Yeah, I would have posted this earlier but I wasn't really sure of my plans until this week. If I don't get many folks down this weekend there will always be other times. Keept the second weekend in November in mind. That's an annual trip down for me.

This Saturday is a PDGA D tier event in Springfield, MO. For full details see the Ozarks Disc Golf website at http://www.ozarksdiscgolf.com/.

After the event I would like to invite KC Disc golfers to come hang out at Montgomery farm, my family's historic homestead, less than an hour from Springfield. Camping is available and I have baskets set up for play up near the house and on the back of the property (107 acres). I'll be there all weekend after the Sunburn Open and we will have professional quality fireworks both Saturday and Sunday nights. This is a family friendly place so bring the wife and kids. There is a spring fed stream that's fun for fishing or cooling off and a three acre lake on the property for fishing or even a canoe ride, we'll provide the canoe.

If you are interested in coming down please e-mail or call me for directions and to let me know your plans. kmontgomery@kc.rr.com or 816-830-0974.

Bring your friends. We need more am participation out at WyCo. We always have open and masters cards but rarely do we get even one card of ams. It only takes three.

WYCO / Kansas City Wide Open - Thanks

I'll let him know you said that....

He will play #1 and like it in the short middle placement because the two original placements are off limits until I can cut some length off the pole. It is a new basket and the pole wasn't cut down to fit our old style placements.

Obviously when playing casual you are welcome to play the holes at whatever par you feel comfortable with. The posted par for the course at the Wide Open layout, which was just changed, was a par 57. That was with #13, #14 and #17 set at par 4 and everything else at a par 3. With the current layout I would call it about the same, #13 is over 100' shorter but still mighty long so par 4 is okay there and league averages support that, #14 is an easier 3 but still difficult with the pond and blind corner to get around so leaving it at par 4 makes sense. I will know more when I start getting hole by hole averages in this position. As for #17 it is even longer so it stays par 4.

When playing casual, intermediate, novice, whatever, it is fine to expect a par 4 round but calling things a par 3 for consistency and ease of scoring is just a convenience. Just play and have fun. During a tourney or league par means a lot more than when you are sipping a cold one and enjoying the day with a friend. It becomes a personal issue at that point.

WYCO / Kansas City Wide Open - Thanks
« on: June 13, 2005, 05:13:34 PM »
A huge thanks to all the pros that came to town and played at WyCo during the KC Wide Open. I hope you all had a great time. We have been putting a lot of effort into WyCo over the last year in anticipation of the pros being out there and are really proud of how it has turned out. More improvements are in store for the WyCo course so look for more tourneys there in the fuure.

It was awesome to see the most famous faces in disc golf play on the course I call home and shread it. Ken Climo making the jump from the forth card to the lead card with a 7 stroke improvement on his second round was truly impressive. And seeing Chris Sprague shoot an incredible 50 and lock himself in the lead spot for the rest of the tourney was outstanding. I can't imagine shooting a 50 on the 8400'+ course with rope narrowed fairways. Great shooting Chris and congratulations on winning the 23rd annual Kansas City Wide Open.

For the scores for the Am KCWO that was held at Swope and Rosedale go here: http://www.pdga.com/schedule/event.php?TournID=4640

Whether you're a local player or just passing through town don't forget to get a round or two in at WyCo. We run league there every Friday evening with a 6:00pm tee off. Simply show up to play. It's an informal league run by the KCFDC and you're welcome to come and play.

I am keeping hole by hole stats all season starting with the KCWO layout. The layout is going to be changing this week though. It's been where it is for six weeks and it's time for a change. Look for #1 to go to long right at the request of Cecil Cameron and #14 will be going across the pond. I plan to move almost every pin that can move so look for a very different course by this Friday.

Finally, a very special thanks to Pat, Mike, Paul and all the guys on the mowers and trimmers of The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City Kansas Parks Department for all of their help in getting the course looking so nice. It played much better with all that rain thanks to their hard work and support. And no tournament would be possible without the people on the spot doing the important stuff. Major thanks to Tammie Morrison for handling the board and helping me keep my cool when things got weird, Sean Elliot did a great job of keeping things moving on #4 and to Dalton Morrison for spotting on #13 with my good friend Ed Gonzales. Thanks Ed! Also, having Jack out there as the PDGA Marshall with his handy little computer-like device made monitoring the weather a snap. Last but certainly not least, thanks to Master BBQ Chef Paul Eklund for the great eats!!

See you all at WyCo!!

General Banter / Any work on new course/s south and east KC MO area?

I heard talk of something in Blue Springs but that's all I can tell you. I don't know if it's going to happen, has happened or what. The Lee's Summit deal did fall through after it was approved and everything.
