Bryan Guthrie & Joe Hesting  45 for $28
Kevin Simpson & Dan Leweke  46 for $10
Bom Tutler & Cooper Arnold  47
Deano & Dan Coffman  48
Leo Daprato & Bob Hayett  49
Andy Lewis & Disck Parker  50
Wes Lubberts & Cali Wes  51

I don't think I've seen many leagues/tourneys where the scores all lined up like this. Kinda cool, except for the me not cashing part. No ACE hit, and with 13 players getting in last night the ACE fund is now at $547. 17 more Monday GLOWS left.....

Leo ACED hole #4 last night in league.

At the board meeting tonight we will discuss whether his round (and ACE) is valid, due to the fact he played the round with the use of Deano's shiny new golf cart.

Just kidding. Congrats on another league ACE Leo!

WYCO / 09-12-08 League
« on: September 13, 2008, 08:49:06 AM »
It was raining at 5:15 and only 3 showed up for league. We waited in the shelter to see if it was going to let up. The tornado sirens started going off, the rain intensified, the Park Ranger pulled in and said "There's a big storm heading towards the park." The cell phone radar confirmed he was not joking. We continued to wait in the shelter, and knew the rock and concrete park shelter would provide some protection from the storm. The Park Ranger pulled back in, driving fast he drove right through the grass and shouted "A tornado just touched down 2 miles southwest of here". We all were ready to bolt when we saw it. Crossing the road west of the shelter near long #4 basket and heading towards #18 tee, was a small funnel dancing along the ground. It wasn't pulling up much debris and looked rather kewl. Unexpectdly, Dave takes off running towards it with a disc in his hand. He intercepts the funnel near the right side of #3's fairway and leaps into the air towards it. It was the coolest sight you would ever see, Dave flying along about 7 feet off the ground. Then, as being whirled around, I see Dave throw the disc. As he was being carried by #17 basket, he grabbed the top of the chain assembly and pulled himself free of the cloud. A few minutes later, the rain stopped and we all walked in the direction the disc went. After looking for almost an hour, Gus found it in the parking lot of the Agricultural Hall of Fame. That throw was close to 2500'!

No league due to the weather.

Next week tee time is 5:00. Sign up by 4:50.

WYCO / ACE beer TONIGHT !
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:52:43 AM »
If you've often considered going to Wyco for a Friday night league, but thought, "it's too far", or "I won't get home until late", or "the course is toooo long", or any of a number of other lame azz excuses, tonight might be the time to head to Wyco.

There will be a smorgasboard of beer, as well as some surprises.

Can't make it by the 5:20 sign up? Come out anyway, hang out, drink ACE beer, enjoy the eve.

For early arrivers, the ACE beer should be on site by 4:40.

WYCO / 08-29-08 League
« on: August 30, 2008, 09:34:23 AM »
A beautiful, almost Fall like evening was enjoyed by the 19 golfers in attendance last night at Bonner Park. It took six years for the first ACE to be hit at Wyco, but, after I struck hole #5 last night there has now been 2 league aces in the last 3 weeks on the same hole. ACE beer and sodas (and other surprises) for all next week. Remember to be early. The 5:37 tee off last night allowed us to finish just as the sun sank below the horizon.

OPEN-8
Dave Hemmeline  50 for $13
Arturro Villareal  54  for $7 (left before payout was complete, I'll pay you next week)
Nick Altieri  57
Andy Lewis  60
Deano Uhlman  61
Fred Netherton  62
Brett Long  63
Jesse Wallace  69

MASTERS-8
Tom Butler  54 for $8.50
Brian Gammon  54 for $8.50
Terry Adams  60 for $1.50 (I'll pay you next week)
Mark Morales  60 for $1.50 (same as Terry)
Jeff Hoglund  64
Mark Hogins  67
Kevin Montgomery  72
Becky Stebbins  88

ADVANCED-3
Mike Coleman  70 for $6 KC KASH (Mike is the ACE whisperer, he has attended WYCO league twice in 6 years and both times he attended and ACE was struck !)
Leigh Ann Hoglund  73 for $3 KC KASH (good job!)
Marc Hoglund  74

Hope everyone had a fun time. I know I did !  ;D  Remember to be early next week, and come thirsty.

Found and Lost / Lost tee rex @ rosedale #1
« on: June 26, 2008, 03:19:52 PM »
Tuesday I lost a blue star tee rex on #1 rosedale around lunch. Later that day I got a call on my home message machine from a guy named Joe who said he'd found it. He didn't leave a call back number and I don't have caller id at home, so if anybody knows Joe, have him call me again.

Prairie Center / league choices on Monday
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:50:14 AM »
Now that the cliff drive league is starting up on Mondays, it's great we have a choice in where we want to play every Monday.

If you want to come play a course with concrete tees, and manicured/mowed grass, come on out to Olathe.

Remember when the time change occurs in the fall, we will start up GLOW as well.
