Young Park - Blue Springs / Wilbur Young review
« on: April 25, 2011, 05:19:28 PM »
I'd like to send a gigantic THANK YOU TO John Theiss, the Parks and Rec Dept, and everyone who has worked on Wilbur Young!!  I played the course Oct 2010 and I just posted my review at DGCoursereReview.com.  I gave the course a rare 5 disc rating-- the highest possible.  Here was my conclusion:

"For such a new course it amazes me how much work they’ve done and how far they’ve already come...

This course solidifies John Theiss’ status as a Master Course Designer!  Well done, sir.  This is the kind of course that I was sad to finish, and it’s now among my Top Favorites.  Wilbur Young rivals Waterworks as my favorite course in the KC metro area.  It’s that enjoyable!  If I had limited time and could only play one course in the area I’d be hard pressed whether to choose Wilbur Young or Water Works.  They each have different character, so the choice would come down to what type I wanted to play that day.  I had a fantastic time from start to finish; the course should be savored like fine chocolate!  I’d highly recommend people to play here for a first class experience!"

My screen name at DGCR is also Olorin, and you can find my detailed review notes at DGCR too.

I've played and reviewed almost every course in the KC metro area and this was one of the most enjoyable.

Once again, my hearty thanks to all who put in time, sweat, and money into building such a first class course!!

John Theiss, if you would check your PMs and send me an email I'd really appreciate it.

Shawnee Mission / Hole 9 length
« on: November 27, 2008, 07:28:22 AM »
Hole 9 no longer matches the 519 ft length listed on the map.  Has anyone measured the length of the new layout?  If you could post the length here or email me at playdiscgolf(at)gmail.com I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I enjoyed playing SMP in Oct.  I noticed that hole 9 is different than the map shows.  Instead of the listed 519 ft it seems to be in the 300s.  Maybe ~330?  Does anyone have the current length of that hole?  I'm writing up my notes on the course and then I'll post a review of the course ad DG Course Review, so I'd appreciate any help you can give.

Glad to see that Yates has it's own place on this web site.

Me too!  Great job on that course John.

Where is this course?  Would you please post some directions?  When do you think the baskets will be installed?

Cliff Drive / Course Review
« on: November 20, 2008, 04:32:33 PM »
FWIW I just wanted to let you know that I've posted a review of Kessler (Cliff Drive) at Discgolfcoursereview.com
You can read it at http://www.dgcoursereview.com/reviews.php?id=286&mode=rev
All my reviews are under the screen name "Olorin".

As soon as I can get the hole length for new #1 I'll also post files with more detailed review notes and my hole by hole ratings.

Thanks to all who were involved, especially Jack Lowe, in creating such a good course!

Is the new tee for hole 1 really 306 ft as playdg.com states?

Good job on the latest map.

Now if someone could change that map to reflect the new #1 tee location and the current #7 tee location across the street you'll be set.

(It's tough being a perfectionist.)

Cliff Drive / Map
« on: November 02, 2008, 08:18:53 AM »
Hi y'all.

When you get a chance would someone please update the Cliff Drive map on the KCFDC website? http://www.kcfdc.org/cliffdrive.html  I found the latest version of a map somewhere on one of these threads and that's an indispensable help for me to remember what holes I played.  It looks like the tee for 7 and the new tee for 1 need to be updated, though.

When I played the course in early Oct I only had the old hand drawn map http://kcfdc.org/images/CliffDriveMap.jpg that comes up when you click the map link.  So I started on 14 and had a very hard time figuring out where I was and finding the new front 9 holes.

This is just an idea that would really help us first time players at the course.

Thanks,
Lowe

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the info.

I wanted to get by DGW but I was on a really tight schedule and wanted to get in as many courses as possible.  I got 4 1/2 courses on this trip.  Hopefully I'll get there in the future since I go to KC every Fall now.

Cliff Drive / Tee for hole 1
« on: October 31, 2008, 10:53:23 PM »
I found 2 tee pads for hole 1.  One is a concrete pad (at one time it was hole 6 on the map I had) and it appears to be the pad marked on the current map I found her on another thread.  The other was a pair of flags shooting through the woods, that you see after hole 10.  The tee with flags is a bigger anhyzer.  This also seems to be the one in the picture on playdg.com.  http://www.playdg.com/courses/?s=MO&c=cliffdrive&h=1   I just want to make sure I've got it right, so would someone please confirm which is the standard hole 1 tee?

Cliff Drive / Cliff Drive Hole Lengths
« on: October 30, 2008, 05:22:15 PM »
Hi,

My name is Lowe (first name), and I'm from Raleigh NC.  I played Cliff Drive earlier in Oct, and I'm writing a review for dgcoursereview.com.  Does anyone have the hole lengths for the current layout?  I got a copy of the new map off another thread.  If you could post the hole lengths here, or even better, email them to me at playdiscgolf(at)gmail.com, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for all you guys do to make some great courses in KC!  I've now played almost all of them.

Take care,
Lowe
