while i also have my issues with some things the pdga does, in general, i support the structure they are giving the sport. i can't speak for other TD's in the area as to why they choose to sanction or not sanction (though i suspect most TD's have a strong stance either way). i personally like having the documented rules in place to lean on instead of using arbitrary rules that i must enforce on the players who are also my friends (i had to stroke jlowe last year
). i grew up an athlete and this sport fills that void for me. plus pdga events have the potential to draw more people from out of town.
just like last year, the ace fund will be 100% if it gets hit. if no ace is hit, we will do a short ctp for 50/50 with 1/2 going to the tree fund.
can't say for sure but i believe these events were unsanctioned in kc this year:
andy and deano's bday
twisted at old pike and ww
DUI
eastern front
SSR
ddkc traveling one days
LDO
RAC
club championships
hitting chains for BACA
Mo PR BlueBird Series
Afternoon d-lite
Ace race

Last yr was a shirt and a disc. don't quite have the players pack nailed down for this year yet. hopefully, i'll have that info out by next week. Its a lower entry fee than most pdga events for a reason, its more of an awareness raiser than a fundraiser. this tourney is not for the ams who want to take home a stash of plastic to sell on ebay. you want to make money move up. you want to play for a W, pride, bragging rights, Emporia Worlds points, PDGA ratings, and a trophy for a good cause, play whatever division you are eligible for. i was well over the pdga minimums last year for fundraisers on both the am and the pro side. the players pack value will be about the value of the entry minus trophy costs. pdga does not waive their fee without a 501c3. kcfdc was kind enough to waive their fee since it goes back to the course. the number of trophies will be based on the number of players in each division to preregister. i do trophy buzzes so that those who earn them, can do as they please, hang them or throw them or whatever. trying to be as player friendly as i can with a clear conscience.
