Winter Leagues / Prairie Center Saturday league

Only a few weeks left for Saturday league.  Ace fund should be near $500, let's see somebody hit one before Monday night league starts up again.  Attendance has been down a little lately, only 4-11 players, let's see some more people show this Saturday 3/11.  By the way, have you heard about the new course going in Lenexa?  Should be in the ground by Fall THIS YEAR.  I'll be finding out a lot more about it this Sunday.  Later-Bob Hayett

General Banter / New course going in Lenexa

Any rumors you may have heard about a brand new course in Lenexa ARE TRUE.  I talked with the man in charge of coordinating the new park, and it's a done deal.  He hopes to have it in the ground THIS SUMMER!!!  I'm going to meet with him very soon and discuss preliminary plans and take a visit out to the park site.  He doesn't want anybody going out there  to look around without being accompanied by Lenexa Parks and Rec personnel since it's still under construction and not opened to the public yet.  They have earmarked plenty of funds and want to make it a world class disc golf course.  After the club members come up with a course design they are going to have a pro disc golf course designer come in and give a final tweaking/approval (don't know who that is yet).  A few years ago I got a letter at my house telling me that a new park was being planned for an area just west of 83rd street and Quivira.  The letter invited me (a nearby resident) to go to a town planning meeting to present any ideas I might have.  Jake Carmack and myself went to the meeting and saw this great big map of a different park that was even better suited for a disc golf course.  We made a presentation and struck a good repore with a few of the heads of Lenexa Parks and Rec, long story short a few years later we're getting a new course in Lenexa.  I'll try and keep everyone posted to what's happening.  This is a really good day for disc golf in the Kansas CIty metro area.

Prairie Center / Lots of new players on the course

Today was a beautiful day (Sunday 3/5) and there were lots of new people out on the course.  I was moving pins and was happy to see all the new faces out there.  If you happen to be out at Prairie Center and see someone you don't recognize, tell them about the club and about the leagues we have.  A lot of people don't even know there is a club.  With all these new players out at the courses around town we should be able to recruit many new members to the club.  It might just be a matter of mentioning it to them and carrying some membership applications with you.  Later-Your course coordinator Bob Hayett

I have volunteered to run a doubles league.  We talked possibly about starting it at 10:00 on Saturdays.  I would prefer switching courses from week to week.  As far as the format I haven't got that ironed out.

Prairie Center / Future pin placements and new tee boxes desired for '06

This is your course coordinator Bob Hayett.  We made a lot of changes (hopefully for the better and safer) recently.  I would like to see continued progress this year.  I'm planning an additional 12 pin placements throughout the course, and I hope we will have an additional seven new tee box locations as well.  Some of these changes should be accomplished by Olathe Parks and Rec, but most will be done by the club (KCFDC).  I would also love to see new tee signs (I prefer ones with diagrams as opposed to actual photos of the holes) that we can put right on the existing tee markers out there.  I'll be contacting the arborist soon to see if they have any extra trees they can plant since a good number of diseased pine trees had to be removed.  The Saturday league is still happening with anywhere from four to eleven players, as well as the Monday night glow league.  Before the recent cold snap there were a lot of new faces out at the course.  I'm hoping we can get some of them to play in the leagues and also join the club.  If you happen to see them tell them about the leagues and club.  Most of them don't even know the KCFDC exists.  Always remember, clear any work you'd like to do out there with me first. Prairie Center / More changes at Prairie Center

With the good weather the last few weekends there's been a large turnout of players at Prairie Center.  Most of the players really like the new holes.  This year I hope to make some more changes, mainly some new teepads and pin placements on most holes.  I hope Olathe parks and rec can help us with some of the erosion around some of the teepads, as well as plant grass on some of the bare fairways (especially on number 2 fairway).  We still have Saturday morning league at 11:00 and Tom Butler is running a glow league Monday evenings at 6:00.  If you have never played glow you should get out and try it, it's a blast.  I hope to see more of you at the course.  Later-Bob Hayett

Just a reminder that every Saturday at 11:00 we have our Winter league at Prairie Center (usually random doubles).  A few weeks back Bryan Guthrie and Brad Merys shot a sizzling 41.  Come out and check out the new holes 12-16 (which are not totally complete yet but open for play).  Later-Bob Hayett

Prairie Center / new holes #12-16

Everyone seems to really like the new holes.  Eventually on number 12 we will be throwing to the old number 15 long pin placements through a narrow ten foot opening in the trees.  On number 13 we will have a pin deep left and another straight out.  Also parks and rec is planting a few trees just to the right so I'll have a harder time pulling a bad shot towards the soccer stands.  On number 14 I'm putting a pin deep left down by the lake.  On number 15 parks and rec has already scraped out where a long tee pad is going in.  Also the 15 fairway eventually will be ALL the way up to that row of big trees WAY UP the hill where I will put another pin placement (could end up being a par 4).  I hope to install a long tee on 16 way back and next to the fence.  It'll make that hole look awesome.  Occasionally we will play 16 to the old long 12 pin placement.  Also we put in a long number 2 pad.  I hope to put in a long number 9 tee pad and another pin placement for 9, as well as a few other pins on some other holes.  If you have any other cool ideas for new pads or pin placements, let me know.  I had a number of other people out to look at holes 12-16 to contribute ideas and I think it worked out great.  Come on out to Saturday morning league (we usually play doubles) at 11:00 and Monday evening there's a glow league that starts just after 6:00 hosted by Tom Butler.

Prairie Center / possible new locations for holes 12-16

I was walking around this past Saturday and saw a new way to organize holes 12-16. I am meeting the head of Olathe Parks and Rec next week to go over this idea, and if he approves the design, we could be playing these holes the opposite way we play them now.  Hopefully this will be approved and we can proceed with the new design.  I'll keep everyone posted on it.  This coming Monday is the last league and then the following Saturday morning at 11:00 we start Winter league.  Come on out and have a great time.  Later-Bob Hayett

Prairie Center / start time for league Monday at Prairie Center

Just a reminder that start time for league Monday October 3 is 5:30 p.m.  Also I am meeting with Olathe Park & Rec Monday to start serious planning for moving hole no. 12 and also moving the tee pad for hole no.15.  I also have other ideas to improve the course which I hope to see some progress this Fall and Spring '06.  Also when the clock moves back an hour we will start league Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.  We usually play doubles, however we may play other games (wolf,skins,etc.) at times.  Later-Bob Hayett
