Tournaments / Re: Ratings Based Tournaments

I used to be an avid runner in a time long forgotten as well, and I can totally relate to the beer gut......but I digress.....lol

I totally get that it's not going to change anytime soon, and that it's been so ingrained that it's all they/we care to know.  It really needs to be figured out how to get away from that, especially if they/we want to progress the game going forward.  The feeling of being *entitled*, (did I just say that?), to a payout for Am's has been getting a bit nuts.  I do like that, for example, the GBO has narrowed it down to how many they are going to "pay" this year, whereas in the past, the pay would go as far down as 15th?-20th?  That's just silly.

Don't get me wrong, not trying to be "that guy", and I don't see it changing anytime soon as well.  It seriously needs to be looked in to going forward though.  Especially when looking to make payouts better for the actual "Pro's".

Business model? Ok. I was just being real. Sorry it doesn't fit in to the "Paid Amateur" model people want. I'm an event planner. I would rather give back to every player with a massive event then give a few amateurs a payday. But what do I know?

Coming from a "ball golf" background, payouts to Amateur's are just silly IMHO.  Trophy's for the top spot, and maybe the top 3 depending on the Tier of the tournament is what I think.  You want a payout, move the heck up.  You typically get a schwag bag from beyond for showing up.  There shouldn't be a need to add to it with a payout on top of that.  Trophy only for Am's is the way it is there, and pretty much everything else you could/can compete in.  And yes, I play the Am side quite often.  If I win great, if I lose, go practice more.......I know this isn't going to be a popular post, but there, I said it.  Next.....  ;D

This is the first tournament i'll have played before and i had a question that i'm hoping someone can answer for me. My girlfriend was wanting to come out and watch the tourney but i didn't know if she did whether she could walk the courses with me or if she would have to be somewhere else as a spectator? Do alot of people come out just to watch these kinds of things?

She'll be able to walk with ya', unless things have drastically changed since I lived there.  It's basically a flex type start, if I remember right.  As far as watching these kinds of things, I guess that would depend on who's on the card...lol  ;D

I'm leaning towards playing just the Wide Open in 2016.  I DO get an extra week of vacation this next year, but, too many other tourneys/"things" I want to do as well, besides kill off 2 of those weeks back to back.  ;D

Just throwin' it out there......Since I/we'll be up in KC for this tomorrow in the first place, I'm willing to drop if someone just happens to have 2 Game 1 2 tickets handy, and depending on price.  8)

Cheapest upper level $167 per ticket
Skyrockets from there.

Yeah, I saw those, and it was similar on Tickets for Less as well.  I'm figuring I'll be playing.  Was just hoping for something happening from someone not able to go, etc... not that it would have been much cheaper, but, ya' never know.

General Banter / Re: Wichita Courses

Heading down to Wichita in the next few days.  What's the best course in that area?

OAK PARK HANDS DOWN!!! Right TALLGuy?  ;)

Btw, when's the Round Up? Rumor is Nov 7th. Can you confirm?

I wouldn't give it a "hands down" by any means, but, with the new MachX's, and new pin placements, it's a pretty sweet layout now.  Although, Herman Hills is a pretty sweet track as well.....in town.  The other courses I would hit up are in Derby @ Stone Creek park, and Camp Hawk in Newton.  Both of those are pretty sweet.  Camp Hawk is Smitty's baby, and it's a cool combo of woods..ish...golf, with some bomber holes.  There's some water on some of the holes as well.  Derby is a pretty sweet, well maintained 18 hole with some water on some holes.  Hole 9 is the only "huh?" hole, but besides that, good track as well.  Derby and Camp Hawk aren't that far from Wichita.  Probably a 30 minute drive overall, which should be nothing for a die-hard, disc golfin', Kansas Citian.

Hope that helps  8)

And, I believe that's correct.  Nov. 7th for the Round-Up.  Come on down!

I'm looking to play this, but, gotta get the "okeedoke" from the other half first.  ;D

I want to say that I had a great time, even though I was apparently sleep walking thru at least the first round (literally).  The second round, who the h&ll knows what I was doing.  Anyway, I digress.  Overall, it was the usual awesomeness that I've come to know from KC.  My only thing was that it felt like there was a round missing somewhere, even though my score wouldn't have mattered anyway.  I finally started playing respectable with 4 holes to go.  Whoda' thunk it.  I'm still digressing.....who cares.....it's my post!    ;D  :P

Oh yeah.....Not sure yet, as the jury is still out, but, I think there's a certain Steeler Doug, (not mentioning any names.....wait....), who's now got a bonifide mortal enemy in Bom Tutler....lol (dang...did it again....)  ::)  ;D

It's his Nemesis!  ;D
