Tournaments / Re: 2nd Annual S.E.K. Ice Bowl in Pittsburg KS...MORE INFO

Dan, I grew up in P-burg and still return there to visit family. I left there after school in '81. The course in Lincoln park is real short with tiny concrete tees. It's fun though, and afterwards you can hit 1106, or Chicken Marys, then drop into Mooremans for a brew.  8)

Tom is right on about this course.  But there will be a different layout as I bag up 4 holes in the middle of the course to lengthen the holes and spread it out and I also add 3 holes in front of the Lincoln Center and two holes more holes across the ditch from hole #2 and two holes behind the ball field.  Adds a different twist and turns a short 9 hole course (all holes below 300') to a course that has 5 holes 300 - 400' and 2 holes that are 450+' in length.  Total length of the 12 hole course is 3850'.  The layout also has some tough o.b. holes but I don't think it's in the best interest to enforce the o.b.  IT'S ALL ABOUT CHARITY...CORRECT?

I'm also working with a couple of businesses about providing lunch and drinks between rounds.  This info will be posted on our website if and when it happens.  See Ya!

I am trying to host a tournament in Pittsburg KS and the city is wanting to meet with me about insurance.  Does anyone have to pay the city an insurance fee to host a non-sanctioned tournament on a course in the Kansas City area?

Couldn't players enjoy an adult beverage after the tournament during an after tournament players party on site if need be and allowed by the PDGA?  If drinking while playing is so important then why don't those people just go to a bar instead then?  I vote to sanction!

Will there be any Friday night leagues going on this Friday (7/24) before the Worlds begin?  If so can you post the info because I may come to town Friday afternoon to play if there is one.  Thanks

Club Archives / course maps on PDGA website
« on: July 17, 2009, 09:06:52 AM »
I noticed the PDGA website had posted maps of the courses.  When I came across WYCO I thought you guys did a major overhaul of the course because none of it looked familiar.  I've only played it once but still couldn't figure out any of the course.  Is this the correct map posted because I noticed the same map is listed for Thornfield too?  Just F.Y.I. in case it's a mistake and you want to get it updated before the Worlds begin.  Thanks

Pack a lunch if you are gonna play blue valley. I would recommend playing WW.

You'll need to set up base camp near hole one at Blue Valley. Spend some days there acclimating to the altitude.  Then get up really early to make the arduous trek to camp 2 near the crest of hole 6.   Eat hardy, prep the oxygen tanks and rest well that night. Hike day two crosses a couple expansive valleys then requires a risky traverse before the final push to the top of the ridge line at hole 12's camp 3.  Blisters and full body aches will keep you tossing and turning that night.  So be prepared to make the final assault the next day without much sleep.  Before the sun rises, begin the push to the peak.  Even with oxygen tanks, the accent through the final holes will be a challenge to your very existence.    Upon reaching your goal, take in the view and relish in the joy of conquering BV, the moment is short lived, but will be remembered for a lifetime.

Back to reality.  It's just a disc golf course!

I heard it was looong but who da thunk!  Wow, and the TD of the Worlds expects us to do all that in one day...must be why that's the only course we play that day.  Luckly my new Palm Pre has GPS so the search party can find me...lol!

You could certainly WALK the courses, play one of them or at least a few holes on each of them.

From the looks of the schedule...there are 3 courses I have not played that are in my pool.  They are Shawnee Mission, Water Works and Blue Valley.  If I get a chance to play (or walk) on Monday or before, what courses would you recommend to be the most beneficial to play before the Worlds begin?  Thanks for any info you could share on this.

Also my son has a swim meet the weekend of July 25-26th.  So I will not be coming to town until Monday the 27th.  Will players still be allowed to practice on the courses on Monday or will the courses be shut down for final prep work?  If I can't practice then I thought I would volunteer to help with something when I show up.  Let me know.  Thanks

Monday is a practice day...there's nothing else going on that day, except for the player's meeting at 7PM at the Westin.  Courses will be setup in their Worlds configurations by July 21st.

Chap

Would needing a volunteer be more important?  Not like one practice round on a course I've never played is going to help my game any.  I can always bring my wii and play Tiger Woods 10 after the players meeting for practice...lol.
