General Banter / new courses in S Jackson county?

Wood-Z was far from an amateur player. He celebrated 30 years in disc golf at the last Redbud Open. He most recently played pro masters and his last rating with the PDGA was 939 as a pro. He's played extensively on many, many courses. Ted, on the other hand, had not played disc golf when he met Wood-Z.

Wood-Z had plenty of experience to draw from as a course designer and it showed.

On the campus of the University of Saint Mary. It's a private school so you need to let someone know you plan to come play it. Usually just a PM or e-mail to me will do it. But it's pretty accessible. Only three pins in the ground so far. Four more coming soon and then a fund raiser event is an idea I have to get the other two basket for a full nine hole course.

Much of the course is still in the planning stage before pins go in though.

Come on out to WyCo for this evenings league. The fairway on #7 should play a little easier without all the dead limbs that used to hang down. An impromptu workday on July 4th resulted in quite a pile of dead limbs cut down and hauled to the road. Hope to see you there.

Give me a time and I'll plan on giving you the tour and discussing potential layouts. Thanks. Anyone else interested in coming out to check it out that day is welcome. Just PM me or discuss it here.

I think the article you are referring to was written by Greg Hosfeld, but I agree too.

So how's about someone with more experience than me coming up to help me with the design at Saint Mary in Leavenworth?

I'm not sure why Bob thinks you're lazy but he does make some good points. I must say, having hiked around Monkey Mountain years ago that place would make a cool disc golf course. I think too many people use it for hiking and other things though. Disc golf courses tend to work best in parks that are previously under utilized. As Bob said, check with the powers that be and see if anything is in the works. If not, put the bug in their ear and contact the KCFDC.

Too much late night rambling with Chap. Afraid my only tee time today will be league this evening. I hope you enjoyed the BV monster. Maybe you can make it to Olathe for league this evening.

General Banter / $$$$$ ACE FUNDS $$$$$
« on: June 30, 2006, 03:42:53 pm »
So what you are saying, Jack, is that if I were to hit an ace while an active dues paid club member with more than thirty days until my dues expire, I wouldn't have my dues taken out of the ace fund automatically. But if I were about to expire or expired I would have the dues taken out automatically? Is that correct?

You'd think I would know this since I would have probably been the one to write this down in the minutes of the meeting this was decided at.

It will get as big as it gets. There is no precedent for other arrangements. You may recall Eric McCabe hitting an ace at the Thursday WW glow league last fall when the ace fund was over $1200. The $600+ he received for that certainly made his trip up worthwhile. Ace funds in KC have gotten over $1000 several times but that one was the highest I can think of.

Someone will hit one at WyCo one of these days. I know of three aces hit at other times so we all know it's possible. I've seen Tom Butler in and out on #5 and Doc skipped one off the basket there, both during league. Cecil Cameron has hit #8 and Pete Tady hit #6 short and a guy named Calvin hit #5 short all during casual play.

I can tell you who is seriously gunning for it at WyCo and that's Arturo. He's been there almost every week since early May and almost nailed #8 last week.

If a member or non-member hits an ace during a league and they paid into the ace fund that day they get 50% of the ace fund, including that evenings contribution. Whether the person is a member or non-member we will take $20 off the top for club dues. In other words, if you're a non-member and hit an ace, you're now a member. If you are a member and hit an ace you won't have to pay your dues for a while. We have some folks that will probably never have to pay dues again,
