Swope / Re: SWOPE Changes DISCussion

Thanks for the thoughtful and informative read Nate. Well done!

I for one choose to see this as a positive all the way around. I foresee the core of the course, clubhouse and closely surrounding holes, remaining. With that will be new holes or even an additional course elsewhere in the park. Only time will tell at this point.

And while we're quoting brilliant minds of the past this one comes to mind: "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river, and he's not the same man." Heraclitus

"Frolf, like Disc Golf, is played among groups with a disc (originally a Frisbee disc).  That’s about where the similarities end.  Frolf, unlike Disc Golf, is a freeform amorphous ever changing game that can be played anywhere and everywhere in the world.

Frolf is not confined..."

This article here is pretty funny if I do say so myself...

Agreed, I like that the guy keeps calling it Frolf but points out that the preferred term is Disc Golf. He can call it what he wants since he freely admits how great that shot was and how it deserves the attention it's getting in the media. I've got a t-shirt I bought from Steady Ed himself that says "Frolf" on it in the fashion of a Ford logo. If Steady Ed can call it Frolf on occasion I'm willing to accept it. But yeah, the preferred term is Disc Golf.  8)

One worker driving silver dodge pickup said he knows Mike D.

I don't think we should hold that against him....

Are you suggesting a section of the forum set up specifically for photo sharing? That would be pretty easy to do. Either a separate section or if someone started a thread under Genral Banter it could be stickied to the top.

Been thinking maybe.......ugh.....Intermediate ....ugh but our ratings allow......and doing Sat/Sun, then skipping final 9 to play the Houck course....

Hmmm..... that's a thought for sure. If you decide to do this let me know and I will likely join you in Int and for the Houck course round on Sunday. I was planning on playing this until I saw the Friday rounds. hadn't thought about the C pool. Hell, I could play Rec for that matter....   ::)

What did you want to know about it?

http://www.pdga.com/tour/event/26332

I've been thinking about playing it. I understand they intend to use the new course, Harmony Bends (Strawn Park), this year. I drove by there just over a week ago though and they seem to have quite a bit of work yet to do. Only two pins were in so far I was told at the time. It looks to be a pretty nice course though. Might be a parking challenge however. I counted exactly 16 parking spaces and didn't see anywhere promising for additional parking, even temporary. I suspect they will have that covered somehow.

Here's more info from Disc Golf Scene: https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/32nd_Annual_Mid_America_Open_2016

Entry fees are pretty steep for a B tier if you ask me.

Check that....  I guess I won't be playing. They have changed it to a three day event with doubles on Thursday. I have work commitments that won't allow me to get away in time on Friday to get to the first round. They appear to be reaching for the big-time with it this year to introduce the new John Houck designed course. I'll have to play it some other time I guess. Bummer.....   :(

Found and Lost / Swope Lost and Found
« on: May 09, 2016, 10:30:14 am »
An abnormally high volume of lost and found gear came in after the Wide Open this year. Likely due to the confusion caused by all that rain. If you lost a stool, umbrella, towel or disc(s) or anything else, check there. I suspect it will be opened Tuesday and Patrick plans to be out there today.

Saw a Leopard in the lost and found box in the shack. Not sure if it's yours or not but there are a lot of lost and found items at the shack.

Or, there's a little ace fund league in Leavenworth at USM. 6pm tee. $1 for the ace fund is all.

April 5th was not quite as windy as the prior week but still quite breezy. Eight made it out and finished all 18.

Scores:

Tyler Forbes - 55
Anthony Todd - 55
Brandon Forbes - 57
Travis Daetwiler - 59
Steven 'doc' Norby - 60
Kevin Pike - 60
Kevin Montgomery - 63
Phillip Brice - ? (doc recalled all the scores but Phil's)

6pm start tonight!! Please be here by at least 5:45pm.

Ace fund now stands at exactly $156.

This evening should be much calmer but sunny and cool. We will be playing the newly modified layout again this evening.
#6/15 is being pulled and #9/18 is moving toward the woods and the original #9/18 is becoming #8/17 and moving south to get away from the baseball field parking area. After holing out on #5/#14 there is now a walk to original #7/16 which now becomes #6/15. This became necessary due to softball and baseball activity. Plans are int he works for even more changes to utilize some ground we have not used in the past.

A little behind on getting scores posted but better late than never. Here's March 29th:

Scores

Anthony Todd - 57 (need confirmation)
Brandon Forbes - 57
Travis Daetwiler - 59 (need confirmation)
Peter Tady- 59
Tyler Forbes - 60
Steven "doc" Norby - 62
Kevin Montgomery - 66
Tracy Walker - 68
Phillip Brice - 69
AJ Todd - DNF

It was very windy, which sort of explains some of the high scores. Did not get a scorecard for Tony, Travis and AJ so this is from memory. Ace fund is now over $150.
