Old Pike / Swope Diversity Reciprocal Field Trips
« on: October 28, 2012, 02:45:57 PM »
Swope Glowers, Super Fred and E Kolk, have proposed that during the winter months, we have periodic designated weeks when the Swope glowers will come out to Old Pike on a Tuesday and there would be no Swope league.   We will designate another week of the month where the Old Pikers will go to Swope and there will not be an Old Pike league.  We plan to start this Tuesday October 30th with the Swopers visiting the OP and  then, on Nov. 6th the OP will travel to Swope.

We will see how this works out and then, may designate set weeks; so, people can plan their schedules.

Beat in orange putter with no legible name.     Too modern to be Ottos or Todd Henry's.  Maybe Shane's.  Also,  got that padded thing that might be laron's but no one would pick it up after someone said it was his cup!   Don't think who checks the message board but

Old Pike / Tuesday League moved to Swope
« on: May 28, 2012, 11:00:57 PM »
In honor of the 30th KC wide open, we are moving Tuesday Old Pike doubles league to Swope Gold this week!  We still need to get Old Pike in order and Dave Z will be moving fire wood about 7:30 tomorrow.  Old Pike disc members could always play a round with guests; but, no league this week.    Hope to resume next week if Teddy can run it and the course is ready.

Old Pike / Old Pike Membership Drive
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:51:20 PM »
With the additional hour of daylight, we are keeping the 6:00 start for Tuesday Old Pike Doubles.  And, we are also starting up the membership drive to get some funds in to get the course in shape for summer play and for the first annual Sharks in the Water Tournament.  Please renew your membership or start a new one, sponsor a hole, or adopt a hole.   $50 a year and payment plans are available if that is an isssue.

To this point, 100% of all league funds and membership dues have gone to course improvements, and we were finally able to get all 18 + tee pads.  We have more benches and tee signs on the way.

My hope is that we can have a great turnout for the Sharks in the Water Tournament to provide some funds to the KCFDC and some to Old Pike Country Club, who has graciously let us turn the vanilla 9 hole course in to a fun and challenging 18 hole course.

Thanks for your support. And, thanks to our sponsors, contributors and members who are largely comprised of KCFC members.

General Banter / Friday Nite Lites
« on: December 16, 2011, 12:00:03 PM »
Friday nite lites 6:00 random draw doubles at Old Pike.  Same as the league format:  $6 entry and $2 optional ace/CTP.  Should be a good group.  We have East siders, north siders, and possible south siders representing.  There might even be Beckett and Booger sightings.  We also have some West side representation; but, that side is a little thin given the holidays and Mike D's kwansa celebration, which we all have to respect.  Come on out and warm your cockels by the fire!

What do you mean what is a cockel?  It is either a clam like mollusk or a chamber of your heart.  Either way I am not sure it makes a lot of sense.

Finally, the launch pads are poured at Old Pike!  Thanks, so much for all who helped!   Special thanks to:  Dan Cashen , Mike D, Dog Fila, Amanda Jackson, Teddy K., Bill and Matt Neenon, Billy Nelson, Bobby V., Caleb Walker, Kelly Warren, and Dave Z.    Sorry if I missed anyone.

Of course, there is still more work to be done:  additional pin settings, signs, a few more benches etc.  And, Ted is still planning his custom hand crafted tee pad for the cookie cutter.  More progress on the way . . .   and that doesn't even count Jami Danger and his tennis ball disc basket.  Come out Tuesday nite and play the new pads!

Old Pike / Tee Pads
« on: October 20, 2011, 06:52:58 AM »
The plan is on for pouring tee the rest of the pads this Saturday.  I hope we can pour ten pads.  Early Saturday morning, Dan Cashen will be working a bobcat to level the playing surface and we will need to get the pad frames level so we can pour at 12:30.

We will also be using the bobcat to clear dead trees; so, Friends of Old Pike, we can use your help in a variety of ways.

Come on out and help for a little before during or after Saturday Rosdedale down under league.  Jay R. turned 50 yesterday; so, if you play down under on Saturday, he will insist that you refer to him as Grand Master Jay!

Old Pike / Tee Pad Progress
« on: May 08, 2011, 01:11:20 PM »
 :D

Finally, we have a few tee pads poured!  Just in time for summer funner league on Tuesdays.

Eight pads are poured and I hope to get the protective barriers removed today once the concrete dries.  Now we just need ten more tee pads, benches, signs, etc.  Special thanks to Kevin, D Zents, Arturo and Bobby, as well as Brad Merys, who helped with late inning relief.  Also, Smithville Dan and Pete were very helpful with advice.  Although, I don't always know whether to believe Pete.

Memberships are available for those who would like availability to the course outside of Tuesday league.  There are also a few orphan holes looking to be adopted!

Come out out for random draw doubles on Tuesday and check out the new pads!  Progress as promised and more on the way . . .

General Banter / Referrals for Concrete Tee Pads
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:57:01 PM »
We are looking for bids to put some tee pads in at Old Pike.  Any suggestions or recommendations on who would be a good source for concrete?

Booger Warren, Arturo and Bobby have concrete skills and I will see if they have any leads.  But, I am not sure what type of equipment they would have access to.  Does anyone have a good way to contact Larry Balmer or know others who might be able to bid out the work?

Additional details to follow. . . Ted K. (of the cookie cutter fame) is making up a flyer.

Also, come out for doubles league Tuesday night.  We plan to cook up some ribs in honor of Riley's last night before leaving for college.  Let us know if you are coming so we can bring enough food.  We will ask for a couple bucks donation to help with the cost of the meat.  Kevin and I have been funding the food after league so that 100% of league money goes to course improvements.  Please feel free to bring a side dish or chips if you like.   Look forward to seeing you there!
