WYCO / 5/26 League
« on: June 19, 2006, 03:09:19 PM »
Eleven for league the Friday before I left on vacation. That's why the delayed reaction. I guess I had other things on my mind.

Arturo Villareal - 54
Tony Dutiel - 59
Sean Elliot - 66
Matt Hays - 69
Jesse Wallace - 79

Steve 'Doc' Norby - 62
Jeff Hoglund - 62
Jake Carmack - 63
Kevin Montgomery - 67
Mike Coleman - 74
Mark Hogins - 75

I think the range of scores shows that if we could get consistent participation an amateur or intermediate card would work well competition-wise at WyCo. I apologize to all of those that end up mismatched in their division.

I think the Solstice is at Swope this year Kevin.

By golly, Chappy's post even said that didn't it. Last year it was at Rosie and it didn't register that they moved it. My bad....  I expect it will still be a good one to check out.

Not much info available on the Lawrence tourney just yet. It was originally going to be a KDGA Oz Tour event in Manhattan but they moved it to Lawrence. Here's a link to the thread about it at the KDGA website:

The Solstice Doubles at Rosedale will be a good one too. This is the second year for it and last year was a good time from what I heard. I was unable to make it last year but I hope to this year.

Nice article. Tim O'Neill sweeping the pads....  The KCFDC is getting some well deserved public credit for cleaning up yet another neglected KC park. What a great bunch of citizens...     8)

A big THANKS to Andy for running WyCo league on the 2nd while I was out of town.   :D

I'll be out there this Friday the 16th with a special edition league. I plan to clean up #4 in the woods and move the pin there.

Also, I'm going to move #14 to the original placement and we'll play #15 from below the pond to the short #14 pin. We'll be teeing from the grass but that tee was once part of the layout and I hope to pour a pad there sometime this year for an official alternate.

I'll have a choice CTP prize for the #15 alternate pin!!   8)

Bring it on out to WyCo this Friday for some challenging golf to kick off the weekend.

I didn't get to play last weekend because of the open...

You should have gone to play one of the other courses in town that weren't being used for the Wide Open. WyCo and Olathe were available all weekend. And Blue Valley was a festival atmosphere on Sunday with the junior nine hole course available to play all weekend as well. Hindsight being what it is however...  I hope you get plenty of disc golf in this week.

I'll be doing a special edition WyCo league Friday evening with some basket moves and a CTP prize.

Dan and Pete now have all of the lost and found from the weekend. Dan took home an assortment of discs and a couple of cameras. Pete had an assortment of discs and a pair of sunglasses at Rosedale on Sunday.

Beginners / question for a rookie....

One of the best players in town is ambidextrous. CD Steiner. He won the pro master division at the Wide Open this weekend. Being able to throw with either hand should be considered a great advantage I would think.

Of course it might help to be a little taller than him.....

I won't be running league tomorrow night as I am out of town. I didn't get a chance to arrange for someone to handle it for me. If someone can do this for the club that would be great. If not, whoever shows up can take it from there. Sorry.

Next week will be no league due to the Wide Open being in town. I plan to play the ice breaker doubles at BV with the Ams. Next league I will be running will be June 16th.

General Banter / What's Up With THe Shawnee Mission Park Course??

It's definitely a go still. The $ will be next year but this year is still a developmental year for the course. We will be playing another layout or two this year and be working on fairways and such. I expect Dirk will chime in with the straight poop eventually.

Blue Valley / Baskets to go back June 1 2006

The major standout to me was a distinct lack of trash cans of any sort. Near the shelter, pads, etc...  none.

Other than that the only thing I recall seeing that troubled me was trash all over near #3, all along the hillside down to the pond. It looked like it came from the shelter at the top of the hill. There had been a big picnic and the barrel was overflowing and blowing all over the place. That's pretty typical though.

Oh, and poison ivy... but that's always an issue.

We had a cali player with us. An hour longer does seem extreme though... Thanks for waiting...

That course is a bad mofo. But nevertheless, 13 players showed up for a marathon round of doubles in the wind.

Leo D/Arturo - 61
Jamie/Who Man - 62
Tony D/Eric M- 62
Quintin/Doc - 62
House/Tracy W - 69
Kevin/Jim S - 77
Mark/Cali Morales - 78

Lots of other players on the course taking advantage of the pins being back in. Get out and give it a whirl if you have a day to spend. The place is looking awesome. Huge kudos to everyone involved in getting this course in the ground. It's a work of art, from the tee signs and tee pads to the mind boggling design. The National Tour players are gonna love this.
