General Banter / Sedalia Disc Golf Course - Work Day
« on: August 25, 2010, 03:35:21 pm »
The short nine-holer in Sedalia is getting some finishing touches applied this Saturday, 8/28.

Work day - 9am start (although some will be there earlier to start drilling holes for tee signs and benches). It's an Eagle Scout project so anyone helping will get their hours counted toward his project. We'll be putting in formal tee signs and four benches primarily. I'd also like to remove more cedar trees and haul them off and if enough people show up install some of the alternate pin placements I have in mind. I have also been asked to mark the locations where nine nice trees they are purchasing need to be planted. I could sure use some help with that.

I have a couple of people that owe me a trip out to check it out, you know who you are...   ::)

If you are interested in coming out let me know. We now have twelve really nice tee boxes, nine original and three holes with longer alternates. Hopefully we'll get a few rounds in after the work is done.

I know the Day-Glow is happening so I don't expect anyone from KC but you never know...   8)

Old Pike / KCFDC Forum and Course Info
« on: August 17, 2010, 11:00:19 am »
Oh great...not even in the ground yet and being shoved into the "Other Courses" category!

Dcw  >:(

Well I mean really, put up or shut up, Sir! :D ;D :D

Its a simple matter of the courses that have contracts with the KCFDC will be listed in our forum.  Those that do not have contracts will be "other".  It makes absolute perfect sense.  You dont want the other title, then ensure that the city has a contract with the KCFDC in order to be considered a "club" course.

Glover, it will not be up to us to put in the course location and directions, that will be for the people that know the course to enter its information.  We are not a GPS company.

The idea is that we will provide a place for them to post this information though.

General Banter / Edwin - Found and registered

Register again if you see this post. I accidentally rejected your registration after seeing you were legit. I get so many spammers registering I am just used to hitting reject. Sorry.

General Banter / Wednesday at USM
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:48:36 pm »
Disc golf is alive and well in Leavenworth. New course record at USM. Doc Norby shot a 50 besting Tony Todd's 51. The course is playing better all the time. The next couple of weeks will be good at USM before students get back. Lemme know if you are interested in checking it out.

WYCO / WyCo League 7-9-2010
« on: July 08, 2010, 01:31:27 pm »
I have found myself able to make it to league at WyCo tomorrow evening for the first time all season. I think this is a reason to celebrate. I don't care what you think..... (unless you agree with me).

So, in honor of my visit, I will be providing a cooler of tasty ace (as in "I hope someone hits an ace tonight") beer and perhaps some light snacks.

Come on out and celebrate with me!  8)   I suspect we might even get a round of disc golf in.   :o

Found and Lost / Lost Keys at WyCo
« on: July 07, 2010, 08:55:20 am »
Threw all eighteen Tuesday evening at WyCo and lost my keys somewhere. A Ford key with two other keys on a ring with a PDGA 2010 Renewal tag on it. I put them in a pocket that had a hole in it so they could be anywhere out there.

General Banter / Course at JCCC
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:45:09 pm »

This O'Connor person says we're doing Worlds here again in a couple of years because it went over so well last year. Who has he been talking to or does he plan to run it himself? This article is a bit of a mess but it's cool that JCCC may be getting a course.

General Banter / Relay for Life Fund Raiser Tourney
« on: May 14, 2010, 09:53:37 pm »
We're having a fund raiser tourney on the new nine-hole recreational course at Clover Dell Park in Sedalia. Sunday May 23rd. Registration is at 11am. This is a fun doubles event for disc golfers of any experience level, even beginners. $20 entry fee gets you a disc and lunch. Prizes to the winners and trophies for CTP and distance competition. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

I realize this is on the same day as the Eastern Front in Blue Springs. I did not pick this date. Since we are an hour east of Blue Springs and this course isn't complete yet, not to mention it is a pitch and putt nine-hole course,  I really don't expect to draw anyone from KC.

However, if anyone on here is close to Sedalia and doesn't plan to play in Blue Springs feel free to join us. This is also a perfect course and tourney for a complete beginner in case anyone wants to wet their feet at a small fun event on a short course.

Disc Golf Topics for Women / Play Disc Golf Regardless of Gender!
« on: March 01, 2010, 06:19:27 pm »
This new section is designed to give women that play disc golf a place to discuss upcoming events, tourneys and whatever else comes to mind. Since women and men have separate divisions in most tourneys it seems only fitting to give women a separate area of the DISCboard too.

If anyone has ideas to make this section better feel free to comment. (like I needed to tell you that...   ::)  )

General Banter / Cans versus bottles
« on: February 17, 2010, 09:33:14 am »
Let's start a campaign to educate disc golfers about the benefits of drinking canned beer on the course. I know we all love the quality brews that come in bottles but the problem glass bottles present in our parks isn't worth it. Many high quality beers are now available in cans. So if you're like me and prefer a micro-brew or other high quality beer to the standard domestic fare found in cans seek it out, it is available. I have been buying Annie's Amber Ale from the High Noon Saloon and Brewery in Leavenworth lately. It's very tasty and comes in cans. They say it's from Cansas....  Also, Heineken is available in cans as well as aluminum bottles of Boulevard Wheat and I recently purchased a six-pack of 16oz cans of Red Stripe (Hooray Beer!).

If you know of a tasty brew others might like that is available in cans post it here. Of course the standard cans of Bud, Miller, etc... hit the spot on a hot day just as well, but for the more discriminating palate a list of more exotic canned beer might be just the thing to lessen the impact of bottles on our courses. Think about it and share your canned favorites below.....
