Prairie Center / poison ivy
« on: June 03, 2006, 11:27:35 AM »
I met with Parks & Rec worker out at Prairie Center the other day.  There's a bumper crop of poison ivy, especially around number 16.  For those who are allergic cover your skin or keep your shots in the fairway.  We're going to be putting in a bumper crop of pin placements over the next month also.  Later-Bob Hayett

General Banter / Lake Lenexa progress report
« on: May 21, 2006, 12:31:21 AM »
Dirk Hacker and I met with the park administrator today at Lake Lenexa and we showed him approximately where a course might go in.  I think he was very excited about the possible layout.  Within a few weeks we are going to put in a preliminary design with stakes.  We will cut a walking path in the wooded holes about where fairways may go in.  There's going to be some very fun holes to play when it's all done.  Probably the first year or two there will not be cement tees for the fact that a lot of the paths, parking lots, shelters, etc. will not go in the ground until after the disc golf course is installed.  In other words, expect the course (and entire park) to be a work in progress for some time to come.  We were shown areas that I did not know were available to us which will enhance the layout and make the course longer than I thought possible.  This could end up being a very fine course someday!  Later-Bob Hayett

Prairie Center / oops

The new pin we installed on Number 16 apparently is too close to the soccer field and must be removed.  It was nice while it lasted.

Prairie Center / new pin placements coming soon
« on: May 10, 2006, 10:12:41 PM »
Look out for new pin placements on holes number 9, 13, and 16.  Also in the future look for new tee pad locations on holes number 8, 9, 16 and 15.  New pin placements will be happening on number 10, 11, 8, 14 and 12 (deep left) and maybe later this year we can get new tee signs as well.  Later- Your course coordinator Bob Hayett

General Banter / park plan disc golf course
« on: April 20, 2006, 12:05:06 AM »
The Lake Lenexa park plan certainly does not show the exact location of the future disc golf course, just an approximate location.  I anticipate the final course design to utilize the open field in the middle of the park, as well as a few holes just to the west of the main lake largest cove.  There could possibly be one or two tee shots over water, as well as many holes in the trees.  The elevation changes, a few longer open holes, and some very tight, technical wooded holes should make this a very fun, challenging and scenic course.  Lenexa Parks and Rec has plenty of money for the course.  Expect excellent tee pads, tee signs, the best baskets, benches, etc. to be utilized.  They want to make this a truly outstanding course, one that hopefully will attract experienced players and beginners alike.  We should be presenting a preliminary design within the next few weeks.   I'm looking forward to the next course in Johnson County.  Who knows, after this is in the ground, maybe other municipalities in Johnson County (Overland Park, Leawood, etc.) may contact us to put other courses in.

I'm seeing all kinds of new faces at Prairie Center.  If you see new people, tell them about the KCFDC.  Tell them about the great tournaments coming up, especially the Wide Open.  Tell them about the leagues we have.  Hand out membership applications, if you don't have them call or visit disc golf world to get them.  Hand them out like candy.  We need new members, especially the younger players I'm seeing out there.   A lot of them don't even know there is a club.  The KCFDC in my opinion should have 500 members, not 200.  Look at all the great courses we have in town.  Who is chiefly responsible for these courses? The KCFDC.  Tell these new players this.  Tell them their membership helps us improve the courses.  Tell them the more members there are, the more volunteers there are, the more we can do to improve the courses.  Visit a busy course on a weekend and hand out applications, even an hour every month or every other month.  Later-Bob Hayett

General Banter / Lake Lenexa progress report
« on: March 30, 2006, 10:17:14 PM »
Dirk Hacker has come up with several interesting designs for courses.  We still have to check certain areas of the park to see where the property lines are and if there's enough land available for us around the dam.  There's a lot of construction going on in the park, so it's not a good idea to visit the park during the week (evenings and weekends are OK).  I believe we're going to end up with a short but challenging course with lots of wooded holes (like Rosedale Down Under) with lots of elevation changes.  Some of the sight lines are going to be wonderful.  The course should be in the ground by the end of the Summer.  We'll keep you informed of any further progress.
