USM / USM Disc Golf 2013
« on: April 03, 2013, 02:04:35 PM »
The first Tuesday round of the season took place last night. It was a pretty close game between Tony and Kevin for most of the round until the last few holes when the wheels came off for me with an ugly OB and a couple of bogies while Tony got the birdies. Adam and Rick kept it close the entire round until the winner between them was decided on the last hole.

Tony Todd - 53
Kevin Montgomery - 58
Rick Rose - 67 (3 Birdies on the night though)
Adam Richter - 68

Next Tuesday 5:30. In May we move to a 6pm tee. Bring your bag tags and join us.

General Banter / Re: Why did you join the KCFDC?
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:04:41 PM »
I joined way back when the club was first getting started because I had just discovered disc golf and dug the sh1t out of it. I still do and am still a member.  8)

When I joined there were people building steps from #9 down to #10 at Rosedale on their own time with their own money and materials and Rosedale was one of only two courses in the area. Now look at what we have. Thank you KCFDC and all of the members and hangers on that have done so much work for so long to make KC the disc golf mecca it is today.

The club is a living breathing organism that has changed in many ways over the years but the one thing that has held true is its commitment to the betterment of disc golf in the KC area and elsewhere around the country and even the world.

I took pictures. Someone with a keen eye take a look and post it up.

Duh...  I forgot about the pictures and I just looked at them yesterday.  ::)  You have a good closeup shot of #14. That is definitely a Mach III and those are the same plastic stanchions, mounts and flags we had at Clover Dell the first two seasons. They are from Direct Hit Golf Flags. I like their flags and replaced the wind-meter flag with there traditional numbered flag, but the stanchions don't hold up for long from what I experienced. If they are left in the weather continuously (and why wouldn't they be) they won't hold up very well. Then again, maybe they won't be subjected to the same level of wind as we have in Sedalia if they are tucked into the woods more.

Hesting mentioned something about that. They are the 6-12-18 MPH flags. I had no idea what that meant until he explained it to me. Very cool.

I installed these flags at Clover Dell initially. The flags themselves were nice and got a lot of positive feedback but they did not hold up well at all. They were in tatters in less than a year. Were these flags on plastic stanchions with plastic mounts? If they are, the plastic will deteriorate and they will start tilting to one side badly and popping off onto the ground and getting lost or destroyed within a year or two. What baskets are installed on this course? The plastic stanchion kits we installed were designed for the DGA Mach III but work on other baskets.

I switched the flags last season from these wind-meter flags to a standard flag with the hole number on it and replaced all the plastic stanchions with metal stanchions from the Cashens. So far they have held up much, much better.

One of the main problems I have with people climbing fences to get discs back is the damage it does to the fence. Chain link fences are designed to have people enter the area surrounded by the fence through a gate. The fence itself implies a level of security is desired to the area inside the fence, either you respect that or you don't. Therefore the fence isn't designed to have people climbing on it and when they do it bends to top-rail, stretches and warps the fence and can ultimately result in the fence needing to be replaced or repaired. We have this problem at Clover Dell in Sedalia. There is a small holding pond surrounded by a fence that can come into play on #6 and #9. When people have a disc that ends up in there they can walk around to the gate and enter to retrieve their disc, no one is stopping them. The fence is there to keep kids and others out of the nasty water but retrieving a disc is okay. But lazy ass people keep climbing the fence rather than walking a few steps and now the fence looks like crap and one of the top-rails has popped out on the end and I keep putting it back. Eventually the parks department will be talking to me about it and will want me to move the hole. It's a good hole and I don't want to do that but idiots that climb fences and leave their trash all over cause problems like this for all of us.

It's a matter of respect in my opinion. People that bypass the basic security measure implied by a fence, no matter how benign their reason, are no better than people that leave their trash and crap all over our parks or destroy park property.

Ill vouch for K Monts course! Its a tale of two 9's with short but disc hungry pines and plenty of water to add some pucker factor. The pond shot is reminiscent of PC with less chance for a bailout. I really enjoyed it!

Clover Dell Park / Course is in great shape!
« on: March 17, 2013, 01:10:07 PM »
Gave the course at Clover Dell a full 19 hole checkup Friday then went back for another crack at the front nine. The pond on #10 is full up making it a much more difficult hole than we saw at the Bluebird in September. And the pond on #14 is almost out of its banks. Now is an excellent time to throw in Sedalia. No tall rough and everything's brush-hogged. There's a new maintenance guy out there that I think will do a better job of keeping it mowed but just in case, now is a great time to get it before it gets woolly.

Here's a couple of shots of the ponds from Friday.

An Excerpt from the book:

"
Eddie Paris, one of their friends, was searching for his disc in the rough area with two other buddies, Mitt Franks and Max Ellyssen. Mitt and Max, while not exactly the most handsome men in the world, were known throughout the town for...

"

But don't take my word for it... You'll have to find out what happens yourself!

Very curious character names there Fritt Manks. good lordie..

I also noticed that the author went from Justin to Justice and back a couple of times with the other guy's name. I wonder if anyone proof read it before it got uploaded. Awful stuff. Do not buy it. Please, even as a novelty item, don't feed the monkees.   ::)

somalian drivers ed graduation party

Either that or Latino school of trash dumping graduation party. They dump the bags, and the raccoons and opossums rip them open so we can see the contents. Just about every trash bag I see dumped out there contains some combination of Spanish language newspapers, Jumex cans, corn husk wrappers, empty Jarrito's bottles, and Bimbo snack wrappers. Oh, can't forget the Our Lady of Guadalupe candle jars. Worst of all, I'm now a racist for pointing this out. %$#@! Thanks a lot, Latinos (or maybe Somalians)! >:(

Man I love them Jarrito's sodas. Especially the tamarind flavor.  8)
