General Banter / Re: PDGA Summer Leagues...Say what??
« on: March 07, 2012, 09:02:53 PM »
If the KCFDC doesn't do one this year, hopefully we can get some good feedback from neighboring clubs as to the positive and negatives for the club and players.  I know tulsa is running one this year on monday nights.

General Banter / Re: 2012 Ace Race
« on: February 26, 2012, 07:53:56 PM »

Thanks again for being part of what we believe is the largest disc golf event in the history of the sport:

If you consider putt-putt part of the sport of Golf, then the ace race could be considered part of the sport of Disc Golf.

actually, it would more resemble the par 3 contest they have on wednesday before the masters, which I agree is borderline "golf".  in disc golf, where there is no safety issue present, clowns mouths, rope, paint, and mandos more resemble putt-putt.  ace race is like the ice bowl.  there are some quirks, yes, but a lot of people seem to have fun playing it.  i would say it definitely qualifies as an "event" as they said but not a sport.

sandy point is one of the coolest courses i've played tipped out.  with everything short it wasnt anything special.  there are enough mid-range holes with everything pushed back to need to move the longer holes short.  i wish they'd at least do 1/2 and 1/2 instead of all one way or the other.  sorry for the hijack

General Banter / Re: distracting music while throwing
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:05:29 PM »
i like the mixture.  playing with people with music (and dogs) helps me practice maintaining focus should there be a distraction during a pdga event.  playing with a more strict card and mind-set at leagues leading up to a tournament makes the tournament atmosphere less of a shock.  not being against either philosophy allows me to play with different mixtures of opinions at leagues instead of just people who share my ideals all the time.  i will say, the week leading up to a tournament to which i have to spend the extra money to travel to, i would side with danger.  being that i dont travel that much any more, i don't usually care.  just my .02

Swope / Re: full moon glow
« on: February 08, 2012, 10:57:12 AM »
I figured I could come up with a cool mil easier than anyone could hit the designated ace hole: 13, long tee to the longest basket. offer was good for february full moon glow only and CHRISTMAS MIRACLE! no one even came close.

give it time.  it will be possible the way innova keeps pumping out drivers that let beginners throw 500+ with no idea of how to control a disc.  why not 700+ or 800+ consistently for the top players?  shortening bv?  shorter pads at legacy?  no need.  soon enough, the discs will be too dangerous for public parks and will have to be on disc golf only, 100+ acre, pay to play facilities, just like ball golf.  its the only way the cities will be able to ensure that their patrons are safe and lower their liability and risk.  no foresight by the pdga in my opinion to keep approving these discs.  we will begin to see more courses get pulled because of it.

Planning for the 2012 Tree Love Classic is underway and we could use your help.  We need a mono-color logo that you think would look good on both discs and shirts.  we will be sticking with the color scheme of black/white on green or green on black/white.  please submit your preliminary ideas to ddn22568@gmail.com by the end of february.

thanks, drew

Cliff Drive / Better Google Maps
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:59:50 AM »
I noticed Google has updated their maps to a much higher resolution.  They are pretty recent too as you can see the new retaining wall on hole 7's pad and the new rock curbs along the drive.  also, you can almost read the graffiti in the reservoir.  just a few months ago, i was trying to update a map and you could barely make out where the tee pads were.  now, you can clearly see their shape as well as some of the baskets.   8)

Tournaments / Re: 30th KCWO Think Tank
« on: December 08, 2011, 10:14:49 PM »
Other concerns included the having PDGA tournament sight updated regularly and having clear lines of communication for out of town players. I’d love to see the club try to get more places to sleep for out of town Ams. Having food available between rounds or having a meal is something I have heard as well. People, like me, are also concerned about paying to be a PDGA member just to play a couple tourneys a year.  Clearly it is a personal choice, but it makes the WO cost 50 more, and for what?

although i personally choose to support the pdga, i understand the many reasons why some local ams don't.  i don't recall seeing an NT event paired with a B tier but i dont see why it couldn't be done.  then the locals who don't want to join can play for 10 extra bucks instead of 50.  this may increase the am turnout and in turn help the fund the pro side.  kudos to the new board for this brainstorm.
