We should have our hotel rates sheet by the end of next week so I can update you then.  The PDGA discount hotels are probably the safest bet though.

We'll definitely have some sort of events going on at the players party.  Blackthorn will be packed though, so no indoor putting contest.  We might just have to do an urban putting contest...  Blackthorn has several pinball machines and other arcade games along with a pool table so there will be plenty going on.

What do the KC guys and gals like to do for other players party events?

The 7th Annual 4SO presented by Mother's Brewery will be held September 29th & 30th in Joplin, MO. This year's tournament is a PDGA B-Tier event with $4,000 added cash to the Pro division's payout! We have partnered with both Mother's Brewery out of Springfield and Blackthorn Pizza and Pub in Joplin to make this year's event the best 4SO to date.

Please visit www.joplindgc.com/4SO for all the details. Pre-registration is highly recommended and is available at http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1333628261. This event is capped at 90 Pro/Advanced men & women and 90 Intermediate/Rec/Jr men & women.

The Friday doubles tourney will take place on September 28th with $500 added cash between the three divisions offered (Pro, Adv, & Rec). The flex start time is from 12-6 PM with unlimited rounds. Entry fees for the dubs is $20 per player for Pro and $10 per player for Adv or Rec.

Saturday will consist of two 18 hole rounds for all divisions on the permanent 27 hole McClelland Park course with an additional temp 9 added as usual. Sunday will be one round of either 18 or 27 for all divisions, depending on turnout, followed by a Final 9 for the Top 4 MPO players.

The FREE PLAYERS PARTY will be held Saturday night at Blackthorn Pizza & Pub in downtown Joplin with free Blackthorn Pizza and Hackett Hot Wings for all players, including all minors. Me Like Bees (www.facebook.com/melikebees) will be playing exclusively for our players party as well. The party should run sometime around 6-8 PM on Saturday night. Mother's will be on tap and discounted for purchase along with the usual Blackthorn assortment of refreshments.

The players pack for all Am players should consist of two discs, a dri-fit polo, and a JDGC sharpie. All JR and Rec divisions are TROPHY ONLY and will have a bonus CFR disc and $10 DGM voucher added to their players pack. All Pro players packs will consist of a CFR disc and a JDGC sharpie only.

Spread the word, pre-register, and get ready for the 2012 Four States Open presented by Mother's Brewery!!!

If anyone is looking for a disc golf weekend next weekend, the Joplin Disc Golf Club is having the April Two-Step next Friday, April 6th.  We'll be playing in Neosho first and then Joplin for the 2nd round.  This is a no frills added event so come get some ratings and play some low key disc golf at the same time.

On Saturday, there are two other area events, one in Fayetteville with the Razorback Classic and the other in Tulsa with the Tulsa Pro-Am.

Not having a RoF was completely my fault.  We got pinched for time after the longer 3rd round and the pro's were ready to roll for the Final 9 very shortly after the last scorecards were being turned in.  We should have had it after the Final 9 though, definite lesson learned here.

I also know we ordered at least a few 160's and light 170's in most all of the 10 models of discs we had to choose from for the two disc players pack.  I've still got a couple 160g Stalkers and 170g Forces left if you need to trade out something.

At a BIG event and if there are BIG pros there, I would rather play one less round and watch the pro's play their final round or final 9.  I was more than bummed at the 28th WO when we weren't going to get to watch the Pro's play at all after driving several hours to play in the tourney.  I also think there should be a clear divide between AM & Pro divisions with the # of rounds played, to provide more incentive to play up.  Don't try and man-up an AM format and then act all tough because you completed the 4th round better than lesser Am's.  That's just being silly, you're an AM, you ain't tough...

As for the players pack, I would think a minimum includes a disc and shirt or something along those lines.  If ya gotta skim from the entry fee to make that happen, that's cool.  But don't take $15 out of my entry fee for a disc that costs $6.  The prices of tourney stamped discs are available to everyone so that's just dumb and shady to me.  If you can do more in the players pack, great, but don't do it at the expense of an average payout.

As an out-of-towner (Joplin), the trophy only for Advanced kept me from playing in the 29th WO all-together.  I was skeptical I would get my moneys worth out of the players pack because of the 28th Wide Open, my first one ever, when I got an ABC putter as the disc and a heavy-weight dri-fit (both unusable items).  I did play in Worlds the year before though and I do understand the time and money contrstaints the 28th WO fell under the year after Worlds.  I'm not dogging anything, I'm just presenting the out-of-towner view as a 935ish rated Advanced player who would drop almost anything if there was a chance to go play several KC courses.

So for me to play, Advanced needs to have a nice payout and a non-crappy players pack.  (We do both in Joplin for our annual event, so I know taking care of the Pros AND Am's can be done.)

We installed all 28 Monkey Trap baskets yesterday at McClelland Park in Joplin.  The park is in terrific shape and the course looks great!

There's even word we may have the FPO division make this year...

Don't forget the players party is at the Holiday Inn and you get a $10 merch voucher for each night you stay in a Joplin hotel.

They're pretty close to being completed.  Some of the parts are already at the powder-coater and then it's just assembly and installation after that.  This week should give us a good indication of when they'll be done.

We've never had more than MPO and MPM fields before.  Last year with 8 in MPO and 6 in MPM we did a 75/25 split on the added cash.  We definitely favor a much, much larger % of the added cash going to MPO versus any other divisions.  Can't really tell you how it'll split out this year yet because we're trying to attract a larger # of pro's which may increase the # of divisions.

Final nine is continued stroke play to determine the 4SO winner in MPO only.  Last year Convers started the final nine in the lead, lost it to Russ Burns, but then retook it with a couple holes to play.

That's still the plan but boy we sure don't want to disappoint anyone if they're not.  They should be going in the ground in about 2-3 weeks but as of now, they are still our original baskets.

Of course the tourney is still going to be a lot of fun either way: Great payout, solid players pack, free food, players party, Final 9 for the top 4 Pro's, ect...

Sorry for the slow update but here's the latest:

Uriah has continued to make a good recovery back to health, but there are still some lingering issues with head trauma, such as migrane headaches. He's in good spirits and he's even been spotted at the disc golf course a few times now.
