General Banter / Re: Pay to play in KC
« on: July 05, 2013, 07:43:34 PM »
Perry, welcome back to the mecca of disc.
Looks like you opened a can of worms.
The good thing it is a small can.
We all have ownership of the game, although my play mostly sucks.
But after 32 years I'm still playing.
So I got that going for me.
PM me and I will show you Swope, the first pay to play course. It is not now, but the guy back then  had a dream.

Jeez people. Really?

General Banter / Re: Swope 'Folf' Course
« on: July 01, 2013, 11:17:34 AM »
I started there summer of 1981.
Tom Ingle sitting at the picnic table for 2 years until he built the wood shed Pro Shop
I think he charged a dollar per round.  For $100 you could play unlimited for a year.
He called it Folf because Steady Ed Headrick (who started DGA) wanted royalties for using
the "Disc Golf" name.
Thus the one and only Folf course in the world.
The course was an early conception on the now Swope Park Disc Golf Course.
Hole 1 teeepad was what is now hole 9 teepad. The pin was down on the flat area before
OB gully.
Current Hole 13 was added after the big zoo renovation. The area was a staging area for construction. Dan Cashen terraformed with the bunker hills.

Arturo's english is not al.ways that good.
He said it was 'sleazy"

Get the Gold layout at the Fortress map box, back 9 has changed to humiliate the innocent.

Be aware, be very aware.
There are pocket sized map layouts at the Fortress in the map dispenser.
The back nine plays a little different than previous years.

General Banter / Re: What putter do you throw, and why?

Although I don't have one right now, try the Blowfly. It is is extremenely soft, to the point you can bend it in half, it floats, it is stable. Makes a decent 75' and in approach. Great for rustic courses (Rosy DU, Cliff) as it absorbs the shock (most of the time) and tends to NOT roll away.

Probably the same dude who thought broken bathroom tiles would look nice next to the clubhouse.
Yeah, what an idiot.
What a concept. Somebody trying to make the course better so the fine disc golf population wont have to get their shoes muddy. Probably the same fool that empties the trash, picks up smokers cigbutts, glass and countless pieces of debris.
I hope he is not the nut that tries to help novices and families by supplying maps and quick instructional, that would be a waste of time, trying to help others enjoy the game without
intimidation from the course layout and  seasoned players. What a goof. if i ever catch the 'dude'
I will give him (or her) a good spanking.

New course in Nevada Mo 1-1/2 hour from mid KC
7  south, Highland exit, go west, will take you straight to Marmaduke Park, 2 entrances,
course in the middle.
9 hole DGA, pins set in concrete, no lock sleeve
4x8 concrete pads (seem small by KC standards)
plays like mini Swope, Mature trees, all mowed
Good warmup on the way to Joplin

Generally the Swope maintenance crew will take care of it, as long as they know about it.
I am going out today, will check.

Luckily, we have no baskets stolen at Swope.
Sometimes the locals will use them as  BBQ grills.
After 32 years we get a little respect.
So regarding any disc thrown in a lake.
Don't throw it in there.  It is the Indian, not the arrow. It is fair game after that.
Name calling is not warranted for the poor schmuck that would go in there to get it.

i really don't understand what you are moaning about.
Wait, wait. Took off march 4 after 24"of snow
by the time I got to Florida, it was sunny and 70.
Now back in St. Louis, more snow coming and you are getting dumped on just about now.
STL is soon after. Went to Crystal City Underground but Adult Easter Egg Hunt negated my efforts.
What is up with that?  Tomorrow, cavebound disc, assuming I can get to it.
Somebody send me a shovel.

It was not so much the gloves as it was a documentation filing error on his DNA.
Note to self: Keep track of your stuff.

Waiting on March, one month off, many courses to see.
