Tournaments / 33rd Annual Kansas City Wide Open - June 19-21, 2015
« on: March 05, 2015, 11:05:12 AM »
The KCWO committee met last night for the first time to iron out all the details for the 33rd installment of this wonderful Kansas City  disc golf tradition known as the Kansas City Wide Open.

So please, mark your calendars for June 19-21 and help us show the disc golf community around the world that we are the best place on earth for world class disc golf tournaments. Even if you can not play or volunteer, make sure you attend Sunday afternoon, June 21, to show support for the disc golfers by being apart of what we believe is the largest and most amazing gallery in disc golf. We are excited to once again provide Kansas City an opportunity to witness the best disc golf in the world.

The KCWO is an A-Tier event with the PDGA and also we are once again a USDGC Qualifying event. This year is not going to be any less grand than years past. We are planning just as big of an event so we can continue that tradition going into next year when the National Tour returns to KC.

The course to be used this year will be Water Works, Rosedale, Swope Gold, and one lucky pool will get to play a fun modified layout of Blue Valley, designed to test your skill, not your legs... as much.

The A-Tier will include all pro and advance amateur divisions. All of these divisions will be playing 4 rounds Fri-Sun. We will continue the tradition of a final 9 featuring the top 4 men and top 3 women in a super group. The intermediate and below divisions will be playing in a subsequent B-Tier that will play 3 rounds between Sat-Sun.

Online registration is in the works as we speak and I will likely have that up and running by the end of the week. Hopefully everyone will make plans now to be apart of this wonderful event in one way or another. More details to follow.

Tournaments / KCWO 2015 POLL!
« on: January 19, 2015, 07:09:57 PM »
It's poll time. I would like some input on a decision that I must make with the Intermediate and below players. To make my master plan work I am only able to do a maximum of 3 rounds for the B-Tier/C-Tier players and not able to allow play on Sunday.

BTW, the reason we seperate the Int and below players from the A-Tier/NT over the years is to allow people to pay the $10 non-pdga fee to play. If you want to play in the A-Tier portion you will need to move up to Advanced or higher.

Anyway, please look over the poll and make your vote known. I will listen to discussion but before you ask, yes I am still considering the 3rd round to be on Sunday morning but would like not too. If this is your only option you may choose "Non of the Above." Please vote and help me mold the event. Thanks.

General Banter / Merry Christmas Kansas City Flying Disc Clubers
« on: December 25, 2014, 12:14:25 PM »
Like the title says, Merry Christmas to all my frisbee throwin' friends. Bah humbug too. :)

Ok, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with the 2015 KC Wide Open. Please submit... or resubmit your vote for what you think would be the best way to go. The poll is not going to dictate what I will eventually decide but it will help me understand the local favorite.

Yes I will use Water Works this year so... vote!

Water Works / WW Glow League 12-4-14

How about instead of sitting in front of the pooter watching the internet melt, you should join us tonight for some glow dubs 6 pm tonight. Which looks like 40° and light to no wind. Should be a great night for glow.

Water Works / Turkey Glow
« on: November 27, 2014, 11:20:12 AM »
It sounds like a group of people will be meeting tonight for Turkey Glow at Water Works. I will have lights and handwarmers on me for sale. I don't have a lot of handwarmers but I should have enough lights for those who need them.

There used to be a time when we would get 30+ for turkey glow. Let's make tonight another one of those nights.

Bag Tags / 2015 Bag Tags
« on: October 16, 2014, 02:20:55 PM »
Ok, so I have finally caught up with the Club Championships and am ready to let you know what tag you will likely be starting 2015 off with. I say likely because from now until the November 15th Club Elections, I am hoping that most of you will take the time out to make sure you are on the list if you paid. Now, I will say that if you are not on this list and you think you paid, you probably are wrong. But you will need to contact me so we can figure out why you aren't on the list. If there are any questions, please let me know so we can get it figured out.

As for distribution goes, you may pick up your bag tag at the 2014 Club Election, Nov. 15. 2014. If you are in a tie with another person, it is a first come first serve basis. I know a few of you have had a "play-off" for the tag in a tie situation and that is fine. But I don't know or care what the turn out was. You just need to make sure you worked it out with the other player before picking up your tag.

