Tony Hawk is a freak of nature.  That's not a good point.  I mean age is only relative.  Though Kevin's point is that there aren't a bunch of old farts in X games means the demographics are different.

The problem is that all of you see the term "dress code" and you all think you have to put on khakis and button up shirts.  The PDGA is very liberal on this issue.  They, like a lot of us, want to be taken seriously as a sport.

So being  the fact that we virtually have nothing to offer sponsors or cable TV, we should not worry about the fact that the PDGA would like to see the sport taken more professionally rather than a bunch of pot heads who throw frisbees.  Again they will not ask any one of you to do so.  It is really a small issue that has no foundation.

And anyway.  The X Games are a combination of many sports/pastimes, similar to the olympics.  I'm sure there is a dress code of some sort.  They really don't want to promote weed and other illegal substances.  Nor do they want you to be naked.  You think those sponsers are going to cough up big bucks for just one of these sports on their own?  Sure Redbull and Monster will but we are talking small fries. They don't pull out the big money until this 1 event.  Where they can get a lot of exposure.  There is NO exposure currently with in our sport.  Mainly because we are not taken seriously.  Also because there is no real fan base for our sport.  Hell most people who play casually don't like leagues / tournaments.  We  just get in their way.   While in skateboarding and such people who casually participate actually like seeing it done be professionally.   Skateboarding also is an Image thing and always has been.  Disc golf only has one image and it is something we need to break.  Mainly because the demographics are much more broad then a bunch of teenagers. Ever been to an X games or Skate Demo?  The only "older" people there are the parents who had to get their kids there.

In closing.... No one is going to trying to turn this into Ball Golf!   Most of us would just like to get the sponsors with real money who can support lots of tournaments through the year.  That isn't going to happen with a bunch of beer drinkin', tank top wearin, mullet sportin', goof balls with a frisbee.    They just ask that hey the day we do get on TV again, how about we look like a real damn sport?  How about we show the world that the people who actually compete (not worry about a dress code that will probably never affect them) are professional as any other sport, and are ready for their shot at some big bucks.

P.S. Please spell check this so we can talk about something else.

Mike you have this all wrong.  There is no dress code that says you have to look pretty.  or wear slacks or knickers or any of that.  Nor does what someone wears outside of their sport matter.  Look at Josh anthon.  Basketball shorts, a baggy polo, and a crooked hat.  Dood.  That is within the "dress code"  They just don't want us to look like an amateur sport.  Which is what some guy with a beer belly and no shirt would look like.  This isn't the gestapo here.   And I'll tell you what.  Most of these disc golfers who are really good.   I bet you most of them love ball golf, tiger woods, and all that go along with the sport.  Including the clothes.  I love getting a new dri fit shirt.  It helps you play at your best.  Hence the "performance" value.   Really, you shouldn't worry about this.  I think it is only a big deal to a select few people.  Silly my friend.

I love how my point gets buried by my lack of spell check.   <snip>

Use Firefox with built in spell checker for form fields.  Of course, if you just ignore the red underlined words and click "Post", it won't help ya.

Actually I do... But when the word corresponds with another word that just isn't the word you are using then... wallah no red lines

I think you all are silly.  Minus Kevin.  Not that I agree or disagree with him ( I agree ) but MMA?  X GAMES?  Is this what you want our sport to model itself after?  Come on.  No one has ever asked you to wear a collared shirt I'm sure.  No one will.  Unless you get to a higher level of play.   And at that point there should be a shroud of professionalism.  Most tournaments give you a dri fit shirt or polo of some kind these days.  Just throw that on.  It isn't much of a dress code.  Nor is it enforced nearly as much as any other sport.    I think getting all bent our of shape because someone wants you to be clothed while representing our sport isn't that bad of idea.

And to reiterate what Kevin said.  Get off the computer and go run a tournament.  non sanctioned / sanctioned, what ever!   Jack wants to run a PDGA tourney let him!  You aren't going to get out there and do it.

I'm glad you have enjoyed disc golf so far.   One thing I would say is that Kansas City has SO many courses to offer new - intermediate players.  Swope / Shawnee Mission / Down Under / Prairie Center / Pleasant hill / Rosedale 3/4 of the year and Water Works 1/2 the year.  I think being your first year in the scene you have been able to experience what some of our courses (mainly Rosedale) can become.  But on a whole that and many other courses are usually set short.   A few times out of the year they are tipped out for us "long arms" enjoy.  Due to technology in discs and plastics the game has evolved where no the people picking it up are young people and these newer faster discs make it easy to throw those distances with little effort.  The courses are reflecting the way the game is going.   I think length if done properly would be enjoyable to all who play.  Not just the guys who can throw 400+.    Take hole #8 at rosedale on the island.  I'm sure you enjoy that hole.  A 4 is a good score on that hole.  Anyway, for the most part the more frequented courses are in very beginner friendly placements so I wouldn't worry about that too much.  That is for use long arms to whine about. :)
