Correction:
Swope was not mowed, just packed down from the rain and traffic, and the Swope Renewal Tourney.
They are on a three week mowing schedule, I doubt that they do it this week. Last mow was on 4/15. I will check with them today.

Weather looks good for the Corp Challenge. Possible FridaY TStorms.

The leg holder thing was designed by (I think) John Molanario, who may still live near Gregory and Oak.
Lately I have seen some 'posers' with hiking shorts with expanded pockets to hold probably 4 discs.

Slims mantra:
Remember to put your real name and current phone # if you want a very slim chance of ever getting an errant orb back into the fold.
Club, organization numbers, nicknames, personal logos and markings that are only understandable to you are not a prerequisite for a exhaustive attempt by many to get your $10 disc back.

Slims philosophy:
It's OK to love your disk, just don't marry it. They always leave you. Unless you hang them on a wall.
(This works on so many levels)

Slims really sick:
I still think about a 176 Blue Roc I carried for 15 years, lost in 6" snow at Rosy topside a few years back.
I don't remember the other 6 discs I lost that day. I do know that after 5 holes, it was really time to quit.

The Lesson:
Don't quit until you are out of discs.

Lake Gravel is now being covered in dirt, they appear to be halfway through, stalled out in the winter.
I suspect they are getting it ready for Starlight/Zoo parking overflow. Just a guess.

I too have had at least 2 bags stolen in my 30 year effort to attempt to qualify as an example to this sport.
SlimNeal Caveat

Don't marry your discs as they will always leave you.

Lock them up, nail them to a wall, make a artistic mobile.
That way you can enjoy them forever.

Hmmmmmmmm, maybe its time to make this venue a real "invitational".
Lord knows I wouldn't be invited, that would be fine. With all the courses in the metro there is ample opportunity to have a fine disc golf outing without the burden of tournament conditions.
Dick is one of the best proponents of the local disc scene and should receive a hearty handshake as well as a kiss on the cheek. Here, here.

General Banter / Re: Hanging baskets-- not allowed in PDGA events?
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:14:27 PM »
Awhile back, a Major at Ft Leavenworth put in 9 homemade baskets, all hanging, on Fort grounds.
The high command did not want permanent hole placements so they allowed for hangers.
It was an interesting arrangement, but it doubled the trouble on windy days. Also maintenance was an issue
as well, as the birds thought they were handy nesting places. Read that "birds" not "birdies"

Regarding Ottowa
Yes I have, damn Rotarians.
The name is Kanza Park just north, of 15th street off 59 highway/main street. Look for the sign on the west side, parking on the right. First hole right by the parking lot, going north
I'm sure they meant well. KCFDC old timer Mark Martin told me he designed the course. I can't imagine why they didn't take his suggestions.
To the uninitiated, the "teepads" are about a 3' long triangle pointing to the basket, unmarked, and pretty much not visible from the preceding basket, especially in high grass.
The course layout is OK, but lies in a creekbed that also acts as flood control, so be aware if you visit after a local downpour.
The park is nice and has many amenities, walk/bike paved trail, kids areas, water, parking and diligent federales, (just sayin' see thread, alcohol/bottles). The park itself acts as a central recreational conduit from downtown almost to I-35, so the park is long and skinny. The walk/bike trail advocates seem to understand the disc golf influence and will stop and watch as you may cross paths. Or maybe its fear for their own protection. Wow it just hit me, Thats why they wear helmets, even the walkers. There is local college population that plays.

Swope / Re: Stiles is the man!
« on: February 17, 2010, 11:24:58 PM »
Mark let the cat be mine (see deadcat blues pic). Good thing it was frozen although it did have a glint in its eye.
Last year was dessicated dead dog blues, raccoon with distemper, 2 burnt cars, rock crashing alkies, wild man full of gibberish at a tournament (nonplayer, although sometimes hard to tell the difference), crack dealers on 4 wheelers, shaggin wagons, trash and brush dumpers, wild dogs,  really crappy restrooms, 2 acres of salt burned grass, and the occassional disc golfer that did not understand I was there for the betterment of the sport and their welfare. Note to self: stop dressing up as the mounted police.
Mr Stiles has always been there, and hopefully always will. Thanks Mark.
Barring all that, all in all, Swope is still the most civilized place to play.

General Banter / Re: Cans versus bottles
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:45:15 PM »
That is a great policy for the park in Smithville Dan. That should be the policy at all the public parks.

No alcohol and bottles is the policy for most any park in the US. The issue is the local man/woman power to enforce it.
I have been on many courses in many other cities and usually check with a local player. Cans are usually tolerated, but you should keep them contained in your bag, but technically even that is in violation. A cooler is a dead giveaway and could lead to inspection, confiscation, fines or arrest.

Most local enforcement is fairly tolerant as they see the disc golf community help drive out the undesirable.
Some are more bored and feel warranted to enforce, i.e Shawnee Mission Park

Be not paranoid, but be aware.

PS: Yes we should can CD, he has a full body with a hint of frothiness. But then again, nobody would buy him.