Tournaments / KCFDC Championships - October 11-12, 2014
« on: September 15, 2014, 08:52:05 PM »
2014 Kansas City Flying Disc Club Championships - October 11-12

This event is FREE for all current KCFDC members. If you are not current, you can always sign up at either DDKC, DGW, or the day of the event. Please bring Cash or Check (made out to "KCFDC"). Also having the current form printed off and filled out helps.

Here we are again. Time to find out who is the best of the best in Kansas City. Due to the amount of people who showed up for the 1st round last year, I have decided to start us out at Rosedale Park. This way we can use both courses to facilitate an abundance of golfers. So both rounds on Saturday will be at Rosedale. You will either play Up-Top or Down-Under in your first round. Then you will play the other course during your second round.

Then on Sunday we will play at Waterworks and Blue Valley. This is where it gets tricky. You will need to check here, Facebook, or your email to find out where you will need to go to play in the morning. Then we will switch courses in the afternoon. If you are unsure or miss all of out attempts to communicate with you, please get to one of the courses early in the morning so you can find out if you chose correctly. Hopefully you will be able to figure it out. I will do my best to make sure you know. Water Works will be the finishing course for the top cards. Hopefully that will help you figure out where to go.

Remember folks, you DO NOT need to play every round. You can come out for 1 round, 2 rounds, 3 rounds or all 4. But if you intend to only play 1 or 2 rounds here an there, please let me or whoever is running your course know. It will make everything go so much easier.

Now, obviously this is a new format this year. I just want to see how it works being the fact that our club is getting so much bigger. I need to find a way to keep 140+ players off one course at a time. While we somehow made it work last year, I don't want to go through that again.

Check in for Saturday and Sunday morning will be 8:00-9 AM. If you are playing an afternoon round only, please be at the course early to get checked in. I will try to post afternoon start times here and on the KCFDC Facebook page.

Saturday 10-11:
Round 1 - Rosedale Park - 9:30 am
Round 2 - Rosedale Park - TBA

Sunday 10-12:
Round 3 - A-POOL Blue Valley - 9:30 am / B-POOL Water Works - 9:30 am
Round 4 - A-POOL Water Works - TBA / B-POOL Blue Valley - TBA

We will also be taking payment for your 2015 Bag Tag. You must PREPAY for the bag tag to be included in the initial distribution of tags. Winning the event will NOT get you an exemption. You must pay to play. I will reveal next years tag at the event and they will be distributed at the KCFDC Elections. Date TBD.

If you have any further questions you may call me at DGW 816-471-3472. Or email me at

Lastly, I want to apologize for not having a flyer created for this event. I will have something up for the courses soon, although I have been a little too busy to make anything pretty.

Tournaments / 32nd Annual Kansas City Wide Open - June 20-22, 2014

32nd Annual Kansas City Wide Open - June 20-22, 2014

Once again, we are part of the PDGA National Tour Elite Series. We will be seeing some of the best players in our game, shredding OUR courses that we know like the back of our hands. BUT, in order to do that, we need all the help and support we can get. This can be done two different way.
  • Volunteer
  • Sponsorship

I need YOU... to do something. I'll have a way for you to sign up soon at At that point you can let me know what days you are available and what times you can work when I need you to. What you can do for now is help me get as much sponsorship money as we can so we can give the best and most professional event possible.

Which leads to...

Download the Tri-Fold Sponsorship Form here. You can also pick a nicely printed version from me at Disc Golf World. I will try to get a more web-friendly version up soon.

I know everyone wants more details about the event and I will get to that soon. First things, first. Sponsors. Help me, help Kansas City.

Thank you!

Tournaments / KCWO Artwork
« on: February 19, 2014, 12:03:47 PM »
Hey everyone. I am looking for ideas for 2014 KCWO artwork. This will be featured on the Teeshirt and disc. I have an artist who I trust will do a great job and do it in a timely manner. I am just looking for ideas or concepts for me to get started.

Please take a minute and tell me what you think might look cool for this year's design. Thanks in advance!
