Swope / Re: wear and tear
« on: January 21, 2011, 06:22:15 PM »
From Timko:   I've called Jim multiple times to have him change the locks, but he hasn't responded.  As far as I know, the P&R don't have keys to our baskets at Swope.

From Mr. James: Hmmmmmm, called me, not really. Besides, I am not the lock master or have inclination to move baskets. Last thread was cut the lock on 8, (which is the only one that does have a different lock, that I know of) per Mr Timko. So I did not respond. My main focus for Swope is trash management, and that has many issues itself.
Maurice Richard Gleauzinier is right. (Man that was hard to say, gulp) Especially pack bottles in & out.
Lee, call or PM me offline and I will see where I can help you. I plan on going out tomorrow afternoon.

As long as the dumped trash is close to the road or parking lot, the parks dept. should pick it up. At Cliff, we just drag the trash out of the ravines and up to the road. P&R usually picks it up within a day or two.

At Swope all on course trashcans are the responsibility of the club even if near the road as in 2 and 4.
I try to get there when I can, but non players fill them constantly. I recommend taking them out as there are plenty of trash containers on the rest of the course.

General Banter / Re: Top Ten Favorite Course in Kansas City - version 2010
« on: September 28, 2010, 09:57:57 PM »
The reality of this situation is that we have many awesome courses. I am going to try Old Pike tomorrow.
IMHO The parameters should be set for: in no particular order:
Car and persons accessible (as in parking, finding the layout logical without a map,  first assessment for the novice player, cleanliness, amenities)
Variety of skill of play, reconfiguration of course
Quality of baskets. teepads, signage
Maintenance of the course
Safety
Non homie attitude

OK I lied, I'm a homie
Swope meets these criteria,
If you haven't played lately, it is sweet.

Swope / Re: Swope league 8-3 tonight, recently mowed
« on: August 04, 2010, 11:26:42 AM »

I"m sure you can mow it in a day. They used to do it with an army large tractor PTO mowers at 30 miles an hour with unskilled drivers. The results were gouged fairways, debarked trees, chewed up fallen limbs, topped off high points, chewed up trash, and very little weed eating.

Now the P&R is on a 3 week schedule, barring rain and 3 days to dry out. They now trim before mowing, use smaller agile tractors with skilled workers, and pick up most of the trash before. Realize the mowers from Swope run all of south KCMO parks, and Swope is the 2nd largest city park in the nation, NY central park is first.

No they aren't perfect, but it is far better than in previous years. Any complaints should go through the course CC. They do not allow the public to mow due to obvious reasons. Doing so unauthorized could potentially close the course.

Enjoy the fact that they do mow the whole course, did recent plantings, were awesome in getting ready for the Worlds and have pride in this plot of land.

Swope, civilized disc golf.

Swope / Flag stealers
« on: July 25, 2010, 10:18:38 PM »
Just replaced 11 and saw 12 is gone. Sometimes cutting the flags or bending the flag post until it breaks.
Jeez dudes. I'll get you a set of faded flags.
This is getting out of hand. Special favors for any information.
We are not the police, but destruction of public property is a felony.

Murder is in the eye of the beholder.
Crush and drop the cans. Aluminum is made from bauxite. Only one place produces it. Jamaica. Go figger.
Pack your bottles out.
Trees and smoke gets in your eyes.
I'm wearin' my wellies tonight!
The world is an oyster, but at Swope the frogs rule on 13.

Thanx Spencer

Swope / Re: Want to Play Swope Gold before it's torn down?
« on: June 21, 2010, 06:39:41 PM »
I took the rope and flags from the main course except for 6. Also gold is still there past the house.
I did put 4 & 8 baskets back. 5 is still in the same position. So except for the 1 gold temp basket it should be playable.
I will leave it alone until further notice from Further.

Wayne confirmed it will be mowed next Monday, so it is thick now and will get a little thicker. Good for the bees.
Flags were stolen (ie cut off) holes 9 and 16.

To the folks who have too many trees in their way....
No law says you have to hit them, someday they won't be there.
Just sayin..... I can hardly wait, I may do the same.

I have seen too many lost wood souls in 30 years.
Still smoking with hickory from Swope.

My real name is James William Michael Neal, also known as Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo, Slim (B4 Belcher), Mr James,
Hyme (German derivation), Diego (Spanish derivation), Stupid (wife derivation).

I like long walks in the mud, the smell of burning discs on my dashboard on a hot day, removing dead animals
for inhumane purposes and going commando.

Am seeking other that appreciates the bald side of trees, helping novices, and must like dogs.

Wait a minute, this isn't Craigslist men for women/men/other?
Wow, I wonder what I just posted there?
