USM / USM This Week
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:32:35 AM »
Anyone planning to make it to USM this week?

The USM crew is pondering a field trip today so we may be doing our weekly tomorrow instead. If that spoils your plans please let me know before we commit to the field trip. Our plans are entirely flexible. Next week the plan is to try out two new holes on campus and use some land we have not ventured into before.

Clover Dell Park / Clover Dell Park
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:56:52 PM »
Yes, there is a little nine-hole course in Clover Dell Park in Sedalia, MO. It has nine Mach IIIs with a tenth practice basket. There are twelve nice concrete tee boxes with an alternate on #1, #2 and #4. Alternate pin placements are being added slowly and there are nice tee signs on all nine holes at the original pad. The tee signs are already out of date though. Many more of the eastern red cedars will be removed, so if you think there are too many blind holes right at the moment, it will change.

We have also been given the green light to put nine more baskets on order and expand the course to go near the lake and around behind it with some longer more technical holes. Dick Parker has already been out to help me lay this expansion out and the parks director has seen our ideas and is working on making it happen. Here's a link to more info at Disc Golf Course Review.

If you are thinking about coming out to check it out and would like some company please let me know. If I am around I would love to come out and give you the grand tour and take your bag tag.

USM / USM Tomorrow
« on: June 21, 2011, 09:30:31 AM »
Instead of USM on Tuesday this week we will be throwing a quick round there tomorrow instead so that the usual USM crowd can go give the backward Wacky WyCo layout a try today while the paint is still there.

If you are interested in USM tomorrow let me know. Probably try to tee off early if possible.

Tournaments / Marshall Open - Saturday June 18th

Not many folks signed up yet but it should be fun. They have a pretty nice course in Marshall and it's only about an hour east of KC. Only thirty minutes north of me in Sedalia so I plan to attend. It is a C tier. I lost the flyer I had but I think it was $15 for rec and junior, $30 for Ams and $50 for Pros. But don't hold me to that.

Found and Lost / Lost - DD Tripod Chair
« on: June 13, 2011, 09:41:11 AM »
I left my double D tripod chair by #1 at Water Works yesterday while dealing with the player that broke his ankle and forgot all about it. It has KM #12037 along the edge of the seat in sharpie. If someone grabbed it I would love to have it back. I won that in Olathe last year and hadn't even had it a full season.

USM / USM Tuesday - 5/17 - End of School Year Disc Golf Celebration
« on: May 16, 2011, 02:35:32 PM »
We just had our graduation ceremony on campus over the weekend so the campus is looking great and now the students are all gone. To celebrate we will be hosting a round of disc golf followed by BBQ and beverages at the picnic area by #1. If you are interested in attending please let me know.

Bag tags will be in play and there is a nice prize as a bounty on setting a new course record. Doc has the course record at -4 and will be here to defend it. We will be teeing off no later than 6pm to give us daylight for getting our grub on afterward.

PM, email or phone call if you plan to be here so we can have enough to go around.

There is a disc golf course on campus:

http://www.stmary.edu/hr/Computer-Technician%20_0411.asp

If interested PM me so I know a DG'er is applying and follow the application instructions on the above link, or hit me with any questions you may have prior to applying.

The pay isn't great but the atmosphere is laid back and it's a great place to work. USM is only about 20 minutes north of WyCo disc golf course.

General Banter / Eagle Scout Promotes Disc Golf
« on: November 29, 2010, 09:31:35 AM »
My step-son achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was highlighted in this news article in Sedalia. A good portion of the article is devoted to disc golf as helping get the short course in Sedalia in the ground was his Eagle project. They even mention me -  ;D

http://www.sedaliademocrat.com/news/early-29207-scout-flying.html

Congratulations to Dalton. I couldn't be more proud of him!

There will likely be another article later about another scout, Kinser Hogan, that completed his project by doing work on the course here as well. Dalton assembled all of the baskets and installed them with his crew. Kinser and his crew removed trees, made three paths and installed tee signs and benches.

The parks department has stated that they will purchase another nine baskets to expand to an 18 hole course this spring. Anyone interested in helping me lay it out is welcome to give me a call or PM. The initial nine-hole layout is quite short and simple. There is a great area to add distance and complexity with the additional nine-holes and I want to make the most of it.

Found and Lost / In the drink at Young Park
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:28:48 PM »
I finally had a chance to throw in Blue Springs today and ended up with two in the pond. Just short of #7 is a DX Firebird, nearly new. In shallow water just short of #10 is a white DX Roc with an Ice Bowl stamp. Both should have KM #12037 in the rim. If anyone goes in after plastic I'd love to have them back.
